It's the talking and the way it comes across as sounding rap that turns me off. Maybe the studio version will give me a different feel.

Thought the live performance vocals were absolutely horrid.

I thought Carrie and Miranda killed it on stage. It was a bit tough to hear the lyrics on some of the lower notes, but overall I thought it was fantastic, and I can't wait to hear the entire studio version. Based on the 90-second preview, the studio version sounds more twangy to me.

You can buy the song on iTunes now. I too prefer the studio version, but I did enjoy the performance.

Where will it debut on the Country Airplay and Country Songs chart? Would a Top 20 debut on both be a good guess depending if it gets to radio tomorrow morning?

Well I think the studio version will be much better (haven't heard it yet) than the live performance which I didn't dislike but had a problem hearing what they were singing due in largely I think to the type of song it was. I kind of got a "Last Name" on steroids type vibe from it which I wouldn't mind since I enjoyed "Last Name".
No doubt this will do quite well and Miranda's album will be without question one of the most anticipated in this genre the past couple years.

While I didn't love the live performance, I didn't dislike it as much as many others did too. I thought it was pretty good, except that the verses were too low and the song loses its energy there. Overall though, it was a fun, rocking live performance. I think reactions usually tend to be more negative though, whenever a song is debuted live, as opposed to releasing a studio version first.
I heard the preview clip of the studio version, haven't heard the full one yet. Definitely much better. The verses are still low (especially for Carrie's voice), but at least they sound much better and clearer here.
I can't wait to see this song fly up the charts - country radio needs to make up for having made us suffer through so many bro-country songs!

The studio version is epic. I still can't figure out the disconnect between the studio version and live performance. But the studio version doesn't disappoint. Maybe it was the sound and lack of hearing lyrics? Whatever the case, I'm happy and relieved the studio version is as good as it is.

Where will it debut on the Country Airplay and Country Songs chart? Would a Top 20 debut on both be a good guess depending if it gets to radio tomorrow morning? I don't think it will debut on Country Airplay tomorrow yet. I suppose it could but I don't think it will. The week after, it almost certainly will, but I don't think it's going to rise to the top 20 so quickly. I've said it in a few recent posts--I'm picturing a climb more like that of "Highway Don't Care" or "Remind Me". Both songs spent several weeks outside the Billboard top 30, because they hadn't been officially sent to radio, so essentially the airplay was unsolicited. "Remind Me" wasn't officially sent out until after Brad's previous single "Old Alabama" had peaked, and "Highway Don't Care" wasn't officially sent out until after Tim's previous single "One Of Those Nights" had peaked. Both new duets were getting a good amount of airplay but the labels hadn't officially started to promote them yet. And that's what I envision happening here. I'm sure radio stations will get a copy of the studio version and play it early, but I don't foresee RCA Nashville officially sending the song to radio until the release of Platinum or perhaps a week later, thus ensuing that "Automatic" can still keep climbing for at least a few more weeks. So on radio, a top 20 debut is highly unlikely, unless they pull "Automatic" and send "Somethin' Bad" for immediate adds, but again, I just don't think that's likely (and even then, a top 20 debut would be tough to come by). Hot Country Songs is another matter entirely though...the sales alone will get this well up that chart (possibly top 20 there?), then it will fall for a few weeks, and then start rising again as airplay + sales start to grow again. But I don't follow the HCS chart and I can't even remember what their tracking week is (radio's tracking week is Monday thru Sunday, but for some reason I seem to recall the HCS tracking week to be different).

The studio version is awesome. I love this, and can't wait for it to smash. My only issue is that it ends too abruptly/awkwardly, but I still love it. *I honestly don't understand the criticism for this. People on Facebook are complaining left and right that it's "not Country" and they were screaming, and the song is 'something bad...' yet these are probably many of the people supporting Luke/Blake/FGL and congratulating them on their "well-deserved" awards. It's not a lyrical masterpiece, but good Lord if a male artist sang this (*insert name here*) and was between two superstar guys, the females would be drooling all over it and wouldn't give a f**k if it was Country, or if the guys sounded like s*hit. I have no problem with differences of opinion, but damn, no wonder it's so hard for females in this business. With a response like that, who needs enemies? The double standard is just f**king insane.

With a response like that, who needs enemies? Seriously... why they gotta be so mean? Personally, I liked "Automatic" a lot better than this song, but that's just me. Also, I still really wish Carrie released "Do You Think About Me" as a single.

This isn't the instant earworm I was hoping for; I'm a little disappointed. I thought the performance tonight was great fun even though the sound was iffy so it was hard to understand the lyrics. But this isn't exactly living up to the hype for me. I'm really hoping it grows on me a lot, but right now I'm not really feeling the production during the "oh-oh" parts of the song and Carrie doesn't sound all that great on this during the lines where she sings over harmonizes with Miranda (particularly the way she ends her lines with laughin' and clappin). It's also rather short. During their solo parts they sound fantastic though and the melody is pretty enjoyable, particularly during those verses.

I actually quite like this. Song really reminds me of Joan Jett from back in the 80's. I could do without the background vocals personally, but it doesn't ruin the song for me. Should be a big smash and an album seller for Miranda.

^ The production is over the top to me, but this certainly fits in the "this song is cool as hell" category. Not too much to the lyrics but has a great overall feel and I think Miranda and Carrie's vocals were great for the kind of tempo this song has. Between this and "Automatic" I'm definitely making plans on yet another album purchase this year (Eric, Jon, Sara, EYB being the others).

Should be a big smash and an album seller for Miranda. Joan Jett came to mind immediately for me as well. I agree with everything you say here, with the exception of the background vocals part...I love them! :) This isn't the instant earworm I was hoping for; I'm a little disappointed. It's also rather short. During their solo parts they sound fantastic though and the melody is pretty enjoyable, particularly during those verses. I didn't really have any expectations for this and I totally love it. It's probably already in my top 2-3 favorite singles from both ladies. I think the "oh-ohs" sound awesome and I'm actually quite shocked how well their voices go together. The lines that end with laughin' and clappin' are actually some of my favorite parts of the song! I love how Carrie trails both of those words slightly longer and higher, and overall I love her higher vocals just as much as I love Miranda's lower vocals there. This gets a definite 5 stars from me. It might not be the most ground-breaking song in the world but it's a really fun boot-stompin' song and I love the swagger, sass, and energy that radiates from both ladies' vocal performances.

STUDIO VERSION!!! Better listen, I expect Youtube to remove this soon!!! Thanks! I really like the studio version! Although this was highly anticipated by many, I actually didn't expect much from the duet because I generally am not fond of Miranda's voice. So this is a GOOD surprise for me!

I'm seriously lovin' it and I'm happy about that. I was really excited about this duet but was getting myself ready to not be disappointed because I had been before with "Can't Stop Loving You" with Aerosmith and "Is It Still Over" with Randy Travis. This one is fun, rocking, and just sassy kickass. I've been playing the studio version on loop.
Already #4 on iTunes country and #39 over-all.

My only complaint is the ending, I wanted some back and forth wailing.

Heard the clip this morning and loved it. Didn't like the performance on the Billboards tonight, got concerned for the studio version. Relieved that the studio version is fantastic. This single will be big. My only complaint is the ending, I wanted some back and forth wailing. Same. It just ends. Kind of anticlimactic.

Same. It just ends. Kind of anticlimactic. I think they did it that way on purpose to make it sound mysterious/eerie, but it just feels like an odd ending. To me it seems fitting to end the song with a bang, "Got a real good feeling somethin' bad about to happen!" *boom*

Maybe the *boom* will have a better effect on me if they blow up a car or something in the video. Speaking of which, I'm thoroughly expecting a Thelma & Louise-type video since that's basically what inspires this whole song.

Luckily I spend more time thinking of what songs are QUALITY rather than over-analyzing the 'its country' or 'its not country'. Miranda and Carrie have delivered and I look forward to hearing this on the radio as a relief among the clutter of horrid Luke/FGL/Blake songs. Hopefully Miranda smacks her husband into shape for his next album so we can forget the BOATS album atrocity ever happened ;)

This is great recorded. Has it been serviced to country yet? Have they taken it upon themselves to begin spinning this, what's up?

From just a few hours last night:
M. LAMBERT & C. UNDERWOOD – Somethin’ Bad: 0.108
As mentioned above, radio stations can spin it if they want to (unsolicited airplay) but the label will probably officially release it to radio after "Automatic" peaks.
By the way, SB is now #3 on iTunes on the all-genre chart so it'll definitely chart on HCS.

Yes, listened to this three times already, with the live performance my first, and with each listen it has grown on me. The studio version is really great. Much better than the live, but then that could be because it's the first performance and they were figuring out how to work it out, they will undoubtedly sing it again. Mark my words this will grow on people everywhere when they hear the studio version. Gonna be HUGE! Multi-week #1, Multi-platinum sales?
