But in Kenny's case not every single song was the same style. FGL have gone 5/5, in my opinion, with singles being the same style. There needs to be some mix up. Once every few singles they could revisit this frat style every now and then, but it gets old quick, is not good for country's music and wouldn't hurt if they did put more meaning into their music. I truly wouldn't mind this style of music if it wasn't released on nearly every single by male artists, but was used more sparingly along with all other types of country.

^ I don't think "Stay" was the same style or theme. I thought it had some meaning and I also thought Black Tears was a good song even though they didn't end up putting it on their debut Album.

You're comparing artists who are at very different stages in their careers. FGL have 5 singles released compared to Kenny who has close to 50. You can't compare these two because the sample size for FGL is just too low. Now, if after album two you feel the same way, you may have a point.

^I didn't bring Kenny up I was just saying through his career he didn't stick to the same formula like I feel FGL has, so far I must stress. I hope if nothing else with these guys that they don't stick to the same formula and "Dirt" will be a point where they mix things up, because sticking to the types of songs they have released will shorten their shelf life.

FGL has had ONE album. You could say that about almost every artist after their first album.

Even with other artists on their first album to me it doesn't seem they really released the same sounding song 5 times over. Even on a first album there has to or at these should be variety.

Florida Georgia Line may very well become Country's "Nickelback" in the sense that they're popular through a major hit song and then basically have the same songs over and over again but manage to hold enough fans to keep releasing them. Or, they evolve (however slightly) and still have a few hits or they reinvent themselves and lose all their fans (but maybe win critical acclaim) or they reinvent and keep their fans. We won't really know for a few years about what happens to them.

Hope this song is as good as they say, these guys need to ditch the frat crap they call music. So they need to ditch what has made them famous? That seems like a dumb thing to do when they spent years trying to become what they now are. They spent years trying to become this kind of act? I think that's the saddest thing I've ever heard.

I think that's the saddest thing I've ever heard. Why is it sad? They worked hard and found a sound that millions of people love. There are countless acts in many different genres who's music I am not a fan of. But if any of these acts work their ass off and find something that they love doing and their fans love there is NOTHING sad about it.

That's some vivid imagery right there! As you say, these things are subjective. Which means I can hold my own opinion and, by the rules of this board, am free to express it.

I don't think anyone is saying your opinion is wrong or you can't say you don't like them. But do you really think artists who work hard, break through and become successful are "sad" because it's not your style? I can totally understand your point of not liking them. I can not understand at all you calling it sad only because you think their music is not good.

But snark is my life. ;) Actually, I edited that post a couple of times to tone it down. If you had seen what I WANTED to say, you'd think what I actually did say was pretty mild. (And compared to lots of things that get said about their music around here -- including in this very thread -- I think it's even milder.)

This hits radio Tuesday morning, July 8, at 6am ET. Sounds like it could be a big Clear Channel debut... According to AllAccess the official adds date is July 14.

This ad definitely leaves me interested about what Florida Georgia Line is going to do next. From the images, it looks like the song will touch on childhood, love, growing up, settling down, and possibly death. I'm thinking it will show the role dirt plays in one's life, from playing in the dirt as a child to ending up in dirt when one dies. Even though I haven't enjoyed any of their previous singles, I'm actually pretty excited for this.

I've had the privliege of hearing a snippet of this song and I think people are going to be pleasantly surprised with this. The production is similar to their first album but the lyrics in this song are more in depth then most of the songs on their previous album.

Based on the image, I do believe it will be lyrically similar to Brody's "Dirt".

Hmm, pretty excited to hear this, actually. That ad is definitely making me curious, and I agree on the implications of the ad wrt theme.
People who have heard the song, is it a midtempo, ballad ... ?

I hope it has really good subject matter so people can finally stop complaining about these guys. I'm expecting this song to debut really strong on iTunes, probably top 10 all genre. They're on a roll lately, and this song is coming out at a good time for them.

It's mid tempo more laid back then others from their debut album.

Too many songs out there with word "Dirt," in them :/
It seems like everything they do is successful despite the theme of the songs as well as the abrasive vocals. It goes to show you that whoever is listening to them doesn't care that the vocals and production isn't perfect.

People who have heard the song, is it a midtempo, ballad ... ? I just recently heard the songwriter demo on this. It was in the voice of one of the songwriters so I don't know how it will sound with Tyler Hubbard's vocals. It is a mid-tempo and reminds me more of the Jason Aldean Mid-tempo songs. That said, I really liked the song.

The FGL boys got their eyes on a Grammy or Song of the Year nomination/win. "Dirt" could be the one that elevates them to that level. We shall see.
