great song even better video! got a little tearie eyed at the end cuz it reminded me of my grandma that I lost last month. I cried during the video. It was like watching my grandparent's love story. Also, seriously hoping we'll hear much more of Brian's singing on the new album.

Count me in the crowd of people who say this song doesn't do much for me.

Definitely their best song. People who say they're too bro country and can't get into this might as well just ignore anything else they put out because this is one extreme to the next. It reminds me of older Montgomery Gentry. Another #1 hit for the boys for sure.

I won't admit much negativity towards this song, but I definitely do hate how popular they are. The fact that they're #1 on iTunes appalls me quite a bit.

I like this and the video was good. The only other song I really liked from them was Round Here. I'm actually glad a song that's more identifiable as a country song is topping the overall iTunes charts.

It's definitely different from their others songs and I think this is the best single they released yet. I didn't like it the first time I listened but after few more listens, it's more tolerable. Tyler's voice is irritating most especially in the chorus. Good song tho. Can't wait to watch them perform this live.

What rapper will Florida Georgia Line choose to do the remix?

Is this immediately going for adds? I think it went for adds immediately after its release this morning. Does anyone know how it's doing on the country MB right now on the tracking chart? I know it's #1 on iTunes.

I know it's #1 on iTunes. We won't know MB until tomorrow morning. Kris, it had a Clear Channel every-hour-on-the-hour deal this morning, and as it is one of the most anticipated releases this year, I am sure most CBS stations jumped on board as well. I expect we'll see stations add at or near 100 next Monday.

The official impact date is actually July 14th, but that date doesn't mean much since radio started playing this today when it was first delivered to them by Republic Nashville.

Wow, wouldn't it be fantastic to hear this song sung by someone who can actually sing? "Fingernails on chalkboard" Yep yep. Every once in awhile I get it wrong on first impression, but I think I'll be changing the station when this comes on. Once again, FGL fails to impress me (I'm still trying to like something by them but it's so hard.)

Of course I managed to catch this today.
Very underwhelming, IMO. On the plus side-lyrics and production aren't bro-country, but on the negative side they are nothing special, the melody is mundane.
I don't mind the vocals on the few upbeat songs of theirs that I like, but this song shows how he's not an especially good singer-and I don't enjoy the tone of his voice.
But I'm sure it will be all over the radio.

Ehh. I expected more from them. I absolutely hate how the chorus just abruptly ends with "Dirt"..just annoying to me. lol.

Seeing quite a few one-liners in here...let's try to limit those, please.
As for "Dirt"...I also am quite underwhelmed. I like where the writers were trying to go with this, but ultimately it falls just a little flat for me, mostly because of how the lyrics are phrased during the chorus. We've got a list element progression that in itself isn't too bad (the mentions of red rust clay, the plowed-up ground that the father worked hard on, post-game party field, mud that you get stuck in, etc) but the last 2 lines of the chorus come across quite awkwardly. I mean, I get that "Dirt" is the whole theme of the song and the word "dirt" is repeated in the background on multiple occasions, but when it comes to the chorus, it's a pretty weak hook.
Overall, though, I like the specific references in the lyrics enough that I can forgive the somewhat weak hook. The production isn't too bad but it's not too memorable either, and once again we have an overcooked chorus.
My biggest gripe--and this hasn't changed from song to song for the duo--is Tyler's vocals. Obviously FGL has many fans so clearly there are people who either at least tolerate his voice or actually enjoy it, but I am not among them. Tyler is one of my least favorite vocalists, plain and simple. I do like Brian's voice in the 2nd verse quite a lot, even if he does sound a bit sleepy when his part finally arrives. Like others have said, I wish Brian could sing lead on more of their material.
So overall I am underwhelmed with this but I appreciate what the writers were going for here...I think it just falls a bit short, mainly due to the weak hook at the end of the chorus (a list of a bunch of specific details about dirt, and then "makes you wanna build a 10-percent-down white picket fence house on this dirt" BAM, end of chorus).
All that said, this will obviously be a big hit for them and I wouldn't be surprised to see it streak to #1 in as little as 12-14 chart weeks. They could release anything right now and it would hit big, but still, I hope that the success of this one will persuade FGL to continue to select or write songs with a bit more lyrical depth to them, in addition to songs that cover more ground (no pun intended) topically.

Seriously, why doesn't Brian (short hair) sing more often? He sounds really great singing the second verse. This song isn't terrible, but I don't think it's a masterpiece by any means. I'd say that "Dirt" is certainly much better than "Get Your Shine On" or "This Is How We Roll" though. I'd love to hear how this would sound with Brian singing lead vocals for the whole song...

^^^Brian's fingernails-on-the-chalkboard voice are also the #1 reason why I can't stand Gary Levox of Rascal Flatts, even though tons of guests on Lon helton's show have insisted over the years that the other two members are very good singers; the lyrics and story/message are both fine with me, but a standout vocalist such as Trace Adkins or Chris Young would do wonders for this song while substantially raising my opinion of it at once.
That certainly goes for the previously mentioned Montgomery Gentry, whose mesmerizing 'Lucky Man' was downright extraordinary, and another superb yet criminally underappreciated vocalist who would take this song to even greater heights IMHO would undoubtedly have to be Henry Paul of Blackhawk, whose pristine vocals on 'Postmarked Birmingham' are downright wonderful, and that song would certainly have suffered with an inferior vocalist just as 'Dirt' does.
This is indeed their best single to date FWIW, and the now-in-progress race to #1 between this and 'Roller Coaster' will be fun to watch over the next three months.

He sounds smooth -- and it can make for a nice break from Tyler's insistent voice -- but it's nowhere near memorable enough. It's a solid, but flavorless, forgettable voice in a genre that is overrun with male singers. Of course Hubbard's voice can get annoying, but his voice IS Florida Georgia Line. It is recognizable and has a presence. BK's voice is only recognizable insofar as you know it's not Hubbard's, so that's actually more of a compliment to the latter than it is the former. If you're not familiar, listen to his verse on "Tip it Back." It's technically fine, but it does nothing to stand out.

Holy Auto Tune Batman! As many have already said, I found this to be a step up from their previous material, but to be honest a cover of "Me & My Gang" would have been a huge improvement. Decent lyrics, great video and listening through my crappy laptop speakers , I didn't even think it was over produced as some have pointed out. But man , oh man .... if they are burying their vocals underneath that much auto tune what exactly are they hiding? And while the short haired guy seems to have a better voice , its so heavily processed I'm nervous to throw to much praise his way either.
Edited after a second listen: I'm from the South , and I'm proud of my accent & twang but Hubbards over accented twang comes off extremely inflated to me. To the point that I actually find it more annoying then his lack of vocal talents. Nicolas Cage had a more believable southern accent in Con Air..... and well , Nicolas Cage was just terrible in that movie.

The lyrics are awful, too. Human do not come from dirt. Humans come from other humans. I graduated high school 2 years ago, so maybe they are teaching something new in schools now? I'm sure there are numerous ways to explain this, but it could be a reading of Ecclesiastes 3:20. While most translations of that passage use the term "dust," it is often used synonymously with dirt.

I am disappointed that they changed their sound and it looks like "fun country" is dying down. I do not like this song at all. It's such a change of sound from their debut album is feels like they are selling out to their critics. The lyrics are awful, too. Human do not come from dirt. Humans come from other humans. I graduated high school 2 years ago, so maybe they are teaching something new in schools now? Country was always fun. It depends on your definition!

I can't stand Trace Adkins and Josh Turner's low voices and Chris Young's voice sounds like a goat having sex about half the time to me - so to each his own. Tyler has a uniquely identifiable voice and he is from Alabama / Georgia border - so his accent is not fake. Like I've said previously on here - there are those that will never like any song these guys put out. The download #'s and tickets sales tell the truth - these guys are wildly popular. Period.

I don't understand why you're so concerned whether some people here like these guys/their music or not. I don't think there's anyone here who would deny their popularity--we're all aware that they sell a lot of singles/albums and concert tickets, but that doesn't mean that we all have to like them. If everybody liked/disliked all the same artists, things would be pretty boring. Sometimes good music gets heard, sometimes it doesn't. And just because a song is selling well doesn't necessarily mean it's good, or if a song is selling poorly it doesn't necessarily mean it's a bad song. It's all subjective.

This song is #4 on Airchrck already. That's just rediculous. It may be one day but it's rediculous.
