LOVE this song, too! Classic Keith song! My only issue is in the chorus when he sings the lyrics so fast I have to read the liner notes to totally understand the words....lol. Not sure if anyone else has trouble hearing all the lyrics or if it's just me. However, this song is definitely a #1 in my book! You're not alone, it took me several listens to catch exactly what he said in the "fingertips slide up and down my back" part especially. Still not certain I have it right lol.

Colt Ford perplexes me. Most of the hooks that he gets other artists to sing on are really good and catchy and make me want to listen, but then there's the rest of song. Like this song. And "Driving Around Song" and there's a few others just like this. Does he write his own stuff? Does he write the hooks?

And "Driving Around Song" and there's a few others just like this. Does he write his own stuff? Does he write the hooks? Colt co-writes most of his material. Oftentimes he simply brings in other popular artists to sing the chorus. For example, here's the writing credits for his previous album: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Declaration_of_Independence_(album)Many of his co-writers write big hits for/with the big stars. Chris Tompkins, Craig Wiseman, Jeffrey Steele, Ben Hayslip, etc. "She's Like" isn't too bad...it's certainly catchy and I actually don't mind Colt's style (although I am glad it's not super popular on the radio). The lyrics aren't the best, though--lists of cliches and weak metaphors strung together. It's a nice feel-good song though, and Keith sounds good. And as I said Colt's style doesn't really bother me so I don't mind the verses either. It's just the lyrics that I take issue with. Back to "Somewhere In My Car", it is easily my favorite single from Fuse. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't nervous about how it'll do at radio, though, mainly because "Cop Car" peaked lower than Keith has in almost 15 years. It's just harder for the later releases from an album to do well if the preceding single squandered some momentum. But with that said, this is a really good song and I think it could sell fairly well also, so hopefully radio jumps on it even if it needs 20-25 weeks to go top 5 (hopefully #1).

Here is the lyric video for the song. It is the radio edit.

I'm a fan of this new intro myself and I think it's a good radio edit. I was worried about it because I enjoyed the song before, but it was a good idea IMO. This song is easily one of my favorite Keith releases, though the production on the chorus can muck up the melody a bit but it's not too big of a problem. I love the inflection that Keith uses in his vocal when he sings "raining hard".

What's an update on this song? It ends up having a solid bullet of 252 this week and with Blake going recurrent, it should move from #43 to #38 on MB. It's Billboard position will likely be between the #36-#38 range come tomorrow evening as well.

I know I've mentioned I liked this song when it came out, but this sounds excellent on the radio driving. I love the radio edit and for once and am happy they decided to do one. I love Keith's vocals when he sings the lyric "And it's raining hard on the streetlight glow". The chorus is still a little cluttered and overdone, no doubt, but I've looked past that. Easily my favorite of Keith's since "Long Hot Summer", and before that probably "Til Summer Comes Around".
It's starting to pick up more steam on the singles charts as well with a 327 spin increase on the MB rolling chart. It's been moving bit slower than most Keith singles, but the performance of "Cop Car" along with the heavy competition when this song was released was why. Luckily it's finally getting it's wheels going and hopefully this can get him back to the top.

Yeah this song has really grown on me. I loved "Cop Car", and I thought "We Were Us" was an instant classic, but this one is slowly catching up to their status for me. Keith is one of the most consistent artists in Country music. He hasn't put out one single I have not enjoyed. I would love to see this one go #1, or at least chart well enough so we can (fingers crossed) get "Raise 'Em Up" released.

I still don't understand why COP CAR didn't get to the very top! I really loved the song and still do. Some people didn't understand CC or at least some of them comments I read sounded that way.
SIMC is a great song and Keith's vocals are very good!
That would be great for him to release RAISE EM UP....another great song, IMO.

Do we know if this will be getting a music video? The song seems like one that would lend itself to a very good music video. I do think have one released for "Cop Car" and this song also having the theme of a car, may work against it as both could end up with similar looks and storylines.

I do think have one released for "Cop Car" and this song also having the theme of a car, may work against it as both could end up with similar looks and storylines. The only real similarity I see is both have the word "Car" in the title. In "Cop Car" it was a song about someone who fell in love after getting in trouble trespassing and being in the back of a cop car. "Somewhere In My Car" is a song about a lost love and being reminded about how great his memories where with her in his car, and how he wishes he could get her back but knows it's never going to happen. I think there's definitely a way to make a great music video here without it looking anything like "Cop Car". That being said, I don't know if we'll get one or not. Keith usually does them though. "You Gonna Fly" was the last one in late 2011/early 2012 that didn't get one.Edit: Check that - "You Gonna Fly" got a live music video. So that means the last time Keith didn't have one at all was "I'm In" (#2) in the summer of 2010, over four years ago. Stupid live videos.

I loved Cop Car when I first bought the album but after hear it on the radio all the time it reallyburned out on me. I was hesitant when I first heard this was the song they were going to go with but you know it's growing on me. I do like the radio edit I think it sounds very nice and keeps the song from feeling repetative musically.

Little Bit Of Everything was and it hit #1. 2. Cop Car was not a duet with Miranda Lambert. We Were Us was a #1. 3. Sam Hunt started to complain that Keith Urban recorded one of his songs. I think the publicity may have hurt Cop Car's chances of hitting the top. It peaked at #8 on the Airplay chart, becoming Urban's lowest charted top ten hit.

Yeah, I heard that Sam Hunt was not liking that Keith sang his song. Don't understand that. Sam Hunt has impressed a lot of people, but I don't care for him and the way he acted about Keith. Sounded like a spoiled child and someone else playing with his toy even though it was out there with nobody playing with it!

When an artist with the towering stature of Keith Urban, who enjoys universal respect and acclaim on this board as well as up & down Music Row records a song of yours, the best advice is to close your mouth, appreciate the attention you're getting, and enjoy cashing your royalty checks for the rest of your life.
Badmouthing that same artist is one way to smear your own reputation and cut your own throat before your fledgling career is out of first gear---what a knucklehead!!!!
Whatever the reason for 'Cop Car' not going any higher on the charts than it did, rest assured that a ton of substantially lousier tunes will finish higher on the year-end charts, since there's no doubt that 'Cop Car' is one of the year's very best singles, and yet another standout track from one of the format's top ten artists of the past decade, whose 'Better Life' was the hottest country song on the planet exactly a decade ago, and still ranks among the very biggest country singles of the past decade.
As Pacino and/or DeNiro might say, 'You got a problem wid dat????'

"Cop Car" is one of my favorite songs on Country Radio in the past few years. Had no idea it only peaked at #8...

That would be great for him to release RAISE EM UP....another great song, IMO. My problem with that one is that Eric Church seemed barely noticeable on it. He sang an entire verse, and I could only barely tell it wasn't K.U. How is this possible? Also, what bothers me about the radio edit of both this and "I'm In" is the removal of the instrumental lead, so that both songs have a cold open instead. I thought radio hated cold opens?

I'm not an Eric Church fan but it's really obvious to me when he's singing and not Keith. They don't sound similar at all or anything. 2) I don't like that either. The instrumental intro on this song is like literally the best part (for me).

I don't know what it was, but when I first heard Raise 'Em Up, I literally couldn't tell where Keith ended and Eric began somehow. Maybe I should listen to it again.

It was easy to tell when Eric started for me, I just couldn't decipher when Keith started back and whether him and Eric were trading lines. Normally, they sound nothing alike, on "Raise Em Up", they sound very similar imo.

I can easily tell them apart...Keith's voice is smoother and clearer than Eric's, imo.

You aren't the only one! I'm a big Keith and Eric fan and that was the first thing I said when I listened to this song....who is singing what? I think it is because Eric is making an attempt to sing 'smoother' with less twang because of the nature of this song. The song is one of my favorites on the album and I hope it becomes a single. Great lyrics and sound.

A great gain for this one on tonight's BB chart--up 3.2 million! It looks like Keith can pass Big & Rich this week, and with both Lee and Brad set to go recurrent, that would get Keith up to #21 on the next chart, with a decent chance at top 20 if songs like "Dust", "Later On", and/or "All Alright" decide to give up. Anyway, a bit off-topic here, but Keith and the writers of "We Were Us" (Jon Nite, Jimmy Robbins, and Nicolle Galyon) just had the #1 party for that song. It was noted that WWU has surpassed 1 million downloads, making it Keith's first-ever Platinum hit (it's not certified by the RIAA yet but I'm sure that's only a matter of time). One of the big things I took away from Keith's comments (I'll link below) is that this song almost wasn't a single. In Keith's own words, they had the song recorded but it wasn't looking like they were gonna get RCA's approval/support to release it as a single. The conversation came up to re-record the song with a different vocalist but Keith didn't want to do that. He felt that Miranda was too important to the song as it was, so he made the decision to leave it as it was, and he said he'd rather have it be an album track with Miranda's part intact than be a single with a different vocalist. So Keith said he took a leap of faith and decided to leave the song the way it was, and he hoped that when they finally came to it, a miracle would happen and they'd be able to get the support from Miranda's label as well. So I just thought that was pretty cool and interesting. Keith speaks for a while in the video as does Nicolle Galyon. Keith's never had a platinum hit?! What?! Weird... Most of his big hits came during a time when people still bought albums. "Somebody Like You", "You'll Think Of Me", "Days Go By", and "Better Life" were all hits when iTunes was just in its infancy stages. And over the last 5-7 years, Keith has maintained his star status, but just like Chesney and McGraw, he's no longer among THEE absolute biggest names. But his last 4 singles ("For You", "Little Bit Of Everything", "We Were Us", and "Cop Car") are all Gold or better now.
