The band WILL release a third single from "Rewind." It'd be foolish not to. I never doubted that they would release a 3rd single from the album, but I think we have some confirmation now that there will be a follow-up to "Payback". Nashville Country Club sent me an email today for a survey as to what RF's next single should be. Here's a link for anyone who wants to complete the survey. The 4 songs being considered (at least according to this survey) are "DJ Tonight", "I Like The Sound Of That", "Riot", and "I'm On Fire". "DJ Tonight" and "I Like The Sound Of That" are written by Meghan Trainor, Shay Mooney and Jesse Frasure. "Riot" by Jaron Boyer and Sara Haze. "I'm On Fire" by Sean McConnell, Tobias Lundgren, Johan Fransson, Tim Larsson (these guys are frequent collaborators with Audra Mae -- who wrote and originally recorded "Little Red Wagon"). Of the 4, I'd prefer "DJ Tonight" or "I'm On Fire" but I don't mind the others. If I'm looking for the biggest hit possible, it's GOTTA be "DJ Tonight," though "Riot" could do very well too. Both should sell well. Also interesting of note is that Howard Benson (who produced 5 of the 13 tracks) isn't the producer on those choices. Jay and Rascal Flatts are. "Payback" was produced by Benson, best known for his work with rock acts like Daughtry.

What's with all the obscure writers on this album anyway?

^ Most of the tracks are by writers I recognize. But Neil Thrasher only has one writing credit which seems sacreligous for a Rascal Flatts album.

What's with all the obscure writers on this album anyway? They aren't obscure...just newer...lots of solid people who have been honing their craft while the peach pickers and their ilk have dominated. MR

As much as I love most of RF's ballads, I'm not sure if another ballad would be the best choice, considering the way "Payback" has struggled.
RF is an act who certainly has success if they find songs to connect with their audience. I think the key, though, is the authenticity and heart behind it. People support them when they're in their wheelhouse (Rewind, I Won't Let Go, etc), and I think if they can establish that with a single that sounds like Rascal Flatts, and not Rascal Flatts trying to "fit in" they should be fine. At any rate, DJ Tonight should be a good example of what RF does well when they just have fun without overthinking it.

This is done. Bullet of -113 and a loss of half a million in audience. A little surprised they didn't want to wait one more week with probably 2 songs going recurrent, but in the end it doesn't matter because this was going nowhere.

Yes, this is on pace to go recurrent on next week's BB chart. It will stay on MB but it's in freefall mode, so there's nothing to bother tracking here.

I wish this could've snuck it's way into the Top 20 because I really like this tune and it wasn't too far out. But I guess OTOH, it's kinda nice to see in this chart climate that not everything can be pushed to the next milestone before giving up on it and freeing up chart space. This does make "Payback" the lowest-charting single of Rascal Flatts career now though, and their first to miss the Top 20.
