I actually thought the Mike D remix, half-assed though it was, worked surprisingly well for the Gotye song. This Hozier mix is shamefully bad and I hope I never hear it on any Atlanta stations. It's not going to convert anyone who dislikes the original and it'll piss off the people who do like it, so I'm not sure what programmers are thinking by playing it. Just replace Atlanta with Houston (Houston resident here) and this is how I feel. This is a great song just the way it is and it shouldn't need a remix to get played on CHR. I do wish you luck in avoiding hearing this song remixed over there in Atlanta too.

Darn, no Best New Artist Grammy nomination for Hozier. Hard to believe, unless perhaps his mainstream breakthrough came too late in the voting process?

"Take Me To Church" nominated for Song of the Year at the Grammys!! And since this category is supposed to be exclusively for songwriting, he might have a chance to pull a huge upset. In any case, he will now almost certainly get to perform during the show!

It was released on Sept. 19, and the cutoff date isn't until Sept. 30.

I see the 9/19 date listed, but I'm positive its debut was the week I'm referencing. And the EPs he released during the eligibility had 4 tracks (Grein says 5 tracks is the minimum - which is also why Trainor wasn't eligible). It's also possible (maybe even probable) Grein was wrong, but I find it somewhat doubtful he could have been up for BNA and not receive a nomination over HAIM.

The US street date was October 7, but there was something floating around saying that the limited early release of vinyl copies at Amoeba or something on 9/30 made it eligible.

I don't know, billboard has an article about favourites for the grammy nomination (i think the nailed it) and say that Hozier and Vance Joy could score a surprise nomination due to the current buzz, so i thought he was eligible

You're right about the early October release date, sorry for the confusion. Sept. 19 was when it was first released in Ireland.

Well, he did get nominated, so...
Anyways, I really really really don't like the remix for this. It just doesn't work. This isn't supposed to be a four-on-the-floor, raving dance song. It's supposed to be soulful and heartfelt, and all of that is lost in the remix. Part of what makes it stand out is its uniqueness, and the remix just strips it all away.

Song back up to #2 on iTunes (with the song from the non-deluxe version of the album also at #65) following his performance at the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show broadcasted tonight on CBS!

The nomination debate was about Best New Artist. There wasn't any question that this would be a strong contender for SOTY. I agree about the remix. The original version isn't the most obvious pop hit, but a) that's sort of the point - it's a different sort of song that stands out amid a sea of homogeneity and b) it hits pretty hard, it's definitely not a lethargic ballad or self-indulgent blues/folk type hit; it's very radio/ADD-conscious.

I love both this and Stay With Me and I think one of the two will win SOTY. Both very deserving.

So glad that this received a nomination for Song of the Year. I would love for it to win. Even if it doesn't, I hope it can become an bigger hit than it is now. Oh, and I'm not a fan of the pop radio mix. It definitely degrades the quality of the song.

So what do people think about its chances to dethrone "Blank Space" for the #1 spot? It will be difficult, but at least "Blank Space" is going to peak on radio before "Church" does. They are close on Hot AC, but on pop radio Swift is already #2 and should be peaking in another week or so, while Hozier is only at #12. It will then depend on if he can overtake Swift in sales at some point, and, not to beat a dead horse, but this is what makes the remix even more infuriating--imagine how much higher his sales would be if they were playing the original in key markets like NYC, Chicago, etc.

It's difficult but this is still climbing and the sales are rising after the Victoria's secret was aired (of course Blank Spaces sales raise too). Right now it's the only song with chances to dethrone Blank Space, but it won't be easy.
Anyway, absolutely amizing the performance of this song. Risky lyrics and risky video, but it totally worked

honestly "thinking out loud" might block this after taylor falls. the other two contenders for #1 are bruno and meghan but they still have a long way to climb on radio.

I think Thinking out loud will be very very big, but frankly it's too soon to know it, and giving the airplay (it didn't went for adds yet), Thinking out loud it's very far from being a contender now.
Given the fact Taylor doesn't benefit from streaming, once Take me to church reduce the gap on airplay and sales it will have a chance, unfortunately for Hozier, Blank Space is still climbing on most formats, making the posibility of being blocked form number one very real

I kinda like this. It's not really up my alley musically at all, but I keep hearing it in Spotify commercials and I think today I heard it on a TV commercial, too, and the chorus got stuck in my head. It's pretty good. I'm kinda surprised at how big this is right now, too. At least for me it seems this came out of nowhere, though it might be that I just don't pay as much attention to other genres outside country music.

Hozier is performing on The Voice season finale tonight, presumably with fan favorite Matt McAndrew, who sang "Church" earlier in the season. The song should get a really nice sales boost from this!
