3) The first solo female artist on an independent label to hit #1 with her debut single. Apparently, not the first ever. According to the industry chart geeks: All AccessWell, as they're so wont to do lately, Billboard is being really stupid about this. They date the Country Airplay chart's history only back to January 1990, the start of the BDS era. Everything prior to that counts as the history of the Hot Country Songs chart, and then all the peak positions from 1990-2012 count on both Country Airplay and Hot Country Songs (if you asked Billboard, they'd tell you that a song like "Jesus, Take The Wheel" was a 6-week Country Airplay #1 AND a 6-week Hot Country Songs #1). So, in short, yes, they are saying that Kelsea is the first female artist on an independent label to take her debut single to #1. Mediabase might have still counted the #1's from Marie Osmond (MGM) and Donna Fargo (Dot)...but Mediabase didn't exist back then. And ever since the new Hot Country Songs chart came about, Billboard has foolishly decided to no longer credit anything in the pre-BDS era (prior to 1990) towards the Country Airplay chart's history...so, in 2012, George Strait somehow went from having 44 Billboard airplay #1's to 25 Billboard Country Airplay #1's. Oh, Billboard will still say he has 44 #1's on Hot Country Songs, but the first 19 of them no longer count towards his Country Airplay history, because they occurred in the pre-BDS era (the 80's). Anyway...back on topic. Congrats are certainly in order for Kelsea. I personally do view Kelsea as being the first female on an independent label to take her debut single to #1, at least in the modern era, but I find it highly annoying that Billboard isn't even mentioning stuff prior to 1990, as if that's magically when the world of country radio began.

I just bought her album on sunday and I'm really enjoying it from what I've heard. The album booklet is lovely too. As for this song, I'm thrilled that it made it to #1.

I couldn't be more happy that this is at #1. I am so relieved that a solo female was finally able to hit #1 for the first time in almost three years, and for it to double as a debut single from a new female is just a fantastic victory! It has been almost three years since a woman has been #1 on Country radio?!?!

On Mediabase, however, a few female singles did manage to go #1 over the last couple of years, including Miranda Lambert's "Mama's Broken Heart" in 2013 (peaked at #2 on Billboard) and "Automatic" last year (which peaked at #3 on Billboard). Carrie also scored a pair of Mediabase #1's with "Two Black Cadillacs" and "See You Again", but both of them stalled at #2 on Billboard.

I'm happy with Dibs as the next single. It's up tempo and has a great catchy part to get into people's heads. She has plenty of great tracks for the third and fourth single. Get it girl. That's a great avatar. :) #jealous

Billboard has always had various excuses and methods of reasoning in discussing chart history; 1990 was a very important year for country radio as the format boom engineered by the top three new singles artists of 1989 (Clint Black/Garth Brooks/Lorrie Morgan) took off due to all of the future format superstars who came along between 1989 & 1994 including Alan, Toby, Trisha, Tim, Martina, Brooks & Dunn, Kenny and others.
By 1992 the format had risen to #1 in listenership as top 40 imploded by losing HALF of its reporters between 1989-2003, and never recovered until 2007.
Almost 23 years later, minus a 9 month run at #2 as news talk rose to #1 during the heat of the 2008 presidential race, country is still #1 in total listeners, so if BB chooses to ignore or acknowledge any pre-1990 chart accomplishments, they're welcome to look really stupid in the process given the unprecedenred boom in country music's popularity which began in 1989 thanks to those artists previously mentioned.
Props to Kelsea for topping both charts; here's hoping her new single does very well.

Black River's Mike Wilson (VP of Promotion), Gordon Kerr (CEO) and Greg McCarn (General Manager) calling Kelsea to break the news that her debut single officially went #1.
This is really cool. Whether you like "Love Me Like You Mean It" or not, it's difficult to not root for Kelsea and her label.

^100% agree. Kelsea is the epitome of an extremely real and likable person that you can't help but cheer for. That video wanted to make me cry!

Also, got to get this in. The Pegulas (owners of Black River) sent Kelsea and her team LA NOVA pizza, which is one of the best Buffalo area pizzerias (also the official pizza of the Buffalo Bills).

Any song with a spin gain such as this one as it reaches the top is a mortal lock to have the bottom drop out if it the following week, and this one is no exception; a loss of well over 2,000 spins next week would appear to be a foregone conclusion. Close. A loss of 1700 spins in Billboard and 1600 in MediaBase.
