Following the terrorist attacks of September 11th, 2001, Clear Channel distributed a controversial list to its 1200+ radio stations. It was a list of songs the stations were advised (but not required) to avoid playing. The list drew a lot of criticism. It largely consisted of rock songs, and infamously included "All songs by Rage Against The Machine." You can view the list here. This thread is not intended to be a debate about whether or not the list was a good idea, but rather to speculate on songs that would have made it had they been out at the time. I am avoiding songs that were clearly written as a direct result of 9/11 ("Times Like These" by the Foo Fighters and "Courtesy Of The Red, White And Blue" by Toby Keith come to mind). Here's what I have come up with: Avenged Sevenfold - Buried Alive Avenged Sevenfold - Nightmare Awolnation - Kill Your Heroes B.o.B. - Airplanes f/Hayley Williams Breaking Benjamin - Blow Me Away f/Valora Brooks & Dunn - God Must Be Busy Capital Cities - Safe And Sound Chevelle - Face To The Floor Chevelle - Send The Pain Below Disturbed - Another Way To Die Disturbed - Inside The Fire Five Finger Death Punch - The Pride Foo Fighters - D.O.A. Foo Fighters - These Days Foster The People - Pumped Up Kicks Godsmack - Cryin' Like A Bitch Green Day - 21 Guns Green Day - American Idiot Green Day - Holiday Green Day - Know Your Enemy Green Day - Wake Me Up When September Ends Jay-Z - Empire State Of Mind f/Alicia Keys M.I.A. - Paper Planes Metallica - All Nightmare Long Metallica - Broken, Beat And Scarred Nickelback - Side Of A Bullet Papa Roach - Where Did The Angels Go? Shinedown - 45 Shinedown - Devour Shinedown - Diamond Eyes (Boom-Lay Boom-Lay Boom) Tool - Vicarious Volbeat - Fallen Any songs on my list that you particularly agree or disagree with? And what songs not on here do you think would have made the list?

While we're talking about explosives, maybe "Dynamite" by Taio Cruz and "Grenade" by Bruno Mars? Neither of course has anything to do with 9/11 or actual violence (except for Bruno's willingness to catch a grenade for his love), but in light of the way so many stations briefly froze up against "Die Young" after Newtown, CT, based on nothing more than the title, who knows?
Nickelback's "If Today Was Your Last Day" might qualify; also maybe Miley Cyrus' "Wrecking Ball" (as in the image of slamming into buildings).

This song actually received similar treatment (i.e., reduction in plays because of sensitivity) but for a different event - the Newtown shootings of 2012.

Whatever the song, it should lead the artist(s) to collaborate with Pitbull, to make JUST ANOTHER account that he "saves careers".

Peter Gabriel's "The Tower That Ate People" & Soul Coughing's "Is Chicago, Is Not Chicago" really seem to eerily bring to mind the attack on the WTC. Considering both songs pre-date 2001, it's almost like they foreshadow that awful day.

Thursday - "War All the Time"
"War all the time, in the shadow of the New York skyline. Falling apart, like the ashes of American flags. We used to be very tall buildings, now we've been falling for so long. The buildings fall like it's a last day parade, and the fires in the streets start to rage."
It doesn't help that the video was banned from MTV for showing a bunch of kids getting shot at and a plane flying through a city trying to shoot buildings down. And at the end, it's revealed that the city is indeed in fact NYC.
