This is by far the least Jay Joyce-y production I've ever heard out of Jay Joyce. Love the disco-y feel of it though. I'm with you on the disco-y feel. I hate that this has become such a guilty pleasure for me. The lyrics are dreck, it's the furthest thing from country (even by modern standards), but yet, when it comes on I don't turn the channel. I'm certainly not going to be buying it on iTunes, but just by being tolerable it surpassed his first two songs from this record.

I hope he can come back with a really good follow up album with some quality country songs on it. I think Thomas has a chance to be a big star in the country industry. I saw him live once, and he had a lot of charisma, not too far off from Luke Bryan's level IMO. Plus he's really young and already a star, so he could be around a long time if he plays his cards right.

Not really looking forward to that if it's going to be "poppy" and heavily produced.
What is it with these former songwriters-made-artists that feel like they need to sing alternative pop songs in a Southern accent (yes, I'm talking about you Chase Rice, Cole Swindell, Sam Hunt, Thomas Rhett, Jerrod Niemann and unfortunately now you too Lee Brice).

tasteofcountry.com/thomas-rhett-make-me-wanna-video/Music video is out for the song. I've really been enjoying this one, while the lyrics may not be original, the production is and the song is extremely catchy. This one will easily get stuck in your head. I see this being at least a top 3 song for Rhett, who seems to be on a role lately.

He looks GOOD in that suit in the video! I can finally learn the lyrics to this song, too!

He has a ton of charisma, makes insanely catchy songs, and is a decent looking fella too. I think the lead single for his next album will probably be huge, and he good be positioning himself up for a strong career.

I think Hunter has a long way to go. He's 23 and still looks and sounds about half that. And at least Thomas Rhett actually is 24, and not a 38-year-old desperately pretending to still be 24, like Luke Bryan is.

He's more mature than most of them are and he has a different vocal style. Now if he'd just quit with the hair gel life would be good! (I'm a Hayniac. Been one since Wanted made me want to live at the last second.) Thomas is young, but isn't he married? He doesn't act like it.

This is disco - pure and simple. I tend to like my country rocking if it is going to deviate from traditional country. This song feels like it could have been produced for Rick Astley ("Never Gonna Give You Up" fame from the late 80's).
That said, I do find most of Rhett's stuff to be fairly enjoyable, all the way back to "Something To Do With My Hands"

I wholeheartedly agree that Hunter is more mature than the vast majority of new male artists, but his label needs to stop marketing him as an artist who only appeals to the teenage girl demographic.

Bob Kingsley is currently playing a different version of this song. The vocal line sounds a bit different, most notably after "It oughta be against the law" he adds "you know it should", and there are a few other spots where his phrasing sounds slightly different than the album version. Any idea where this redone version would've come from?

Sorry for the double post, but I heard WATZ play the alternate version with the "It oughta be against the law, you know it should". Any idea what's going on here? Why is there suddenly an only slightly different version of this song out?
ETA: He also uses the "you know it should" line in the video.

Ten Pound Hammer, that's the version I've heard every single time this song has been on the radio. It's also the version on All Access. I think that's the radio edit and the only version radio is being encouraged to play. Perhaps your station had been playing the album cut at first and then they realized there was a difference in the radio edit. I suspect this edit is trying to make Thomas' vocals sound more mature and intimate rather than "bro-ish" as they do on "Get Me Some of That." Big Machine has been trying to make all their artists seem more moderate lately.

All the Phoenix stations play the version with the "you know it should" line in it (which, to me, is the normal version). I made a brief trip back home to Iowa about 2 weeks ago and all the stations around there played that version, too.

He added that line then, and actually, it's the only difference from the lyrics of the original as there was just some sort of mumble there before. Certainly wasn't an edit to make lyric 'PG' for radio.

This is my guilty pleasure right now. The tailgate, bro-country songs almost never pique my interest, but this song is just too catchy and groovy for me to resist. Definitely my favorite Thomas Rhett single so far.

I too like the "groove" of this song and it does stand out compared to anything else on the radio right now, but I cannot help but at least giggle every time those chorus lyrics kick in. At some point it ceases to be eye rolling and it becomes amusing at the cliche ridden truck lyrics.
That said, I'll gladly take this over "Get Me Some Of That" any day.

This one is shaping up to be another big hit for Rhett. Whether people like his songs on here or not (I personally am a big fan), they've done a great job picking the singles from this album. I think they went for 3/3 with choices from this album. "It Goes Like This" was a little bit safer, and also did a good job appealing to women, who make up a big part of radio's audience. "Get Me Some of That" was a great follow up due to it being insanely catchy. And this song is perfect as the 3rd single because it's unique instrumentation allows it to set itself apart from not only his other songs, but also everybody else's. I've said this before on here, but with Rhett being really young, I have a good feeling he will become a big star / A-lister someday.

I had nothing against his vocal performance on the album version, but I can see how the radio edit makes it a little less strident and bro-ish. Either way, the disco production totally sells this song (Jay Joyce is awesome), and I'm not bothered any by the lyrics.

I'll ask him on Twitter and see if he responds.

The vocals on the radio edit also sound a bit different, though. Thomas stresses different syllables and overall it sounded to me like he was trying to come across as more mature.

Remember that he recorded that original album version in like 2011 or so too. He likely redid it simply because he'd changed how it was doing it live. That happens ALL the time (one reason Craig Morgan gave for re-doing much of his work for BBR on his last album).

THIS was the song that landed TR at the top of the Billboard list? When I saw earlier that he landed the #1 spot, I figured it would at least be the catchy, although trashy, "Get Me Some of That", but this extremely boring, forgettable tune edged out "Automatic", "Girl In a Country Song", and "Give Me Back My Hometown", let alone the hundreds of other songs this year more deserving to be on this list? Yuck.
