SUBWAY Fresh Buzz Song: Pharrell Williams - Come Get It Bae You sure that's right? "Love Never Felt So Good", "First Love", and "A Sky Full Of Stars" are the three options from the web site. Though it wouldn't be the first time "none of the above" was chosen as the answer. - This is a first: Michael Jackson (nearly five years postmortem) shows up on Seacrest's CHR for the first time. Indeed. It's been 12 years since the king charted on AT40..."Butterflies" in 2002. That was, of course, during Casey's tenure. Looks like the iHeart station is off of it's, usual, 8:00-12:00-4:00 schedule. Last week's show is still playing and the latest replay just started around 6:00 PM EDT. We may not get the new show until tomorrow.

We may not get the new show until tomorrow. With the switch to the international version of the show, the AT40 iHeartRadio channel appears to be on a 12-3-6-9 schedule. Minus commercials, promotional announcements and optional extras, the show fits into three hours. Update: It appears that, in this new format, one optional extra plays per show, but not at the regular time. You'd need to listen four times to hear them all.

YES! Thanks to the #37 debut of "Love Never Felt So Good" by Michael Jackson and Justin Timberlake, the late King of Pop finally makes it to Ryan Seacrest's AT40 era!

YES! Thanks to the #37 debut of "Love Never Felt So Good" by Michael Jackson and Justin Timberlake, the late King of Pop finally makes it to Ryan Seacrest's AT40 era! And his AT40 run now literally spans the entire existence of the show; the Jackson 5 were at #2 on the debut AT40, in July 1970, with "The Love You Save". 10 extras this week, including several crowded around the entrance to the top 10; choosing Katy Perry and Jason Derulo extras gives both of them three songs in the show in which they're the lead artists. Relatively few big moves, except for the new Derulo and Sam Smith songs, nothing moves up or down more than five notches, but the chart's not too stagnant either, with three debuts and only four songs in the same place as last week; one of the nonmovers, Ed Sheeran's "Sing", hits the AT40 jackpot with three lucky 7's in a row (I wish it were luckier, as in higher on the chart, but oh well.) Speaking of lucky 7's, Justin Timberlake gets his 7th solo #1; the last such was "Mirrors", on top exactly one year ago this week.

So...look for the Optional Extras to still possibly be played, albeit in the wrong spots. "In the End" just played, before #13.

An open letter to iHeartRadio concerning the American Top 40 channel.
Just play the show. The U.S. version. With all the segments including the optional extras. In order. When the show is over, play it again.
Why is that so hard?

And, had AT40 existed prior to 7/4/70, Michael's chart history would have stretched back to December 6, 1969, the week The Jackson 5 debuted their first single in the top 40, "I Want You Back". This gives him, at least, one top 40 appearance in each of six consecutive decades -- '60s, '70s, '80s, '90s, '00s, and, now, '10s.

"Don't You Worry Child" was also played out of position, after #27. "Teenage Dream" seems to have been skipped completely thus far...no idea on "Disturbia" because my laptop restarted during #9 and was acting up. By the time I got it sorted out the next airing had started. On the other hand it looks as though the international version matches up to the US version this week. I doubt very much that I'll find a third non-Optional extra in the final hour.

I get that they want celebrities to guest host the show at times, but Ellen K. should guest host at least once. She has a good voice.

Something else I just thought of: Michael's posthumous return to the chart is a collaboration with Justin Timberlake, whose first hit song, as an 'N Sync member, had the same title as the J5's first hit.

When was the last posthumous hit on AT40? I want to say it was 2Pac's "Changes" in 1999.

When was the last posthumous hit on AT40? I want to say it was 2Pac's "Changes" in 1999. More recent than that (this was also asked over in the main chart thread). I believe Aaliyah's "Miss You" from 2003 is the most recent posthumous hit credited to the lead artist. Elvis's "A Little Less Conversation", from 2002, also postdates "Changes".

I think the days of other DJs guest hosting are pretty much over. Exception is Hollywood Hamilton's Weekend Top 30, where it's almost always an guest DJ(s) from a station that airs this sister show.

I wish the I Heart Radio app was available in Canada. Or that I had some way to stream old AT40 shows. Is it possible to stream shows from the 90s?

You can stream stations (including some Canadian ones) that play AT40s from the 1970s and 80s. iHeart now has a station devoted to them as well, though it may not help you much as of yet. 1990s AT40s and Casey's Top 40s are not available for streaming, at least not legally.

There was also Natasja who was featured on Enur's "Calabria 2008." And uncredited artists like Etta James and Clarence Clemmons.

And Static Major, who was on Lollipop by Lil'Wayne. He also wrote a lot for Aaliyah's self-titled album.

This question was inspired by the new number one single this week on AT 40. In the 2000s and even the 2010s how many videoless singles have hit #1 on the pop chart. Anyone know?
