Spinoff for the dance fans/gays, inspired by Ginger Spice's polls and the wealth of knowledge Disco Cowboy left in then (I know, right?): What are your top 10 favorite remixes? Preferably club mixes and not something like 'Ignition (Remix)' or whatever happened with Florida Georgia Line's latest, but you get the idea.

1. Till the World Ends (Femme Fatale Remix) - Britney Spears, Nicki Minaj, & Ke$ha 2. Stay High (Habits Remix) - Tove Lo & Hippie Sabotage
I don't like very many remixes tbh...

You're lucky I did a dance chart... These are my top right now, and I'm planning to out them in a mix show at some point...
1.) Selena Gomez - Come & Get It (Jump Smokers Remix) 2.) Asher Monroe - Here With You (Sick individuals Remix) 3.) Katy Perry - Birthday (Cash Cash Remix) 4.) Ellie Goulding - Lights (Bassnectar Remix) 5.) Demi Lovato - Neon Lights (Cole Plante & Myon & Shane 54 Mix) 6.) The Wanted - Warzone (Basto Remix) 7.) Katy Perry - E.T. (Noisia Remix) 8.) Lady Gaga - LoveGame (Dave Aude Remix) 9.) Beyoncé - Drunk In Love (Diplo Remix) 10.) Idina Menzel - Let It Go (Armin van Buuren Remix)
They're diverse in the sense that they represent at least one subset of dance.

I am doing this as a Top 10 of all time versus a contemporary one. It's so hard to pick just 10! Delerium feat. Sarah McLachlan - Silence (Tiesto's In Search Of Sunrise Remix)The original is a haunting, building new age Enigma style track. Other remixes by Sanctuary kept some of the moody vibe of the original but it didn't quite do it. This mix got Tiesto noticed on a wider scale internationally. The building nature of the original was kept in this dark Trance/Progressive mix. This song sparked a greater interest in remixes of Sarah's music (2 remix albums of her material were produced). There have been nearly 2 dozen remixes of this song, but only the Tiesto mix got it right and it holds up even after all these years. Eurythmics - 17 Again (Peter Rauhofer Mix)This is one of Peter's most exciting creations. This sums up everything he was about. The emphasis on the vocal after such a layered, swirling buildup and breakdown was mindblowing. The use of the chorus from their signature hit "Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This)" later in the song as a sort of bridge is so apropos as Annie referenced the song in the final verse. Thunderpuss also incorporated that into their fab mix. All of the remixes of "17 Again" were not commercially released as Annie and Dave didn't like how the remixes turned out. Jennifer Lopez - Waiting For TonightThis is one of the best remixes of all time. The original was a great example of Dance/Pop from that time, but Hex and Mac Quayle took a great song and made it excellent. The dark, Trance sound they were doing at that time was perfect. The song is best enjoyed in it's full 11 minute mix. The short edit manages to keep the essential drama moments, but it's best enjoyed long and loud. I love the long building intro and then the first verse comes in and it's just glorious. And then that beatless break leading towards that massive buildup and breakdown with Jennifer vocalizing (this whole part is condensed to 30 seconds in the music video leading to those few seconds where the music stop and then it begins again after they show it's 2000). The dub version of this mix is epic too as it centers around just the buildups and breakdowns over and over. Lisa Stansfield - Never Gonna Fall (Junior's Return To 27th & 10th Anthem)The original is a smooth, quiet storm R&B type of song. Junior, Kazuhiko Gomi, and Joey Mosk transformed it into a nu-disco/circuit masterpiece. After the dubby tribal intro, it's totally disco-inspired. Madonna - Frozen (Victor Calderone's Extended Club Mix)This is a brilliant reconstruction of the haunting midtempo. I love that this incorporates the orchestral elements from the original's intro right before the first verse and then during the drop later in the mix. Madonna - Secret (Junior's Luscious Club Mix)The midtempo R&B/Dance number was the first of several official Junior and Madonna collaborations. This mix was so light and cute with the "I Luv U Baby" referencing Eurodance riff. It's brilliant. Fred Jorio and Junior's Sound Factory mixes were harder, incorporating a fierce loop from the intro of Taylor Dayne's "With Every Beat Of My Heart." Mariah Carey - Dreamlover (Def Club Mix)This is the remix that began the magical relationship of Mariah and David Morales. They went on to do nearly a dozen remixes since this one. Mariah re-recorded her vocals for this with only a handful of the vocals staying close to the original melody. The lyrics are the only connection back to the original. This could be thought of as a brand new song. The Tribal mix is totall different. Paula Cole Band - I Believe In Love (Jonathan's Anthem)The soft Adult Contemporary fare would have gone largely unnoticed if it weren't for Jonathan Peters, Tony Coluccio, and Jim Heinz. Paula re-recorded her vocals for this mix. The song is a 14 minute journey filled with hard beats, orchestral elements, and superb strings. Joey Mosk and Jonathan did some alternate softer mixes. Toni Braxton - Un-Break My Heart (Soul-Hex Vocal Anthem)This remix put both Soul Solution and Hex Hector on the map. Hex Hector had worked on this mix initially, however, the label found it to be too dark and didn't want to re-do it so Soul Solution were called upon to fix it. The released version was the result. The original dark version was structurally similar to the released one except that it doesn't have the looped vocals in the intro leading to the first verse and it begins differently. The breakdown after the second verse and chorus only has the high note part once and then is completely instrumental until the final verse. Toni was the one who asked Soul Solution to make a slow-to-fast version for her to perform at the Billboard awards in 1996 without her label's knowledge. They were shocked when she did that performance, however, to their surprise, fans and radio stations loved it and a slow-to-fast edit was eventually released. Whitney Houston - It's Not Right But It's Okay (Thunderpuss Mix)This was a massive reconstruction of the moderate midtempo. They turned it into a monster of a track from the production to the vocal effects and loops of the high notes (the full mix has more of that). The 15 second loop of Whitney's high note is fantastic. Thunderpuss always would take one of the high notes and hyper extend it to the extreme and it just worked. All of the drama moments are absolutely epic. It has been said that this is the remix that really got them noticed on a mainstream level after "Kiss The Rain."

Okay updated - so here's a top 10 with commentary and links where possible~ Aqua - Barbie Girl (Dirty Rotten Scoundrels Clinical 12" Mix)This remix is essentially Barbie Girl... IN HELL. First experienced when I was 8 years old, when I got 'Aquarium' for Christmas with a bonus remix CD. Most of the remixes on that disc were majorly different to the original version (special shout-out to the Razor & Guido mix of 'Lollipop', a 12-and-a-half minute MONSTROSITY that is cool as f**k). The reason I went with this over Lollipop is this is just so twisted. There's enough vocal there you'd recognise it as Barbie Girl when you hear it but it is just so trippy and bizarre a piece of music, you wouldn't think an 8-year-old would appreciate it since it's not the cutesy cartoony original. But I loved it. So there. It was my introduction to remixes yippee~ I've linked the radio edit because I couldn't find the full version anywhere. The effect is the same. Britney Spears - You Drive Me Crazy (Mike Ski Dub)Okay, confession time - I didn't initially like Britney. I wasn't a fan of 'Baby One More Time' when it was out, but I gave her a chance after 'Sometimes'. I didn't get to use the internet a lot back then, so I had no idea she'd released a third single 'til I stumbled across this remix. Never even heard the original or single mix, just gave it a shot. I guess it was because of the above Aqua remix that I didn't just turn it off 30 seconds in out of boredom. But yeah, this is the remix that converted me to Britney. I also love what Mike did with 'Sometimes' although I didn't hear that one for a while after this one. Hilary Duff - Come Clean (Chris Cox Flood Mix)Hilary's had some really nice remixes done for her songs in the past. This was no exception. It has all the elements that made Thunderpuss so great even though it was a Chris solo production. I don't often revisit the remixes on this list but like I said, I don't get tired of them because I think they're just that strong. This mix is epic and fun, I love all the build-ups and vocal loops and the use of that acoustic guitar arpeggio from the original. Jewel - Intuition (Gabriel & Dresden Hi-Tek Digital Mix)I think the first time I heard this remix was on the Australian CD single? Either that or I downloaded it on a whim IDK. Either way this is a really epic remix with flawless production. I don't mind that much that it slows down for the main body of the song, although I'd have liked to hear a variation that was all up-tempo, seeing as they did an alternate club mix centered around the down-tempo production. Both this and the Lo-Tek Analog Dub are pretty damn perfect, as is the Markus Schulz Coldharbour Mix. Jennifer Lopez - Let's Get Loud (Matt & Vito's Live Your Life Remix)Again, liked the radio edit 'cause I can't find the full version online. There was only an 11 minute version released commercially but there is apparently a 14 minute version on some obscure promo which had different dubs/edits/instrumentals of their mix. I've got the 11 minute version on CD, and I don't care it's so long I just think it's a lot of fun with tons of energy. I really liked Matt & Vito as a production duo, I'm not well-versed in their remixography but I don't think I've heard a mix of theirs I didn't like. Kylie Minogue - Did It Again (Trouser Enthusiasts Goddess Of Contortion Mix)AWESOME. AWESOME. AWESOME. Haha notice how the mixes I've picked out for this list tend to be really long? Well I think there's enough going on to make them really interesting despite the length. This one in particular, I love the dark trance-y thing going on. There's some extended instrumental sections for sure, but the production is incredible and highly listenable. I chopped up the instrumental parts for an Aly & AJ mash-up once (lol.) More recently I used the same instrumental parts for a mash-up of Anna Kendrick's 'Cups' (I should really share that. It's awesome too.) LeAnn Rimes - You Are (Lenny Bertoldo Extended Club Mix)Frankly I do not know why this remix exists. It was never a single, I can find no mention of plans for one. Apparently it was released on X-Mix, but I repeat - why does it exist? Truthfully, the answer is irrelevant because it's just such a melodic and beautifully-done remix. There's a 7 minute version which I found first, then the edit was released on her 'Best Of' remix compilation, then the full 8-and-a-half mix was released when a massive slab of remixes was put up for sale on iTunes. I think the edit is weak, IDK what exactly it is that makes the production sound different, it just sounds... dull in comparison. Plus the structure is different, the full mix has no chorus between the verses and has more of a build, the edit is more traditional. Sadly the full mix isn't online for streaming, just the inferior edit. *sigh* Madonna - Don't Tell Me (Tracy Young Club Mix)I could've gone with the Thunderpuss remix because that one is equally as memorable but I like their version and Tracy's mix equally. I've got this one on CD as well, I think there's enough going on to keep it interesting for the whole 11 minute runtime. Mandy Moore - In My Pocket (Thunderpuss Club Mix)Honestly just one of Thunderpuss' best remixes IMO. That 'nothing but pennies' loop gets me every single time. They really brought out the best of Mandy's attitude in the song, with production that has their typical tribal-house flavour. This stands head and shoulders above the other mixes by Soul Solution and Hex Hector (although Hex's guitar-a-pella is also a favourite!) Mariah Carey - Honey (Def Club Mix)Disclaimer: I don't care for Mariah. I tried. I'm sorry. But we've got the 'Butterfly' album at home (it was a Christmas present for my sister. I have 'claimed' it ever since because she really does not care). Anyway, this remix was one of the bonus tracks and I love it. There's the much longer Def Rascal Anthem of course, but I'm used to the 6 minute version which I think gets it juuuust right in terms of pacing. The resung vocals > the original version. The whisper-singing just wouldn't have worked on Morales' production.

Jennifer Lopez - Waiting For Tonight (Hex's Momentous Club Mix) - 11:15 / 4:32 (Edit) Disco🌶️📖 has already spoken on this one, and I pretty much agree with what he said. Hex's production is out of this fucking world and while I love the original, the full 11:15 mix takes the song to new levels. This is a dance classic. [HM: Futureshock Midnight At Mambo Remix] Jennifer Lopez - If You Had My Love (Pablo Flores Club Mix) - 9:13 / 3:55 (Edit) The On the 6 era was filled with great remixes. This one is a total latin house jam, and can be heard briefly in the music video during the dance break. I remember being so happy when I found this mix on CD single, and I played it OUT a few years back. I'm not sure why, but something about this mix fits the song perfectly. I'm not a huge fan of Pablo Flores when it comes to remixes, but he really turned this one out. The full mix is the most enjoyable, again, but I generally use the edit for my casual playlists. LeAnn Rimes - Suddenly (Riva Remix) - 8:11 / 4:08 (Edit) This mix is the perfect example of turning something completely mediocre to something incredible. I do like some of LeAnn's music, particularly that album, but I just find the album version of this track to be particularly lacking. Riva created a beautiful trance track, and blended in acoustic guitars to keep some feel of the original. I actually prefer the radio edit to this mix (because I like to pretend it's the original), but the extended version is nice as well. This would probably be my favorite thing that LeAnn has ever put her name on, and I wonder if she even knows it exists. Britney Spears - Everytime (Above & Beyond's Radio Mix) - 3:51 I specifically chose the radio edit because the full mix is more like a dub which is crap. I wish they would have created an extended version of the vocal mix. Anyways, ballads like "Everytime" are usually harder to remix because you have to keep the emotion in tact, but Above & Beyond didn't just do that, they went 'above & beyond' (ha. ha...). They created an amazing trance track that kept Britney's sweet vocals in mind, and created a darker mood for the song. [HM: The Scumfrog Vocal Mix] I have to think a bit about my what my other six favorites will be. I'll edit them in later.

O yes speaking of 'Waiting For Tonight' I'm going against the grain - it was all about the Pablo Flores Miami Mix over Hex's version for me.
EDIT: AND I FORGOT WIDELIFE'S MIX OF LEANN'S TIC TOC THAT MIX IS A BEAST

I was a big fan of the original song, but I loved this remix too! So dark and all over the place. Dirty Rotten Scoundrels did a similar type of remix for The Tamperer's "Feel It" which was similarly twisted, but it was structured like the original, but in their style. Very fun. Hilary Duff - Come Clean (Chris Cox Flood Mix)Hilary's had some really nice remixes done for her songs in the past. This was no exception. I like that one too, but I was a huge fan of the Razor N Guido mix of this as that was cut from the same cloth as their remix of Vernessa Mitchell's "This Joy" which was huge at the time. Mariah Carey - Honey (Def Club Mix)Disclaimer: I don't care for Mariah. I tried. I'm sorry. But we've got the 'Butterfly' album at home (it was a Christmas present for my sister. I have 'claimed' it ever since because she really does not care). Anyway, this remix was one of the bonus tracks and I love it. The whisper-singing just wouldn't have worked on Morales' production. I discovered that short edit from that same edition of the album a little over a year ago. I loved the Classic Club Mix that was on many editions of the single and even the longer Def Rascal Anthem, but this was just the right length. This mix sounded more in the vein of the productions that Joey Mosk was doing with Junior Vasquez at the time whereas the Classic one was totally David, Frankie, and Satoshi's style. Jennifer Lopez - If You Had My Love (Pablo Flores Club Mix) - 9:13 / 3:55 (Edit) The On the 6 era was filled with great remixes. This one is a total latin house jam, and can be heard briefly in the music video during the dance break. Britney Spears - Everytime (Above & Beyond's Radio Mix) - 3:51 I specifically chose the radio edit because the full mix is more like a dub which is crap. [HM: The Scumfrog Vocal Mix] I loved the radio edit of their mix instead of the full one. I could try and produce a longer club mix using the edit and the full mix so we can get the best of both.

Only the Queen of Remix herself: Mariah Carey.
The only artist who's made a point of re-recording and re-singing vocals for remixes, basically creating an entirely brand new song, nearly unrecognizable from the original.

Like something Fragma or 4Strings would have done in the late 90s/early 2000s. Riva produced some great remixes. None of the other remixes of "Suddenly" come close to the Riva one.
