Radio will play this no matter what even if sales, streaming, and callout suck. So they don't have to worry there. I just wonder why they didn't go for something slightly more adventurous since they do have radio on lock no matter what. She could release one of the better songs on the cd or at least one that shows a slightly different side than what she has shown already this era and last? I personally don't like Walking on Air - as I've said, it's cheesy 1990s aerobics music with horrible production, not 2014 pop radio gold - but I suppose that was an option since it has fans and since dancier pop is selling now.

Because the focus groups said "This Is How We Do." As they should.

WOA obviously is a bigger hit, are they stupid or keeping it in the wings for Q4?

I don't get all the hate on "Birthday". That was one of my favorites. It was way better than "Roar" and "Unconditionally" imo. This on the other hand, is meh. Looking back I kinda feel the same way. I think had the video been Katy giving us sexy in the video big balloons and all we would've had a much stronger peak for Birthday. I actually think the video ruined its chances. It was a sweet thing for her to do but that only works the first time you see it. The video didn't have replay value.

It's the same lyrical voice as Waking Up in Vegas, California Gurls, Teenage Dream and Last Friday Night except the tone is more conversational and the name-dropping is a cool twist. Not saying it's the most mature song ever, but I'm not sure how it's any less mature than her other "personality" hits.

She could release one of the better songs on the cd or at least one that shows a slightly different side than what she has shown already this era and last? The lyrics on that Sia song are embarrassingly terrible I personally don't like Walking on Air - as I've said, it's cheesy 1990s aerobics music with horrible production, not 2014 pop radio gold - but I suppose that was an option since it has fans and since dancier pop is selling now. International Smile does the usual Katy style better than This is How We Do, but the lyrics are boring and it's perhaps TOO close to her usual formula. The Daft Punk meets TGIF breakdown is epic though. Oh, I wish you would not dismiss Double Rainbow... it's my favorite! I will agree with you that the lyrics are juvenile, but that's what you are getting with Katy. I generally don't like lyrics from bands like Mumford and Sons (who use deeper allusions and metaphors) because it's too contrived! I think I just enjoy the soft vocals and production. As for WOA, I teach step aerobics and I specifically use only 90s music, and I threw in WOA and my participants loved it! So I agree with you that it's 90s cheesy pop, but I think that's exactly why it's charming and pop gold. And i'll also agree that the Daft Punk inspired breakdown is the best part of IS!!!!

I mean, many of Katy's songs are specifically geared toward a younger crowd so 8th graders is not exactly an insult or crazy to think the label would be trying to court them. Nothing wrong with that, but I wonder if a younger focus group also picked Birthday?

LL or IS would've been much better choices than this... However, a fantastic video might do wonders to this song.

I don't like this song so annoyed it's the next single. Hopefully it flops. If "Birthday" performed like it did, I don't think this will be a hit. Well, it will go top 10 on pop because it's Katy, but I think callout scores are going to be very negative, and this will burn on people very quickly.

If 'Birthday' flopped, this deserves to do even less. It's not a good song, very repetitive.

Strangely, I don't mind this.
I don't care if it broke every record that exists, Dark Horse is still going to be my least favorite Prism single. And actually, I prefer this to Birthday even. I feel like this could have been worse/awful with lesser production, but there's something about the melody that just works for this song.

Well I don't get what all the HATE is for this FUN as F@#k track!!
Somewhere I see Kesha crying into a bottle of JD asking "Why WHY couldn't I get my cheetos stained fingers on this track before Katy?" Nope Sorry negative dollar sign.
What I truly enjoy is the freaking BRIDGE of the song...
This one goes out to ladies, at breakfast, in last night's dress Uh-huh, I see you Yo, this goes out to all you kids that still have their cars at the club valet & it's Tuesday! Yo, shout out to all you kids, buying bottle service, with your rent money! Respect
Katy Perry saying YO twice in a single!! Never thought I'd like BUT I do.
My worst single of hers is STILL TGIF & that got to the top. This I really hope has a hype video with it. Should go Top 10 NO PROBLEM! That's ALL
What? Wait. No, no, no Bring the beat back, that's right
I'm out

I'm surprised no one has said "hot The Game Ft. 50 Cent remake" yet.

"This Is How We Do" will either flop, be successful, or do moderately well. It's unclear how this will perform. This will be one exciting chart run.

Why this song? If Birthday underperformed, this is going to do way worse!! Should have released Walking On Air. That seems to be the song most people want.

I don't see this becoming a big hit tbh, especially coming after "Birthday". I don't think she has any Roar or Dark Horse-sized hit left on Prism, but Walking On Air was her last shot at a reasonable hit imo. Let's see how this does but I don't have high hopes for it.

I think this sounds different than a lot of Katy's prior releases. Maybe the lyrics are quirky like some of her other stuff but the sound of it is different to me.

Alright, now that I finally listened to this, this does not sound like a Katy Perry song.
And those lyrics, Jesus...
but It's alright.
