I couldn't see that image in my smartphone. Could someone transcribe what it said? Btw, I didn't think UnC was a bad decision. Not only for the reasons just stated but also because it was good to show a more serious side of Katy after the childlike image behind Roar. Plus, tbh, UnC is my favorite single this era. Production is top notch, the video is mature and beautiful, and despite not being her best vocal (at all) she managed to emote well enough. It could've been a much better song had she chosen a title that would fit the rhythm of the chorus Like Uncle DeSean Ali? Or like Until the end of time ?

The "problem" with this era is that the songs are not as good as the ones on TD and TD: TCC. From that era they could've released two more singles with great quality and those would've gone top ten on Hot 100.
With this material it's just impossible to get 4-5 top ten hits so they should just release the right ones as singles... and TIHWD isn't one of them imo. Maybe Capitol doesn't see her artistry eye to eye with the GP.
Obviously one or two bad decisions don't hurt her career but several do.

I don't think Katy's career is hurting regardless of having 2 singles that didn't do as well as her previous singles. The label has certainly recouped their money with roar and dark horse and the album. Right now she just had to coast while on tour and then rerelease or new album time.

Today was not the adds date.
This is the 5th single. It's going to take some time.

She looks terrible in that photo, and she looks like she has albanism.
I wonder why they might be releasing the video this early again when it didn't go well last time. This is very recent. Pretty much all of her other singles got videos much later.

Why is everyone being such wet blankets... Shet. Maybe the video is going to be amazing and skyrocket the song. It's been like doom and gloom since Unconditionally was released. She has 2 Hot 100 #1s, a #1 album, a successful tour, her MVs are all Vevo certified... This isn't the TD era, I just wish people would lower their expectations and just enjoy it for what it is.

Color me impressed. I had no idea it was actually possible to make Katy Perry ugly. Bravo stylist team from hell!

Some of us are looking at the discussion at hand (how is it being received by radio PDs, how will it fair as a follow up to a modest hit and will the video have a greater impact than the very underwhelming birthday). I liked that song but the video was poorly done. If you want discussion that's strictly positive go to a katy forum and bring out your big balloons there; otherwise, discussion can be both positive or negative as long as it's respectful.

OMG they are doing the same mistake again by releasing the video so early? :O as if Katy's team wants her to flop in everything she decides to release

That's the best ive seen her in a while, I love that look. The braids and outfit is young, fresh, urban chic. That would have been a good look for her in her tragic video for her amazing song DH.

If the video is released now (tomorrow, according to the photo above) and it gets an ok response, it doesn't help that much as the adds date is still a week away. I do hope we get a spectacular video but based on the photo it won't be anything special.

I love the lyric video to this. I hope the music video follows the 80s theme.

I think an earlier video works in this case. They are probably hoping to jump start sales since Birthday struggled a bit. Ideally, the video will get this top 30 and then the guaranteed massive gains flying it top 10 almost immediately will stabilize or make it gain and then a great performance somewhere (not sure if available?) would do the trick.

I get the whole 'I'm tired of looking hot and like a Covergirl spokesperson in my videos', but she needs to find some balance here. She's tried different aproaches and went leftfield with Dark Horse and Birthday, but they didn't work quite well. That's one of the differences with the TD era. That era had a flawless videography, with every video having it's own unique feel. If she's going leftfield with her videos from now on, she needs to remember that she doesn't have to look ugly in a video for it to be fun or unique.

If the release was correlated with its sales/ai peak, then it might result in a higher peak on the BB Hot 100, but that's not the same thing as being a bigger hit. Its sales, streaming, and AI totals would have ended up about the same.

^ This is what I'm saying. If her vocals weren't so freaking bored on that song, it could've been better. A blasé tone feels much better than a inexpressive one, and would give more meaning to the corny lyrics, like "yeah, I live like that, whatever".
And about she wanting to criticize the party people by being "a robot made to party"... that's just plain overanalysing, it was not their intention.

This is not a highly anticipated release. It's not like they need a huge return from this anyway. It's a fifth single (and before anyone counters that with an example from TD/TD:TCC - don't. That was an anomaly.) and it could go either way. At this point, if it's as "successful" as Birthday was then no harm, no foul. And then they should opt for ending the era.
