I didn't care for her EPs too much, although Water Me was great.
The new single is really fantastic though. She reminds me of Tinashe on acid.

She's really cool and everything but I just can't get into her music.
'Two Weeks' is really phenomenal though.

Yeah, her first EP especially was a little too out there for me, but if the rest of her album sounds like Two Weeks I'll definitely be buying it.

@soblu are you asleep?
Twoish weeks in and I'm still obsessed with this. My favorites have become "Closer" and "Give Up."

I'm a #lame and I generally never listen to leaks (I caved when 4 leaked but that is between me and the Lord) so I'm not listening to it till Tuesday, I've heard it's incredible though. Two Weeks has been my shit all summer long.

She was fun to watch live but I'm never really in the mood to listen to her music.

She bores the hell out of me these days. Somehow, Twigs was more engaging when her presence existed along the periphery of her own songs. I much prefer her work on EP1 ("Hide" is her standout) as well as the absolutely devastating "Water Me."

Her comments about being labelled "alternative R&B" really bothered me. Instead of offering a valid critique of how black women are always pigeonholed into R&B or hip hop, she came off like she thought R&B music was beneath her...like girl sit.
On first listen, I like the album a lot.

Keep in mind she's not in America so the way our media sometimes attaches the R&B label based on race is not how it goes down in the UK. Case in point: in the US I've often read Emeli Sande's Celine Dionish ass being described erroneously as R&B. In the UK she's most frequently described as pop and/or soul (much like Adele). So I think FKA Twigs' resistance to being labelled "alternative R&B" has more to do with... being labelled in general. She just wants to make music and experiment in several directions. Why does it have to have a name?

She has been popping up all over the radar lately so I decided to give a listen to a couple samples and bought a physical copy of the CD, erroneously labeled as deluxe, from Newbury Comics. Well, while this is not something I could listen to every day (some of it is just a little too outre for my liking), I am overall impressed. Buried beneath the manic glitches and randomness of the production, are very distinct melodies. Plus, her voice is very nice. I read somewhere that this is the album or direction Aaliyah would be in if she were still alive. I'm not quite sure she would venture THIS far left, despite all of her proclamations of wanting to work with alt artists but yeah, from the few seconds I saw of the Two Weeks video, I instantly got Queen of the Damned. The most interesting thing about this CD to me is the fact that she worked with Paul Epworth and Emele Haynie on this album but, even reading the credits, it's hard to believe because their work here is virtually unrecognizable. It shows how much control she has over her sound, which is a good thing.

Why does it have to have a name? I feel that, and it didn't really change my opinion of her. I was just a little turned off by how she said something along the lines of "If ANYTHING my music would be punk" because at the end of the day, her music is trippy and weird and bizarre but there are enough elements of R&B that she'd land somewhere on the outskirts of the genre. It's not like she was Wynter Gordon releasing straight factory pop music and being called an R&B singer. Also pulling out an "It's because I'm mixed!!!111!!" was kinda lame.

She's not casting out R&B, ala Santigold circa 2008. Twigs is proudly influenced by the genre but she's also smart enough to resist the stultifying implications of that label in 2014. "Alternative R&B" alone sounds ridiculous and is a label I would vehemently reject if I were in her shoes.
As for Twigs claiming mixed-race identity, that's not lame. It's important to recognize self-identifiers like that one do not carry the same weight in South London or England en masse as they might certain avenues stateside. What's more is so many themes of blackness exist in her videos and her overall presentation that any effort to condemn Twigs on account of "oh, she hates herself" seems futile.

Crazy! She's one of the greatest talents out at the moment. This video reminds me of something that Janet would have done if her peak was teleported to the current era; both acts perfect the craft of making thoughtful and inventive videos with visuals and choreography that simply trump their much more basic peers.

Just discovering her/this album now, I'm blown away with her creativity and freshness even though some of the music is inaccessible. Her vocals are too high/thin/unpleasant a lot of the time but Two Weeks/Video Girl/Water Me are incredible and her overall visual presentation is flawless.
Also her performance on Jimmy Fallon of Two Weeks was EVERYTHING. She's an extraordinary performer.
