After topping iTunes last week, this is coming soon to pop radio, according to Republic Playbook.

I thought it was gonna be more upbeat... Kind of a letdown.

They said they won't release this to radio, at least that's what said that billboard article.
On the other hand, it would be absurd not take profit of something that's already popular.
I don't think this is that bad, the title could be confusing.
I have a problem with such young singers and that's i simply don't believe a word of what they are saying, but at least he chose a less walked path to start and released a ballad (a type of song that some people seems to have some phobia here)
Edit: Ok i heard the song again and frankly he sounded way better live with a guitar. It's amazing how this teen fandoms can make something so bad so successful

How does one go from singing 15 seconds snippets of songs on Vine to have a massive sales week? Who even knew this kid was putting a song out?

The reactions in the early portion of this thread are a bit much. I don't think this is breaking any new ground, but it's a perfectly fine, innocuous song that would certainly not be the worst song on the radio if it gets airplay. It's actually the kind of song I wish Justin Bieber released more often, as it is far more suited to his voice and fanbase than his lame attempts to be some sort of urban/R&B act.
"Eww" seems like a stretch for a run-of-the-mill pop ballad. (Save for the way he says "the," I also don't know that there's anything gross about his voice either)

This is the best high-energy pump-up party anthem ever! Move aside, LMFAO, the new king of the party has emerged!

"Eww" seems like a stretch for a run-of-the-mill pop ballad. (Save for the way he says "the," I also don't know that there's anything gross about his voice either) Well, i think it's a combination of factors. First a lot of people here seems to dislike ballads, no matter how good they are (in fact the quality of the ballads that find success on pop in recent months is way higher that the quality of other successful genres but they really don't care) people say they are dull or boring. On the other hand he is a 15 yo, i know my opinion is far from being universal because i'm older than most people here, but teen acts get a better reaction when they release funny uptempo songs. For an adult (and a part of the audience of pop are adults no matter how big is the preteen and teen segments of the audience) is difficult to find believable a song about love or a break up sang by a kid (wich to make things worse has the standard good looks and all around him look totally prefabricated, nothing against Shawn, i have exactly the same opinion about most teen acts on the chart). I remember the first time i heard Leave, get out by Jojo and thought it was a great pop song. Knowing she was 13 was a let down, because it makes all the meaning of the song look inmature. The first time i heard this song was an accoustic version live, and it was ok. He has a nice voice (he is not Sam Smith but he has a decent voice) and it was a good interpretation, but what make the live accoustic version ok it seems left out of the released version. Maybe it was only a bad reaction to the differences. Anyway, this is not worse that a lot of songs released by teen acts in recent times. I understand there is a market for this type of singer, and they need to take profit fast because most of them won't do a good transition to adult singers

Well, i heard the song again and change my mind again. I think it's not that bad, in fact i think it could be a grower. We'll see. The song is able to keep itself comfortably on itunes top 100 with little airplay, wich is a good start

And people complaining about the sound, but it must be a new tendency for teen acts (famous on internet) because i just heard the Troye Sivan single and it has a couple of things in common with this, is slow and heavy on percussion. I think this is going for adds soon, so we'll see the reception soon. Anyway the fact that is even climbing on itunes is a good signal

EP came out today. Already #1 on Itunes.
He released "Show You" lyric video. I like this song a whole lot more. All 4 songs on the EP are great! He reminds me of when Jesse McCartney debuted at age 15, 10 years ago.

Receiving only one add this week is not a good signal, and the song is not on itunes top 100 anymore. In fact its position is quite good given the airplay, but it seems that it will be some reluctance to play songs from this "internet famous" kids. It's curious because i find this or Happy little pill way more interesting than other teen artist songs released on more conventional ways

Given the fact that this is still near top 50 on airplay, and it's steady near top 100 on itunes, maybe it's not totally done. I'm not surprised radio is showing its reluctance to internet famous singers, but if the song shows some consistency (and this and happy little pill are showing some consistency at least in terms of sales, and the same for the eps) i think he could make it, at least a decent first hit. If nothing change there must be a tendency on getting more adds in the following weeks

I expect this to break top 50 when the chart remove recurrents and purgues today From the good bunch of interent artist only Shawn and Troye Sivan were able to sustain sales week after week (in the case of troye is really impressive given the lack of airplay, i suppose his label will start to push the song to radio because it will be a waste if they don't do it). Radio is always reluctant to play people who are discovered in less conventional ways, but this has showed some staying power, so at least i think it will be a decent hit for him

So much for "Something Big" - apparently this is now going to radio with a January 27 adds date, according to Republic Playbook.

I still think this is way better than Something big, but at least the should let something big complete its cicle (of course by 27 january maybe Something big will be out of the chart).
They totally failed when they launch Shawn's career, this song was big back then, and they even give it a video or a real push on radio (only Troye Sivan label did worse).
I know a lot of people don't like the song, but i think the song is very different from the usual teen sound and he could only benefit of that. If the label would made the effort back them i think it would become a sizable hit, at least top 20 on radio, and that could make easier to launch the following singles. Now that it's obvious that Something big is not going to make him a name, it's start all over again. People liked the song back then, and it's not impossible this rerelease to work, but they wasted a lot of time in between
