I know some songs have gotten to #1 before the album was released, but this one seems to have a good shot at going to #1 before the full album's even ANNOUNCED.
Seriously, BMLG's "two singles before the album drops" rule is stupid.

I agree that it's pretty strange for Big Machine not to release Maddie & Tae's album in November or December given how big a splash their debut single has made, but in some cases, such as Greg Bates, perhaps Big Machine was right in taking the "wait and see" approach before investing money in releasing a physical album. Greg Bates just really wasn't moving the needle and his music wasn't selling at all. I can see why his label would be afraid to waste a ton of money releasing an album that wouldn't sell well for an artist who might never get a second hit. As it turns out, Big Machine may have made the right choice for Greg Bates, since his second single "Fill in the Blank" went absolutely nowhere. That being said, I agree entirely that the Maddie & Tae record should be dropped this year. I'd be pretty surprised if their second single turned out as big as "Girl in a Country Song."

A couple weeks ago I heard this song on the radio and then the very next song was "Get Me Some Of That" by Thomas Rhett. I found it a little bit funny because M&T's song calls out TR's song!

These girls are up to #7 on Mediabase now. They were #9 on Monday's published Billboard chart but they'll be #7 there as well on the next chart.
I can't wait to get their EP next week! :)

How far do you think this will get before the freeze?

How far do you think this will get before the freeze? Honestly, I see this peaking at the beginning of December and with good timing the freeze may actually extend its chart run since songs don't get purged or sent recurrent.

I am so glad "Girl In a Country Song" is doing a lot for women in Country music!! Maddie & Tae at number 7, Carrie Underwood at number 12, and RaeLynn at number 20!!

After listening to the EP, I definitely can see these two having another hit, as long as radio is open to them. "Fly" and "Your Side of Town" both sound like good follow ups. "Your Side of Town" might be a little safer because it's more upbeat, and could keep the momentum up. It reminds me a lot of Miranda when she first came out.

"Town" reminds of Miranda while the other two trakcs "Fly" and "Sierra" both feel like Carrie Underwood's kind of song. I acutally think "Sierra" could be a big hit. I like ALL 3 of these songs better than "Girl In A Country Song."

Since then, the charts have been dominated primarily by solo female acts News to me!

Since then, the charts have been dominated primarily by solo female acts News to me! I agree. Taste of Country is so stupid for saying that. They should know that during that time period, 2006-2009, ONLY Carrie Underwood and Taylor Swift were the only females topping the charts.

Incidentally, Maddie & Tae's EP debuted at #28 on Billboard's Country Albums Chart a couple of weeks ago.
As for the song, it's now top 5 on MB.

Would it be out of the question for this one to get two weeks at #1? I know it still has a few weeks to get there (if it does, but I think it should). Upcoming are Tim, Brad, Kenny, Eric, and FGL...all of whom I *think* may be too far behind in audience to catch them after just one week. But nothing surprises me anymore.

^I'd be willing to bet that Tim McGraw will really starting gaining ground on them, and by the time GIACS peaks at #1, the gap will have dwindled down considerably. I think Keith Urban has the best chance at 2 weeks at #1 IF he and LBT split the MB and BB charts next week. If they do, and Keith only gets the BB #1, I think they'd push for a 2nd week so they can get the MB #1.

I just checked out the EP and am surprised "Boomerang" didn't make the cut and only 4 songs were put on it.

The EP sold roughly 2,700 copies first week. It debuted at #164 on the Billboard Albums chart.

It did debut at #1 on the Heatseekers chart, which combines airplay, Soundscan sales data, and streaming. No doubt the latter is what made it debut at the top.

This seems like it's been around forever, and I've moved on from the song, but that doesn't change the fact that this song is still great and I really hope it goes top 5 at least!!!
