I watched the Today Show piece. Loved it! Wow, they have a fiddle and a banjo in the band! By the sound of most of music on country radio, I thought "country" bands forgot what those instruments were. ;) ;)

We all could learn a thing or two about being sweet and respectful from these two talented and beautiful ladies.

First of all, I don't see any universe in which that constitutes "nailing his carcass to the wall," but I do agree that they came off looking better while making BK look worse. However, I kind of wish they were instead asked to respond to Maggie Rose's comment (of course, that would require her song to be relevant, which it sadly is not) that she meets girls all around the world who want to be girls in truck songs and was thus singing from their perspective. Saying "how could he know about this issue - he's a guy," while definitely true in some cases, is also such a cheap, easy, cop-out of an argument. It effectively says that Maddie and Tae are always going to have the superior perspective because they're girls, which makes it impossible for a guy to have any sort of voice on an issue pertaining to gender. Now, in this case, BK opened the door to that "shortcut" argument because he said he doesn't know any girls who want to be girls in country songs. That's a really stupid, absurd thing to say - and Maddie and Tae immediately prove it false by revealing that they KNOW him and don't want to be such girls. So it's fine here, but I also hate the broader implication that they'll always be right and dudes will always be wrong on this. And if you want to think about it logically, with all the touring he's done, BK surely knows more girls than Maddie and Tae do. Maddie and Tae can speak for themselves in a way FGL can't, but he's not totally unqualified to speak for "girls." If he has hundreds of thousands of girls saying they want to "Cruise" with him, he's sort of onto something. In any event, that's why I'd so much rather they respond to a GIRL declaring she wants to be the girl in your truck song. Then, they wouldn't have the gender cop-out and would have to engage in a more meaningful discussion about it.

I don't think it's about whether they know what girls want at all. It's more the issue of the one-dimensional characterization that seems to be prevalent. And it's very possible that BK only knows girls who want to be in a country song. :)

When you're a celebrity, you're very much surrounded by "yes" people. So it makes total and complete sense that the boys of Florida Georgia Line wouldn't know any girls who don't want to be the girl in their songs. They, like most celebrities, likely surround themselves with people who tell them what they want to hear. I'd imagine they're not used to having to deal with criticism - their response to "Girl in a Country Song" would suggest that they either totally shield themselves from or ignore any criticism that comes their way, rather than trying to learn from the constructive bits.

My favorite part of the song:
Aw nah, Conway and George Strait Never did it this way, back in the old days That ain't no way to treat a lady...

I am impressed with how consistent the updates have been for this. It just posted a 575K gain in today's update and its bullet has remained over 300 for the past few weeks. As of now, this is looking like a very strong contender for the top 10 by the end of October.

With the buzz Maddie & Tae have been getting with Girl In A Country Song, it would not surprise me if they win the C.M.A. New Artist of the Year Award.

Predicting a number one right at or close to chart freeze.

I'm glad this song is becoming a hit because something really does need to be done about "bro country."
Having said that, I really wish this would've happened to "Follow Your Arrow" instead.

This just keeps on putting up incredible numbers:
2.637 Million Audience gain on Billboard this week = highest of any song outside the top 20.
443 bullet currently on mediabase = 2nd highest of all the songs outside the top 10. (only Brad Paisley is higher)
Hopefully the momentum continues, and it keeps flying up the chart. :)

David Lettermen mentioned near the end that their new EP is available November 4th. "Girl In A Country Song" will likely be in the top 10 then.

I am thinking that Dierks Bentley and Tim McGraw go recurrent (given). The Zac Brown Band goes recurrent (maybe). Garth Brooks falls below Maddie & Tae if he does not keep his momentum. Dare I say #20 for next week? Would that be possible?

Has anyone actually counted all the references to country songs? I can't seem to get them all.

This might've been covered already in a previous post, but here's some of the references I've found: "Get Me Some Of That" by Thomas Rhett "Friday Night" by Eric Paslay "Hey Girl" by Billy Currington "Redneck Crazy" by Tyler Farr "Boys 'Round Here" by Blake Shelton "Get Your Shine On" By FGL (reference to the words "sugar" and "shaker") "Aw Nah" by Chris Young "Take A Little Ride" by Jason Aldean "That's My Kind of Night" by Luke Bryan "Country Girl" by Luke Bryan There could be more but those are the ones that stand out to me.

I'm pretty sure the "Hey baby" in GIACS is a reference to the "Hey baby" in Cruise by FGL.

^Yep, I was just going to add "Cruise" to that list. Truth is, you can take any bro-country specific song and find direct references to all of them here. Yes, there are some direct references that easily stand out ("Get Me Some of That" being the best example), but others are there if not in words alone. That was the point behind this song...to show just how ridiculous all of these songs have become.
edit: while I'm thinking about it, you can easily add Jason Aldean's "My Kinda Party" to the list. "Bottoms Up" by Brantley Gilbert. Again, this list could go on and on...

This is easily becoming my favorite country single this year. I'm really impressed with the updates it's getting, and I hope it keeps getting them. I just love the whole concept of it.
