I like it and don't much care about the message. She sounds a lot like Kristen Kelly here, and I love Kristen Kelly.

Posting this here since he accidentally posted it in the other thred: jason_Aldean: Diggin the new @iammaggierose song "girl in your truck song". It even name checks a couple of my tunes. Yall check it out. Just saw this. Very cool that it's gotten the attention of someone as big as Jason Aldean. I'd love to see this be a breakthrough hit for Maggie. I just love her so much.

LOL, I think we know which song the "bros" are choosing.
Also - does that mean the lyric *IS* "Chillin it with an ice cold beer?" I thought that at first, but the more I listen, the more it sounds like "Chillin Out."

And as you can see above, it's gotten more than just Aldean's attention it seems! :o kanimal I hear "Chillin' it" as the lyric in the song.

If I was a female artist, I'd run away from him screaming. But that's just me.)

Gotta wonder if these big artists plugging this song are doing so to try to prop it up over Maddie and Tae's song since theirs is anti bro. I don't hear any shout outs for theirs. Maybe Borchetta will hack the FGL twitter acct and give his artists song a plug. Lol.

Maybe Borchetta will hack the FGL twitter acct and give his artists song a plug. Lol. Glad you referenced Borchetta. Let's not forget Maddie and Tae are a focus project for one of the most powerful men in music. We can say that Luke Bryan, Jason Aldean and Cole Swindell only praised the song to support their buddy Dallas Davidson, and I'm sure there's some truth to that, but it's not like there are not plenty of people who we'd expect to tout a hot new BMLG release. Thus far, the "celebrity Tweets" for Truck Song came from Luke Bryan, Cole Swindell, Jason Aldean and (non-bro) Jana Kramer. The "celebrity Tweets" for Country song came from Chase Rice, RaeLynn, Mary Sarah and Megan & Liz. I'd take the Truck Song list any day of the week, but it's also worth noting that the press is overwhelmingly favoring Maddie and Tae at this point.

I definitely favor this over the Maddie & Tae song. I'm not anti-bro, so I tend to like this more. This is the first Maggie song I've really liked so far.

Maggie Rose has a credibility problem.
She has released songs in the past that have a strong female character...even murderously strong.
Now she is saying that women have a place and need to find their niche. For me, it is selling out to get airplay. It is strange but I would have expected Maggie to release "country song" and m&t to release "truck song"..
And who cares about those tweets? Just a bunch of bros (and a girl) who cant attack m&t per se, so they throw a vote towards Maggie... a vote for an "also ran". They wont have that much of an impact on sales..m&t are already top 30 on itunes..a week before add date.

Who cares? Listeners are BUYING the alternative. MR That's not really a fair comparison at this point. The M&T song is featured on the front page of iTunes Country. Maggie Rose is not. Those ads help sell downloads especially when few people have actually heard the song. Two songs that few have heard, one with an iTunes ad and other without will not sell the same. And top 30 on Country isn't exactly coming out gangbusters. It only shows the song has gotten some pre-release buzz along with being featured on the Country page. Maybe it will sell amazingly well once it starts getting more airplay, I just think at this point to say people are buying one and not the other is really, really premature.

I love songs like "Better" and "Looking Back Now," but she can't build a successful career off only doing those songs. It's hard enough to get women played on the radio even with radio friendly material, so I think this is a good single choice on her part. I don't expect her to abandon ballads or deep material just because she released this one song. And I don't believe that this song is indicative of her selling out or that she personally wants to be objectified at all.

I'm not opposed to the lyrics of this song the way some are, but our good buddy Chase Rice's praise does come off a bit ridiculous:

This is a good song! The hook is strong and the melody is stickin' in my head. Anyone who has listened to any of Maggie's songs know she is the real deal and this new cut is truly refreshing. Cannot take away from her hits like "Better" or "Looking Back Now" but I do like the feel of this one.

I really really like this song. Maggie won me over last year at a festival show. Gosh she sounded so good live. The first time I heard this song, I too was kind of stuck on how it sounded like she wanted to be "the song" and that had me scratching my head. But then I read the explanation from all the fine folks here at Pulse and I had a V8 moment. :) :) OH, she wants to be the GIRL in the "TRUCK SONG". DuH! I get it now.
I do think it is kind of odd that it is coming out right when Maddie and Tae's song is coming out. Although the messages are different, the construction of the lyrics by "name dropping" other songs or other song lyrics is very similar. But it's ok by me, I just think it's odd.
And BTW, I'm a "have my cake and eat it too" kind of gal and love Maddie and Tae's song just as much. Rooting for the women of country music!!!!

She will record strong songs (she even sang a song on the OPRY about the lack of females on the Radio but knows that such a song would KILL her career w/radio). Why compare Maddie & Tae w/Maggie at all. Different artists at different points in their career. Maggie has a legitimate case to be one of the 5 nominated females at the CMA this year (she won't but she should be).

Oh no, Maggie's been bitten by the bro-country bug! I didn't think Maggie would try to conform to what's popular right now, but here we are. This song is filled with clichés that we've heard in hundreds of songs in the past few years:
I want to be the girl in your truck song, the one that makes you sing along. Makes you wanna cruise, drink a little moonshine down, leave a couple tattoos on this town. Chillin’ out with a cold beer, yeah, hangin’ with the boys round here. Gonna take a little ride, That’s my kind of night.
Oh wait, this song is so unoriginal that she actually just named other country songs as a way of saying the exact same things that those songs originally did. At least Maddie & Tae referenced other country songs as a method of insult. This is just Maggie begging at the feet of the A-listers for acceptance.
That aside, it has decent production and light country instrumentation that both sound pretty nice. Maggie sounds alright even though the song never really gives her a chance to show off her fantastic voice. But these decent qualities get overshadowed by the beaten-to-death subject matter.
And despite all that, I still want her to see success with this for 2 reasons:
1) The state of women in country music is appalling. 2) Maggie Rose will have some masterpieces on her new album, and their release and success sadly depend on the performance of "Girl In Your Truck Song".

I don't know that Maggie Rose ever deserved credit for being some sort of original, sincere rebel. She, herself, even sent the video to "Looking Back Now" to a lame country blog that was criticizing her song (she should have just ignored the article, it was SO terrible and misinformed), but I find that song far less believable than this one. I think it's far more likely she wants to be a girl wearing sexy jeans, hanging out on a truck and at the lake than it is she would ever be threatening a man while holding whiskey and a gun. Her voice and personality is just too soft for that song to work the way "Stripes" did for Brandy Clark. Looking Back Now, which is basically a hybrid of "Before He Cheats" (even has a similar instrumental) and "Gunpowder and Lead," was just as shameless in its attempt to conform. It's just that it was conforming to something different - the "bad chick" trend that everyone from Miranda and Carrie to Sunny Sweeney is chasing. I also don't see this song, in any way, as incompatible with "I Ain't Your Mama." People mistake that song for being really sassy, but it actually involves her looking hot and, in some respects, being one of the boys. No different than "Girl in Your Truck Song." Don't agree with this at all. No, she's not belting or anything, but her voice sounds really beautiful, albeit understated, on this. The way she sings "boys round here" is just gorgeous and effortless. She also nails the delivery of "truck song" each time. All that said, I'm still skeptical about whether this will be particularly successful. You *ARE* right in your suggestion that the message is not unique, disruptive or compelling, and I do think the existence of the Maddie and Tae song HIGHLIGHTS the weakness in the content (even if, at the end of the day, I'd probably rather listen to this song than the other one, if for no other reason than Maggie's voice).

This one will not be going for adds now unless Maggie finds a new label side to deal with. RPMe closed their radio promo side today and basically said the label side was closed. Given how well she's done and that she's got some radio success behind her, another label SHOULD want to sign her but that could take a while.

We now have had two smaller labels close their doors in a few month time span. I agree that a label should want to bring her aboard to their roster but who knows; that sometimes can take a while. I do think she will find another home but I just hope it's sooner rather than later.
