So I got a thumbs up from Kurt to start this thread. I figured since there are enough of us Canadian posters here, that we ought to have a thread to discuss current Canadian Rock and Alternative singles Pipa Devin Chuckles, The Silly Piggy and whoever else wants to join in. Here are some of the current and upcoming Canadian hits And many more, just trying to get it going. I'm currently loving the return from Moist, as well as the latest from the Arkells, Hollerado, USS, and July Talk's new one is epic.

I'd include some of the more notable rock singles like "Painkiller", "Drown", "Ghosts" and "Come What May" but those are all bands that chart in the U.S. and they get their own threads anyways.

New This Week Our Lady Peace - Gone Too Far DFA 1979 - Trainwreck 1979 Mother Mother - Get Out Of The Way Extremely excited for OLP, they're my favourite band of all time. I'm intrigued to see what the public reaction to new DFA 1979 is gonna be like. I remember how popular they were in 2005. Nopt the biggest of Mother Mother fans, but I like some of their singles and I'm sure their new one will be an easy top 10 on Canada-Alt.

i check out the Canadian charts every once in awhile I highly recommend checking out the videos I posted up top to both you and Green BaronCanCon alt bands are generally more guitar-driven than alot of what you'll find on the US alt chart. Much more, shall I say, "indie-rock" as oppose to "indie-pop." Or at the very least, somewhere in the middle (when it comes to bands like Tokyo Police Club and Hollerado for example)

Thanks for starting this. Too many Canadian bands don't get known here in the States and many are certainly worthy of checking out. This thread should help me get into some new music that I may not have known about beforehand.

Apparently OLP's "Gone Too Far" premiered earlier this afternoon on The Edge. I'm gonna tune in and see if I'll hear it again shortly.

Brilliant idea, now people can read my charts without staring blankly. I suggest we do a "Throwback Thursday"-type deal and post older forgotten songs, like this one:

I suggest we do a "Throwback Thursday"-type deal and post older forgotten songs, like this one: You're so lucky it's Thursday Also, this is a fantastic song, thanks for reminding me of it. Here's a good Throwback Thursday song to celebrate the release of the new OLP single, a good old rocker from the "Naveed" album that never got released in the U.S. Side note: "Gone Too Far" was epic, I just heard it on the Edge 5 minutes ago. It's in a similar style to "As Fast As You Can" but it's a better song altogether. Very impressed, could debut in like my top 3 (Heavyweight debuted at #2 for me, and spent like 12 weeks there as it was blocked by Shinedown's "Bully")

I've been so behind on Canadian music. I love David Usher but I haven't listened to the new Moist yet. And I didn't know OLP had a new song out. I thought they were still recording. Is a new album on the way? I was quite impressed with their last 2 albums, actually. Even though their popularity has waned painfully, I'd say they're as good as they were in the 90s, definitely better than they were post-Spiritual Machines. Definitely looking forward to hearing their new one.

To be fair the new OLP single only came out yesterday haha, and Id imagine that means an album will be out in 2-3 months or so.
Side note: DFA 1979 is top 50 on Canada-Alt
0 50 DEATH FROM ABOVE 1979 Trainwreck 1979 53 0 53 0.383

I've been looking, but I've only been able to hear it on the edge so far. I think its a few days ahead of schedule because Raine Maida literally showed up randomly yesterday without notice and was like "here guys, have our new single." I wish I could make that up, but I'm dead serious.

You'd think "Jealous(I Ain't With It)" would catch fire on the US alt charts. It's a lot catchier than "Dosis and Mimosas" ever was. You even got a Patrick Dempsy lookalike in the vid.

lol it's obvious how spontaneous this single was. I've seen it titled "Gone Too Far", "Won't Back Down", and "Won't Turn Back"

Another new song this week:
Rural Alberta Advantage - Terrified
One of the more folky offerings on the chart. It's not bad.

Sounds like something that could do damage on Canada-Alt and Canada-Active. Two huge CanCon debuts on Can-Alt, including this one. 0 25 DEATH FROM ABOVE 1979 Trainwreck 1979 108 0 108 0.734 0 33 RURAL ALBERTA ADVANTAGE Terrified 84 0 84 0.072

Yeah, I'm also unsure about it. I heard it when the edge debuted it the other day but haven't given it a second listen yet.

Could this week have any more big releases? Here's One Bad Son's new one:

Since these guys are local I knew them before they were famous. This is pretty on par for the course for them.

This is probably outside you guys' interest area, but it's a nice summery song.
