I've been thinking about putting up a thread like this for a while now but am just finally getting around to it. I keep my own chart and update it once per week. I sort things by the Billboard top 60 so it's easy to figure out which songs are selling well (respective to their airplay) and which songs aren't doing quite as well.
Anyway I think this thread is a good idea for anybody who wants to discuss iTunes updates in general. For my posts I am going to post the Billboard top 60 in order followed by each song's iTunes position. If anyone else wants to post updates you can post them however you like :) I will probably just post my own list once a week or so.
Also, just an FYI, the positions reflect the iTunes country chart, not iTunes all-genre.
N/A = Not yet available on iTunes NR = available, but not ranked in the top 1500 country songs
Songs marked with *** are discounted to 69 cents.

*And obviously Florida Georgia Line's "Dirt" is #1 on iTunes right now but I didn't list it above because it wasn't in the Billboard top 60 on Monday.
Comments:
Songs like "Drunk On A Plane", "Somethin' Bad", "Bartender", and "American Kids" are just on fire. George's "I Got A Car" is basically doing as good as "Small Town Throwdown" and George is actually doing better than Eric Paslay and Cole Swindell. Who says the old guys can't sell singles? It's impressive because George's fan-base probably consists of more album-buyers than most young guns' fan-bases, so that makes George's sales even more impressive. But it's also frustrating because obviously all those other songs are going to out-peak IGAC, and not only is George selling fairly well, but his song is testing very well with listeners as well.
Some lower-charting songs that have been selling quite well...Easton Corbin's "Clockwork" is an obvious one and therefore it's fall at radio is even more frustrating. Easton's sales are pretty much on par with The Swon Brothers' half-priced "Later On" as well as Paslay's "Song About A Girl". And Easton has easily been out-selling Zac Brown Band, Parmalee, Big & Rich, and pretty much all other songs outside the top 30 other than "Roller Coaster". Brothers Osborne, Scotty McCreery, Randy Houser, and Kip Moore also have pretty strong sales per spin ratios despite fairly minimal airplay (so far). Dan + Shay and especially Gloriana and Love and Theft haven't sold very well.

Right now there are 6 country songs in the top 23 right now on the all genre chart. That's pretty impressive, it seems as if country is pretty well accepted in the mainstream today. Some of these songs are surprising me though with the lack of sales, mostly "Tatoo", "Payback", "Show You Off", and "River Bank".

Here's a new look at some iTunes positions. I jotted down their rankings last night so a couple songs may have fluctuated a spot or two since then.
Rankings reflect the iTunes country chart, not the all-genre chart
N/A = Not yet available on iTunes NR = available, but not ranked in the top 1500 country songs

And obviously "Burnin' It Down" is at #1 right now...
Other comments:
Lee Brice and Dierks Bentley have 2 of the hottest songs at both radio and retail right now and of course the new tunes from FGL, Jason, and Kenny are red hot at iTunes and climbing the airplay charts quickly as well. Lady A's "Bartender" also continues an impressive run. Meanwhile both Eric Paslay and The Swon Brothers are a bit lower down whereas the latest from Cole Swindell and Brantley Gilbert fall somewhere in the middle of the road.
As expected Luke Bryan's "Roller Coaster" is quickly rising the sales charts due to strong airplay increases. Sam Hunt has very, very strong sales for a newcomer. Frankie Ballard's "Sunshine & Whiskey" is shaping up to potentially be one of the bigger hits of the back half of summer while ZBB's "All Alright" continues to struggle a bit.
Brothers Osborne, Scotty McCreery, and Jon Pardi are among the slower-movers at radio, but the advantage they have over some of their competitors is that they are selling ahead of their airplay. The same can also be said for Randy Houser and especially Kip Moore, whose "Dirt Road" is struggling despite a very strong sales per spin ratio. RaeLynn and Maddie & Tae are off to hot starts as well and the fans are showing up for both Ben Rue and Canaan Smith as well.

After "Bottoms Up" sold so sell, I've been quite surprised that "Small Town Throwdown" hasn't been moving as much, especially with Justin and Thomas on it to gather more attention. Hard to believe it's not at least top 10.

The number that jumped out at me was the #94 position for Ben Rue. I know he's on Sony, but for a song that's at #60 and not being spun too often, that's a surprising number.

Yeah, it's up there for sure, but I suspect wedding season is playing a role in it. Still, I can't believe Arista isn't really doing anything with him...the first adds date was really only for secondary radio (I think Ben got 1 add on the main MB panel) and now they just have the song kinda floating out there. It's a very strange situation but I'm wondering if it's technically not his lead single. I mean, Sony released it right after he signed with them and before he had really even begun his radio tour. So it could be just a 'buzz' single during wedding season and maybe they come back with another song this fall or early next year that they'll actually work to radio and that will be his "lead" single. After "Bottoms Up" sold so sell, I've been quite surprised that "Small Town Throwdown" hasn't been moving as much, especially with Justin and Thomas on it to gather more attention. Hard to believe it's not at least top 10. Personally I think the song is just flat-out uninteresting...it's nothing that people haven't heard before and while I thought it might be a little bit higher, I'm not too surprised. It just doesn't seem like a song that would move the needle all that much (due to, well, it being uninteresting) even though it's got 3 artists on it. It actually reminds me quite a bit of the Jason/Luke/Eric "The Only Way I Know" situation...that one wound up going Gold but all of Jason's solo singles (other than maybe "1994") over the last few years wound up doing better than TOWIK did. So yeah, TOWIK did surpass the 500k mark in downloads but it never really blew up and "Small Town Throwdown" is kinda doing the same thing. I think songs like "Lights Of My Hometown", "17 Again", "My Baby's Guns 'N' Roses", and perhaps even "One Hell Of An Amen" are likely to be bigger sellers for Brantley.

Another update for y'all!
As per usual, the positions reflect the iTunes Country chart, not the all-genre chart

--------------------------------------------------------
Most of the big radio hits (Bartender, American Kids, Dirt, Drunk On A Plane, Burnin' It Down, etc) continue to sell very well. "Small Town Throwdown" has lukewarm sales at best, whereas "Leave The Night On" continues to move a lot of downloads; Sam Hunt looks very much like he has the potential to become a big star with cross-over appeal. Blake Shelton's "Neon Light" has really picked up this week and Frankie Ballard's "Sunshine & Whiskey" continues to sell quite well.
The Swon Brothers' "Later On" is half-price and still barely inside the top 40. Others that aren't selling very well include EYB's "Dust", ZBB's "All Alright", and Rascal Flatts' "Payback". Hunter Hayes' "Tattoo" also isn't doing very well. It's at #74 but it's also only 69 cents and he even performed it on Jimmy Kimmel last night. "Tattoo" has never gotten any higher than the 60's on this chart thus far during its radio run. Meanwhile, David Nail, Dan + Shay, and Brothers Osborne continue to have pretty good sales per spin ratios. Justin Moore is seeing relatively strong early sales with "Home Sweet Home" and Randy Houser continues to do very well with "Like A Cowboy".
Jake Owen is off to a pretty good start (the discount notwithstanding), but L&T's "Night That You'll Never Forget" continues to have one of the worst sales per spin ratios out there even after getting bumped down to 69 cents at the beginning of the week. Despite a polarizing reception at radio, RaeLynn's "God Made Girls" is doing pretty well on iTunes so far. New singles from Lee Brice (Drinking Class) and Brad Paisley (Perfect Storm) are off to great starts on the digital front as well, and Ben Rue's wedding-themed tune continues to generate a strong sales per spin ratio.

The sales for "Close Your Eyes" are much stronger than I thought they were. It's doing pretty well if I'm reading this right.

Yeah, it's moved up nicely since the last time I posted an update (on August 24, Parmalee was #62 on iTunes, now they're up to #36). I'd say they're doing pretty well now considering the amount of airplay they have. Not exceptionally well, but fairly well. I think Stoney Creek can get that song into the top 20 at radio but I don't expect it to do much beyond that.

Where do you find the sales per spin ratios jhomes? I don't have any actual ratios since I'd need SoundScan numbers to calculate them. I'm just making general observations based off the airplay chart and the iTunes chart. For example, Randy Houser is at #33 in airplay and #34 on iTunes, whereas Zac Brown Band is at #19 airplay and #61 iTunes. Randy's selling way better at 5.5 million audience impressions than "All Alright" is even though it has almost 19.5 million in Billboard audience. Thus, Randy has a way, way better sales per spin ratio. And if you compare Houser to other artists that have similar airplay numbers, he's out-selling nearly all of them. For Love and Theft, on the other hand, it's the opposite. So all I'm really doing is making general observations by comparing each song to the other songs around it.

Was "Shotgun Rider" released to iTunes yet? Or is this the one from his previous album? Ha! You're right, it's the old one. But there must be a good amount of interest in the new one because the old "Shotgun Rider" was around #1100 on iTunes when I checked back on Tuesday, and when I posted this updated it had jumped up to #368 (and it's holding fairly steady around there). Seems like there are a lot of people who didn't preview it before they bought it, haha. I don't think there will be too much of an issue with this in the future, though. On the going for adds page, it's designated as "Shotgun Rider" (2014) so I imagine that they might look at doing something similar for the individual track on iTunes. But right now it appears that it's album-only still and will probably remain that way until the album releases on the 16th.

I'm guessing lots of people bought it by mistake thinking it was the new one.

Thought I would post an update in this thread! :) * = discounted to 69 cents NR = Not Ranked (in top 1500) N/A = Not Available on iTunes Just a reminder: the iTunes position is the country iTunes chart, not the all-genre one. 02/07 Billboard Country Airplay chart:Rank | Artist - "Song Name" | iTunes | 01 | Eric Church - "Talladega" | 6 | 02 | Luke Bryan - "I See You" | 5 | 03 | Carrie Underwood - "Something In The Water" | 11, 102 | 04 | Florida Georgia Line - "Sun Daze" | 4 | 05 | Kenny Chesney - "Til It's Gone" | 45 | 06 | Thomas Rhett - "Make Me Wanna" | 3 | 07 | Randy Houser - "Like A Cowboy" | 18 | 08 | Blake Shelton f/ Ashley Monroe - "Lonely Tonight" | 2 | 09 | Jason Aldean - "Just Gettin' Started" | 9 | 10 | Brett Eldredge - "Mean To Me" | 13 | 11 | Chase Bryant - "Take It On Back" | 35 | 12 | Darius Rucker - "Homegrown Honey" | 23 | 13 | Lee Brice - "Drinking Class" | 7 | 14 | Chris Young - "Lonely Eyes" | 14 | 15 | Cole Swindell - "Ain't Worth The Whiskey" | 10 | 16 | RaeLynn - "God Made Girls" | 15 | 17 | Lady Antebellum - "Freestyle" | 76 | 18 | Jake Owen - "What We Ain't Got" | 27 | 19 | Dierks Bentley - "Say You Do" | 21 | 20 | Sam Hunt - "Take Your Time" | 1 | 21 | Tyler Farr - "A Guy Walks Into A Bar" | 17 | 22 | Kristian Bush - "Trailer Hitch" | 40 | 23 | Zac Brown Band - "Homegrown" | 8 | 24 | A Thousand Horses - "Smoke" | 30 | 25 | Easton Corbin - "Baby Be My Love Song" | 75 | 26 | Eric Paslay - "She Don't Love You" | 24 | 27 | Miranda Lambert - "Little Red Wagon" | 37 | 28 | Billy Currington - "Don't It" | 59 | 29 | Toby Keith - "Drunk Americans" | 105 | 30 | Kelsea Ballerini - "Love Me Like You Mean It" | 50 | 31 | Little Big Town - "Girl Crush" | 12 | 32 | Joe Nichols - "Hard To Be Cool" | 154 | 33 | Canaan Smith - "Love You Like That" | 25 | 34 | Josh Turner - "Lay Low" | 42 | 35 | Gloriana - "Trouble" | 287 | 36 | Garth Brooks - "Mom" | N/A | 37 | Rascal Flatts - "Riot" | 78 | 38 | Jon Pardi - "When I've Been Drinkin'" | 43 | 39 | Frankie Ballard - "Young & Crazy" | 337 | 40 | Keith Urban f/ Eric Church - "Raise 'Em Up" | 39 | 41 | Dustin Lynch - "Hell Of A Night" | 66 | 42 | Reba - "Going Out Like That" | 82 | 43 | Brantley Gilbert - "One Hell Of An Amen" | 93 | 44 | Justin Moore - "This Kind Of Town" | 195 | 45 | Mickey Guyton - "Better Than You Left Me" | 70 | 46 | The Swon Brothers - "Pray For You" | 808 | 47 | Chase Rice - "Gonna Wanna Tonight" | 61* | 48 | Rodney Atkins - "Eat, Sleep, Love You, Repeat" | 613 | 49 | Jackie Lee - "She Does" | 1134 | 50 | Kip Moore - "I'm To Blame" | N/A | 51 | Tim McGraw f/ Catherine Dunn - "Diamond Rings & Old Barstools" | 289 | 52 | Josh Dorr - "Save Your Breath" | 427 | 53 | Maddie & Tae - "Fly" | 77 | 54 | Brad Paisley - "Crushin' It" | 191 | 55 | Big & Rich - "Run Away With You" | 307 | 56 | Kenny Chesney f/ Grace Potter - "Wild Child" | 107 | 57 | Austin Webb - "All Country On You" | 812 | 58 | Sam Hunt - "House Party" | 69 | 59 | Haley & Michaels - "Just Another Love Song" | 1316 | 60 | Steven Lee Olsen - "Raised By A Good Time" | 143 |

Top 10 Recurrents:01 | Brad Paisley - "Perfect Storm" | 28 | 02 | Tim McGraw - "Shotgun Rider" | 16 | 03 | Sam Hunt - "Leave The Night On" | 20 | 04 | Keith Urban - "Somewhere In My Car" | 38, 95 | 05 | David Nail - "Kiss You Tonight" | 54 | 06 | Maddie & Tae - "Girl In A Country Song" | 31 | 07 | Blake Shelton - "Neon Light" | 26 | 08 | Little Big Town - "Day Drinking" | 51 | 09 | Dustin Lynch - "Where It's At" | 91 | 10 | Frankie Ballard - "Sunshine & Whiskey" | 49 |
Thoughts: - Lee Brice's "Drinking Class" continues to sell very well. Thomas Rhett is up to #3 now. Sam Hunt's "Take Your Time" remains #1. - Eric Paslay's "She Don't Love You" continues to sell fairly well. Poor sales for Toby Keith, Joe Nichols, and Gloriana though. Frankie Ballard's new song is off to a great start at radio but that seems odd given that no one is buying it...and it's even stranger when you look at how good artists like Jon Pardi, Dustin Lynch, and Canaan Smith are selling (especially Jon and Canaan). Josh Turner is also doing pretty good. - Really, really strong early sales for LBT. "Girl Crush" is almost in the top 10 already. Also, strong early sales for Keith/Eric, Mickey Guyton, Maddie & Tae, and Kenny's "Wild Child". - Absolutely horrible sales for The Swon Brothers. Considering how much money it probably cost Sony to promote "Later On" and the fact that it too sold extremely poorly, I'll bet the Swon Bros. aren't with Sony beyond their debut album.

Couple of observations today: 1. Burnin' It Down is still in the top 10 on Country Charts despite having peaked over 3 months ago. It's actually selling slightly better than Jason's current single Just Gettin' Started. We saw similar situations recently with Kenny Chesney and Lady Antebellum, but neither of their second singles got into the top 10 on Country charts (for iTunes). It's pretty surprising to see that song still selling so well. 2. Chace Rice's album cut Ride, which has sold well for a while despite no airplay, is suddenly up to #17 on the country chart. Anybody know if he performed it recently or if it was used in something? It is selling way better than his current single Gonna Wanna Tonight. I doubt Country radio would play such a suggestive and sexually charged song like that, but it would have been interesting to see that one get released as the 2nd single. It seems like it would have blown up digitally and socially. 3. "Don't Take The Girl" and "Fishin' In The Dark" are suddenly selling really well, especially the former which is around 30 on the charts. What's up with these two suddenly booming in sales? I know both were big hits back in the day, but still, don't expect them to suddenly make strides like they are.

I know both were big hits back in the day, but still, don't expect them to suddenly make strides like they are.iTunes often discounts songs to 69 cents. "Don't Take The Girl" and "Fishin' In The Dark" are both on sale for 69 cents right now. And actually "Burnin' It Down" is only 69 cents as well. Also, on a somewhat related note, Chase Rice has kept "Ready, Set, Roll" and "Gonna Wanna Tonight" at 69 cents for virtually the entire time they've been available on iTunes (he can probably do this since he licenses his music to Sony via his own Dack Janiels Records label). Even though those songs are only half price, I'd say it's paid off pretty well for Chase, at least in terms of exposing his music to fresh ears. I went to iTunes just now and counted 40 country songs that are on sale (69 cents) right now. Most of them are older songs that sell because a) they're cheap and b) name recognition! For example, in addition to the Tim and Nitty Gritty Dirt Band songs you named, we also have Lonestar's "Amazed" (currently #53 on the iTunes country chart), Randy Travis' "Forever And Ever, Amen", Johnny Cash's "Ring Of Fire", Alabama's "Song Of The South", Brooks & Dunn's "Boot Scootin' Boogie", John Denver's "Take Me Home, Country Roads", Diamond Rio's "Meet In The Middle", Shania Twain's "You're Still The One", George Jones' "He Stopped Loving Her Today", and Eddie Rabbitt's "I Love A Rainy Night" (among many others; again, I counted 40) all selling fairly well due to the sale-pricing (and the fact that they are awesome songs!)
I created this thread as a place for myself (and others) to post iTunes updates but I'd also like to encourage people to use this thread to alert others as to when songs are free (which happens occasionally) or when they are for sale. It can be a great way to discover (or rediscover) old favorites :)

I know both were big hits back in the day, but still, don't expect them to suddenly make strides like they are. All three of these surges are actually for the same reason: $0.69 pricing at iTunes. There is a big banner on the iTunes Country page that leads to a thirty-eight songs priced at $0.69, and that's the reason Randy Travis' "Forever & Ever Amen," Brooks & Dunn's "Boot Scootin' Boogie" and Hank, Jr.'s "Family Tradition" are also currently in the country top-100. In the case of "Burnin' It Down," it's a recent enough hit that the pricing break alone is enough to send it shooting back up the downloads chart. ETA: Oops, jhomes87 beat me to it!

Thought I would post an update in this thread...in particular because I think it's always really interesting to see how some of the lower-charting songs are selling. Unfortunately, I can only see the top 200 country songs on iTunes now--there was a site that allowed you to view the top 1500 per genre, but you have to pay to access that info now... I've sorted it by the most recent Billboard chart, with country iTunes position (from this morning) in the far right column. * = discounted to 69 cents NR = Not Ranked (in top 200) 05/02 Billboard Country Airplay chart:Rank | Artist - "Song Name" | iTunes | 01 | Sam Hunt - "Take Your Time" | 2 | 02 | Dierks Bentley - "Say You Do" | 22 | 03 | Zac Brown Band - "Homegrown" | 3 | 04 | Lee Brice - "Drinking Class" | 17 | 05 | Keith Urban f/ Eric Church - "Raise 'Em Up" | 18 | 06 | Tyler Farr - "A Guy Walks Into A Bar" | 15 | 07 | Billy Currington - "Don't It" | 9 | 08 | A Thousand Horses - "Smoke" | 8 | 09 | Florida Georgia Line - "Sippin' On Fire" | 5 | 10 | Kenny Chesney f/ Grace Potter - "Wild Child" | 20 | 11 | Tim McGraw f/ Catherine Dunn - "Diamond Rings & Old Barstools" | 33 / 53 | 12 | Easton Corbin - "Baby Be My Love Song" | 23* | 13 | Carrie Underwood - "Little Toy Guns" | 16 | 14 | Eric Paslay - "She Don't Love You" | 19 | 15 | Brad Paisley - "Crushin' It" | 37 | 16 | Kelsea Ballerini - "Love Me Like You Mean It" | 21 | 17 | Canaan Smith - "Love You Like That" | 14 | 18 | Miranda Lambert - "Little Red Wagon" | 6 | 19 | Little Big Town - "Girl Crush" | 1 | 20 | Frankie Ballard - "Young & Crazy" | 68 | 21 | Blake Shelton - "Sangria" | 4 | 22 | Brantley Gilbert - "One Hell Of An Amen" | 28 | 23 | Michael Ray - "Kiss You In The Morning" | 37 | 24 | Jason Aldean - "Tonight Looks Good On You" | 12 | 25 | Gloriana - "Trouble" | 191 | 26 | Eric Church - "Like A Wrecking Ball" | 7 | 27 | Luke Bryan - "Games" | 26 | 28 | Dustin Lynch - "Hell Of A Night" | 73 | 29 | Rascal Flatts - "Riot" | 25 | 30 | Maddie & Tae - "Fly" | 65 | 31 | Reba - "Going Out Like That" | 13 | 32 | Kip Moore - "I'm To Blame" | 63 | 33 | Chase Rice - "Gonna Wanna Tonight" | 86* | 34 | Big & Rich - "Run Away With You" | NR | 35 | Lady Antebellum - "Long Stretch Of Love" | 166 | 36 | Mickey Guyton - "Better Than You Left Me" | 72 | 37 | Eli Young Band - "Turn It On" | 118 | 38 | Dan + Shay - "Nothin' Like You" | 107 | 39 | Parmalee - "Already Callin' You Mine" | 144 | 40 | Jana Kramer - "I Got The Boy" | 31 | 41 | Kacey Musgraves - "Biscuits" | 47 | 42 | Gary Allan - "Hangover Tonight" | NR | 43 | Brothers Osborne - "Stay A Little Longer" | 102 | 44 | Thomas Rhett - "Crash And Burn" | 27 | 45 | Mo Pitney - "Country" | NR | 46 | Drake White - "It Feels Good" | 177 | 47 | George Strait - "Let It Go" | 32 | 48 | Austin Webb - "All Country On You" | NR | 49 | Old Dominion - "Break Up With Him" | 75 | 50 | Thompson Square - "Trans Am" | NR | 51 | Montgomery Gentry - "Folks Like Us" | NR | 52 | Cam - "My Mistake" | NR | 53 | Cole Swindell - "Let Me See Ya Girl" | 82 | 54 | LoCash - "I Love This Life" | 176 | 55 | Casey James - "Fall Apart" | NR | 56 | Ashley Monroe - "On To Something Good" | NR | 57 | Chase Bryant - "Little Bit Of You" | NR | 58 | Waterloo Revival - "Hit The Road" | NR | 59 | Sam Hunt - "House Party" | 42 | 60 | RaeLynn - "For A Boy" | 140 |

No surprise here, but after the Grammys, Little Big Town's "Girl Crush" is back at #1 on the iTunes country chart. Carrie's "Heartbeat" is at #2, and Sam's "Take Your Time" is #3. They were the only country songs performed on the show.
Chris Stapleton performed as part of a tribute to BB King and so a lot of Stapleton's song saw big bumps as well (and Traveller won for Best Country Album, so that also helps). A lot of Sam Hunt's songs are also seeing big bumps.
As of about an hour ago, Stapleton's "Tennessee Whiskey" had climbed back to #8, "Nobody To Blame" was at #11, and "Traveller" was at #20. For Sam, "House Party" was back up to #19 and "Leave The Night On" surged to #43. "Break Up In A Small Town" is of course still sitting in the top 5, too.
