Live Nation and Yahoo have announced the first round of artists scheduled to participate in their new live concert streaming partnership.
More than 40 acts (see full list below) are confirmed for the new channel, which will stream one live concert per day, 365 days a year. The live-streaming begins on July 15 with a Dave Matthews Band show at the Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Fla.
Other upcoming performances include a concert from KISS’ 40th anniversary tour; John Legend performing Marvin Gaye's classic album, "What's Going On,” in its entirety from the Hollywood Bowl; and Justin Timberlake playing his first-ever concert in Reykjavik, Iceland. Usher, OneRepublic, Gavin DeGraw, Common, the Neighbourhood and Daughtry have also been confirmed.
A preview of the channel’s first 30 days of concerts can be viewed at yahoo.com/live.
"Live Nation produces more than 23,000 annual shows for 60 million fans globally,” Live Nation Entertainment CEO Michael Rapino said in a statement. “With the Live Nation Channel on Yahoo we are bringing these amazing artists with great production to the 800 million monthly Yahoo fans. This channel will create a powerful new way for artists to continue to grow their global fanbase."
With the Yahoo partnership, Live Nation officially throws its hat into the ring alongside YouTube, Vevo, Vice and other music-adjacent players vying for a piece of the “upfront” advertising marketplace, valued at some $20 billion spent on top-tier sponsorships for broadcast television, cable and live events.
In addition to live-streaming concerts, the channel will feature an on-demand catalog of songs on video, as well as behind-the-scenes footage and artist interviews. As previously reported, Kellogg is the program’s first sponsor and is expected to be involved for a full-year commitment. Advertising executives familiar with Live Nation's initial sales packages said in April that the company is asking for upfront commitments in the mid-to-high seven figures.
