As we know, Dolly Parton's latest album, Blue Smoke, became her first solo top 10 album on the Billboard 200, reaching No. 6.
While she's not getting much U.S. airplay (not a surprise), she's getting some in the UK. After "Home" reached top 30 on the UK airplay chart (thanks to play at top-rated Radio 2; it had notably less spins than songs in the same vicinity on the chart), "Try" comes in at No. 39 this week. It too has notably less spins than tracks that surround it. I'm guessing it's Radio 2 again that caused the huge gain. (it had just 213 spins, but an audience of 21.9 million).
In any event, good to see a big outlet supporting her music to some degree.

She recently headlined a major music festival in the UK. So, perhaps that's part of the reason for the airplay.

Yeah not just headlined, but drew the largest crowd at Glastonbury. Her album is also doing very well here in the charts. all the press here about her recently has spawned somewhat of a revival or something for her here.

Blue Smoke/The Best of Dolly Parton has sold more than 111,000 in the UK to date- pretty decent.
In the USA, the album (not packaged with a compilation) is off both the Billboard 200 and Current Albums charts- it logged six weeks on the former and eight weeks on the latter.

It's such a great album. I wish country radio backed her and other older artists more than they do. Without them, these current hit makers wouldn't have a career!

I watched a special about her randomly. Some old dude who was in love with her was interviewing her. Fascinating. What a talented, down-to-earth, and remarkably candid woman. I have so much respect for her now.

I'm in awe of how great this is doing in the UK, as it moves up one spot to number 2 this week!
She's amazing. I think I read something about a dance record or something she's planning that is not usual Dolly, so I'm excited!

She has a song she would like to record for it "I'm a Wee Bit Gay" that's supposed to be humorous. We'll have to see what comes of it! Some of my favorite songs by her are more dance, such as "Save The Last Dance For Me" and her other pop material.

Great for the album. And, on the UK airplay chart, "Try" jumps 36-29, with an audience of 23 million- and that's just from 297 plays. The track above it has 23.3 million audience from 2,906 plays. Radio 2 its saving grace, I gather? :)

She is a pip, and enjoyable.
One of my favorite pop Dolly tracks is "Here You Come Again." And don't get me started on "Me and Little Andy." :'(

Speaking of Baby I'm Burnin' I love this extended disco version! It would be a complete dream if she does make a full-out dance record, I'm surprised she hasn't already.

We'll have to see what comes of it! Some of my favorite songs by her are more dance, such as "Save The Last Dance For Me" and her other pop material. I like this classic disco dolly song: I covered that song in my weekly column. This is what I said about Baby I'm Burnin': 7. MILESTONE TOP TEN CHART: After the success she had with Here You Come Again (chart-wise, her biggest hit), Dolly Parton continued to experiment with her songs. Such was the case 34 years ago this week when a double sided hit was #1. The a-side, I Really Got The Feeling was country enough while the b-side, Baby I'm Burning had Parton doing a 'disco country' number. Parton wanted some crossover action with her songs. She got it in 1974 when Jolene, her second #1 country hit also hit #60 pop and #44 adult contemporary. It was enough to raise eyebrows in Nashville. Her next release was the landmark I Will Always Love You, the song about her breaking up with Porter Wagoner (at least on a professional level). That #1 hit did NOT cross over. After that, Parton was well on her way to superstardom. In the meantime, she scored another ten hits. They were: 1. Please Don't Stop Loving Me-with Wagoner-1974-#1 2. Love Is Like A Butterfly-1974-#1 3. The Bargain Store-1975-#1 4. The Seeker-1975-#2 5. Say Forever You'll Be Mine-with Wagoner-1975-#5 6. We Used To-1975-#9 7. Hey, Lucky Lady-1976-#19 8. Is Forever Longer Than Always-with Wagoner-1976-#8 9. All I Can Do-1976-#3 10. Light Of A Clear Blue Morning-1977-#11 She won the C.M.A. Female Vocalist of the Year Award in 1975 and 1976. While she was on the chart with title #10, she was presented with the Cynthia Weil/Barry Mann composition, Here You Come Again. Released as the first single from the album of the same name, it spent the last five weeks at #1 on the country chart. It went to #3 in early 1978 on the pop chart while claiming a #2 placing on the A.C. chart. It became her first gold single and started her crossover era (lasted until 1985). She said at the time, "I'm not leaving country, I'm just taking it with me." The second single was a double sided hit, It's All Wrong, But It's All Right/Two Doors Down (#1 in 1978). Parton's version of Two Doors Down hit #19 pop and #12 A.C.. Two Doors Down became the ONLY top ten in Zella Lehr's career (#7 in 1978-coincidentally, on the RCA label). Getting back to Parton, it was time for a follow up album and it was called Heartbreaker. The title track was the first single and became the second biggest hit in Parton's career in October (also hitting #37 pop and #12 A.C.). That month, the C.M.A. named Parton its Entertainer of the Year. In November, the second single was released, another double sided hit called I Really Got The Feeling/Baby I'm Burning. It hit the top in January, becoming the tenth #1 hit in Parton's career. The a-side was written by Billy Vera, who would have a double #1 pop and A.C. hit in 1987 called At This Moment. Parton wrote the b-side. By itself, Baby I'm Burning hit #48 country, #25 pop, and #11 A.C.. It was the most disco sounding record of Parton's career. To further showcase Parton's choice of songs, she remade Jerry Lee Lewis' Great Balls Of Fire. That was the b-side of her #7 hit in 1979, Sweet Summer Lovin'. Starting Over Again (#1 in 1980) was written by Donna Summer, who died last year. Old Flames Can't Hold A Candle To You (#1 in 1980) was originally recorded by Joe Sun in 1978 (#14). The House Of The Rising Sun was a #1 pop hit for The Animals in 1964. This time it was a #14 hit for Parton in 1981. The Drifters' #1 pop hit from 1960, Save The Last Dance For Me got the Parton treatment in 1984 (#3). Downtown, the Petula Clark song that hit #1 pop in 1965, hit #36 for Parton in 1984. Talk about Parton being eclectic! This is what the chart looked like back then: BILLBOARD TOP TEN FOR WEEK ENDING JANUARY 20, 1979: 1. I REALLY GOT THE FEELING/BABY I'M BURNING-DOLLY PARTON-RCA 2. Why Have You Left The One You Left Me For-Crystal Gayle-United Artists 3. Your Love Had Taken Me That High-Conway Twitty-MCA 4. Every Which Way But Loose-Eddie Rabbitt-Elektra 5. The Official Historian On Shirley Jean Burrell-Statler Brother-Mercury 6. Back On My Mind Again/Santa Barbara-Ronnie Milsap-RCA 7. Come On In-Oak Ridge Boys-ABC 8. Lady Lay Down-John Conlee-ABC 9. Texas When I Die-Tanya Tucker-MCA 10. I've Done Enough Dying Today-Gatlin Brothers-Monument

Another week at No. 2 on the UK albums chart. Blue Smoke/The Best of Dolly Parton has sold more than 156,000 in that territory.

I've never heard this mix before, thanks for sharing! Maybe what they could do is something similar in the UK with Blue Smoke. Release a new album of dance tracks with remixes of her best known singles. I'd love to have this on disc!

UK radio strikes again. With just 62 spins, her cover of "Lay Your Hands on Me" enters at No. 39 on the UK airplay chart- audience of 19.1 million. The song at No. 38 had 1,639s spins. Crazy that there's such a discrepancy in spins for some songs, yet practically the same audience. On the albums chart, Blue Smoke/The Best of Dolly Parton drops 3-7, with 8,900 (176,000 to date).

That's kind of amazing considering it's a gospel re-imagining of the song and not a straight cover

NBC Developing Dolly Parton TV Movies deadline.com/2015/01/dolly-parton-tv-movies-nbc-1201351639/
NBC has signed a development deal with Dolly Parton. Under the pact, the network is planning a series of TV movies with Parton based on her “songs, stories and inspiring life.” The movies will be stand-alone. They will contain music but won’t be “musicals,” with Parton possibly appearing in them.
RelatedNBC Sets Underground Railroad Miniseries, Possible Musical Produced By Stevie Wonder Parton is a singer, actress and a songwriter. Country songs often tell stories that coould land themselves to adaptations — for instance, Fox is developing a limited series based on the Carrie Underwood song Two Black Cadillacs. Like Underwood, who brought huge ratings for NBC’s Sound of Music live musical, Parton has a big, loyal fan base that NBC no doubt would like to tap into.
Parton will develop the projects with production partner Sam Haskell of Magnolia Hill Entertainment and Warner Bros. Television. “I don’t know anyone in the world who doesn’t love Dolly Parton, and the idea of developing television movies inspired by her incredible life and the stories she has sung about for decades is exciting to all of us at NBC,” said Robert Greenblatt, Chairman, NBC Entertainment.
Greenblatt recently worked with Parton on the Broadway production of 9 To 5. (For the 9 to 5 movie, Parton earned an acting Golden Globe nomination and an Oscar songwriting nom.) “We want to create projects for NBC that are both fun and inspirational with a family audience in mind,” she said.

I know this is an old thread but does anyone have any info about Dolly's tour? For all of an hour she listed New Orleans as a tour stop on Nov 30th but then it was taken down and disappeared from all online sites. I am really really hoping it will be posted again and that they just weren't supposed to announce it so soon. I would love to go see her current tour since it seems to be promoting her album which is more of a greatest hits if I read correctly.
