Artist: Jason Aldean Single: "Burnin' It Down" Writers: Rodney Clawson, Chris Tompkins, Tyler Hubbard, Brian Kelley Label: Broken Bow Released Date: July 22nd, 2014 at 6:00 A.M. (Clear Channel Deal) Available: July 22nd, at 12:01 A.M. Source: @broadwayonair Twitter ( carriekins basically started this thread ;)) As carriekins noted in the upcoming singles thread, "Burnin' It Down" according to @broadwayonair on twitter, will have the debut of Jason's new single "Burnin' It Down" next Tuesday at 6:00 A.M. Will be another Clear Channel treatment most likely. I haven't been a Jason fan since Relentless, but I figured I do my best to keep the threads I start updated, so I don't mind. :) Chart Run: 19* - 19* - 18* - 14* - 11* - 9* - 9* - 7* - 6* - 4* - 4* - 3* - 2* - 1* - 1 - 5 - 7 (Billboard) Chart Run: 27* - 23* - 19* - 16* - 12* - 9* - 8* - 7* - 6* - 4* - 3* - 2* - 1* - 1 - 4 - 7 (Mediabase)

Also written by Brian Kelley and Tyler Hubbard. And you're welcome! :) Thank you. ;) BTW: I know it's been said before, but it seems Rodney Clawson co-writes everything these days. If not him then Shane McAnally does. :)

Dreadful list of writers. The exact opposite of the direction he should be going. I think this will be the first album he's had that I will not be purchasing if those writers are anything to go by.

Definitely different and not the typical first single that he's released for the past few albums. I think I like it though.

Perhaps Jason wants you to be a fan of his, cause the news of this new single keeps gravitating towards you. ;)

Perhaps Jason wants you to be a fan of his, cause the news of this new single keeps gravitating towards you. ;) I keep a well-informed Twitter feed. ;) That said, this is the first Aldean lead single I've tolerated right off the bat. I hesitate to say that I full-out like it, because I don't love the production nor the lyrics and it's a bit repetitive. But I really like the groove, for lack of a better word. It's definitely not what I was expecting.

This is so different from what I expected. Wow. But that said, I like it, and I'm glad he's not releasing the typical lead single for him (even though I love those).
I need to absorb this a little but I'm loving it. Very poppy, which I'm not mad about at all.

I was fortunate enough to hear it before it was taken down and I completely echo you're sentiment on first listen. The feel and instrumentation was pleasant and not what I was expecting but the production was not country to me at all and the lyrics for the most part were what I was thinking they would end up being.

This was not what I was expecting at all, but I think I like it. It's definitely a different sound for him, especially in the production. I could see this being like his "Crash My Party" (the song, if not the album).

Tyler Hubbard, Brian Kelley Oh no! Not him, too. Now I'm expecting an FGL collab on the album. :(

^But remember FGL wrote "Black Tears" on Jason's last album. In my opinion they can write very well but for some God only knows reasons, they choose to write subpar stuff. I will wait to hear this song though to judge.

I will wait to hear this song though to judge. Although I'm aware of that, that was before FGL broke through with "Cruise" and several of it's replicas. OK, "replicas" may not be the appropriate term to use in this case, but the follow-ups to "Cruise" sent country radio in a more party-centric direction than it has been and I think today's radio programmers are very insistent in keeping it that way...well, either that or becoming more like top 40 radio where the doggone internet determines today's country hits.

Gosh! I wish I coulda heard that clip before it went down. Aldean's my favroite artist out.
Can anyone give an idea of what it's like? Is it a completely new sound for him or just a tweak?

A completely new sound. I only got to hear it twice before the link was disabled, and I probably will totally disagree with this after I'm able to hear it again, but it's very poppy with a beat, not a rock production like his other lead singles have been. His voice is processed in parts, with vocal effects. His chorus on Colt Ford's Drivin' Around Song came to mind. www.youtube.com/watch?v=2KMHETUufRcNote: I reserve the right to completely disagree with myself later. ;p

Well with this tune as well as a new single from Garth set to hit radio next week, look for all sorts of mayhem on the charts, & especially @ Mediabase; next week should be a very interesting one to say the least.

The production is almost urban-pop-ish? His vocals sound great and it's really laid back. The lyrics are nothing new (burning it down = sex!) but the sound is. I will need to listen to it more but I found it pleasant on first listen - which is a first for an Aldean lead!

I enjoyed his part on "Drivin' Around Song", admittedly though, a full album of that I wouldn't like. He has an underrated voice imo. I like the rock he brings but mostly because it makes such a great contrast between slower stuff like "Water Tower" "I Don't Do Lonely Well" (going from the Night Train album specifically). Speaking to the burnin' it down meaning sex, I was wondering if y'all consider him "bro-country". I think he touched on it a couple times (especially Take a Little Ride and Only Way I Know) but never really has been someone I'd consider to be a bro-country guy like FGL and Luke Bryan.

I'm sure many will consider him to be a "bro", but I don't. I think by now pretty much every male country artist under the age of 50 has made at least 1 song that could be considered "bro" (Yes I know there are some exceptions). In Jason's case it would include "She's Country", "Big Green Tractor", "Take A Little Ride" and "My Kinda Party". But he has so much deeper material that makes him really stand out to me. "Amarillo Sky", "Why", "Church Pew Or Bar Stool", "Tattoo's On This Town", "Fly Over States", and "The Truth" are all exceptional country songs that are near the top for me. I think he has found a good line between party frat boy style songs, and more serious sounding authentic and traditional styles as well. His past two albums have been amazing, and I'm really looking forward to hearing this song and his new album. If he would have chosen pretty much any song on his album except "1994" for the 3rd single from Night Train, he would have been the one to break the record for most #1's from a album. I know Luke, FLA GA Line, and Blake have all been hot lately, but I think Jason is just as big of an A-lister as any of them.

"1994" is good to me because I like his voice, not because it's a good song, but it did get Joe Diffie a new found bit of interest which was nice. I think he's more authentic Aldean music than bro for sure, but I was just wondering what others thought. Seems the line between what's bro and what's not is hard to define and some more "favored" artists get a free pass while others get run down. Course, I'd probably be the same if bro-country REALLY bothered me, but I find it just to be good summer music, I take it for what it is "filler".

Also to those saying that Burnin' It Down is a sex reference ... I was initially thinking it might be a weed reference.

The "burnin' it down" reference = sex apparently went over my head, because that didn't occur to me. I suppose it could be that or weed; I honestly was too busy focusing on the vocals & production to even notice the lyrics, so I couldn't tell you what it means at this point.
Not going to get into deciding what label Jason belongs under, but he's my favorite country artist because I love his rock sound/production/vocals combined with what I think are top-shelf album tracks. He uses a lot of harmonies in his choruses, which hit all the emotional buttons for me. His albums rarely include throw-away tracks and his concerts are an absolute blast.
While I think I love this lead single and am thrilled with the new sound (because I do think he needed to switch it up a bit), I hope we get plenty of the sound we're accustomed to on the new album. I'd be disappointed if he strayed too far from that.
