Meh. Decent song, and I think is better than "Trippin' On Us" (I don't remember it - just that it was bad), but I just don't like this girl's sound at all. This is a straight-up pop rock song and the production is too harsh for my taste and her vocals aren't really winning me over at all (very plain, lacks personality). It's like this girl wants to be the country version of Orianthi, except she's not country at all.

This is flat out awful. Her voice isn't really my cup of tea to begin with, but there's so much production here that no vocalist could shine. I'm not sure who she's working with, but it is Dann Huff level bad. Even in a bro country world I just don't see radio giving this more than a courtesy sniff and moving on.

This is disappointing. I loved "Trippin' on Us" but this is slow and very under-produced.
I feared country music was going to cliff dive for the worst after Maggie & Tara song, and my fear came true. All these new songs being released are severely under-produced with zero bass, beat or melody. Dull and boring. Sad day for country music..

You seem to hate each and every single slow-tempo song, which is fine since it is your opinion after all, but saying that "country music has cliff dived for the worst" due to Girl In A Country Song is exaggerated and uncalled for imo. I don't like bro country but you don't seee me running around saying it has ruined country music cause I get there are people who enjoy those songs. Also, you should learn their names, it feels disrespectful to me: Maddie & Tae, not Maggie & Tara. Anyway, I'm sorry if I derailed the thread and I don't mean my post to be a personal attack on you Brian, it's just that it really rubbed me off the wrong way how you worded your opinion.

No disrespect taken. I don't hate all slow songs, just the ones with zero production, like this one or Old Dominion's that have no bass, beat or melody. On the other hand, I love Randy Houser's new single. It has bass, a beat and a melody. It just seems that once Maddie & Tae released their song, every song released since then are 100 slower boring songs then what was released before their single. Look at Florida Georgia Line or Jason Aldean, their new singles are trash and sound like they are selling out their party country sound.

I feel like it's a hot mess of pop-rock over-production. 2. The Maddie & Tae song has been out literally one week and goes for adds next week. This song and its release has absolutely nothing at all to do with their's and you act as if literally within this past week there's been some huge paradigm shift at the country genre. I don't follow. 3. I find it highly ironic to imply country music would be taking a "cliff dive for the worst" if slower songs that actually sound country were to be re-introduced to the genre.

So your saying @brian that that unknown female duo's debut single has completed changed the landscape of country music in one weeks time? I'm dumbfounded ... You think that FGL and Jason Aldean picked their new singles based on M&T's song? FGL and Jason Aldean will no longer put out up tempo songs because of what this new duo's song talks about? I'm baffled,..

Delivered to country radio this afternoonI loved "Trippin' On Us" but this is just an overproduced mess. I can't quite say how radio will react to this one considering the fact her debut only made the mid 40's and it's tough for new females to make an impact on country radio these days, but I don't feel releasing a song like this will help her cause.

You guys knew about that song in June, which gave record labels enough time to piss themselves and try and destroy real country music. Country music would lose a lot of fans when they turn back to grandpa country sounding music. People who work all day and don't spend all that time complaining on message boards actually like this music. Who cares about lyrics? I like to turn on the radio when there is something loud and sit back after a long's day work. I don't want to turn on the radio to hear some boring stupid grandpa sounding country song about life. I want country music to be about good times, and unfortunately that is now a dying breed. I hate Maddie & Tara and Maggie Rose now. They are the devils to country music.

Umm ok I understand not liking a artist but to say you hate them.... And that their the devil...... Whatever. I LOVE. Them. Look I started listening to country music in 2011 so iv been more use to the newer stuff that's been out but iv been also enjoying good classic country! You can say whatever you want but I think it's disrespectful to call classic country (old grandpa music) that is COUNTRY at its finest! It's just hard for people sometimes because country stations should be playing good classic country still but it's evolved and I think part of the problem is most people wish there was another genre like country pop radio that could play all the younger popier stuff. On this song though! I'm just not a fan really of anything she's put out! I wish I liked this because when I was having my first listen of this song that was my intent. I can't see this doing well on the charts because of the overcrowed.

Wait a second - how on earth are we pretending this is not the exact same song as Kelleigh Bannen's "Famous?"

Wait a second - how on earth are we pretending this is not the exact same song as Kelleigh Bannen's "Famous?" I caught the tail end of this song on KNIX tonight, and I immediately thought of "Famous". Granted, I only ever listened to "Famous" maybe 2-3 times, and I haven't heard all of "Shut Me Up" yet, but the last minute of the song I heard did indeed remind me of "Famous". And as a result, I'm not too inclined to go out of my way to listen to Lindsay's new one here..

Damn, looks like I missed some fun in here.
As for the song, ugh, what a disaster. I didn't care for "Trippin' On Us" but it's miles ahead of this mess. Totally overproduced.

Yeah this is basically just a rewrite of "Famous" but as one of the few who liked that song I do have to say I also like this one. Sure I like them more when I think of them as pop songs but still I do like them. I'd love to see this become a hit, I just wish a different genre would make it one. Also this sounds great while driving. Sounded perfect inbetween Ariana Grande's "Break Free" and Katy Perry's "This Is How We Do". (also nice move this week on the chart, I know there was a house cleaning but it still moved better than some songs around it.)

I actually like this quite a bit. I really like her voice and I think it has a good melody.
But I don't see this doing anything because of how it sounds. I don't think that the production does her any favors. For whatever reason, new female artists face more of a stigma of being "too pop" than new males do, and I think this is a tad too pop/contemporary in sound, namely the hook "you can't shut me up" with the word 'up' echoing over and over.
Personally, the only thing I don't like about this song is the "megaphone" lyric throughout (it seems a bit too corny to me), and then using it as the outro just sounds really awkward. But again, that's just my opinion.
Overall this is a song I find myself listening to and enjoying, but I don't expect it to do much. It's actually been without a bullet for the last 2 weeks on Billboard (despite only charting for a total of 4 weeks so far), so Stoney Creek is gonna have to find a way to get this to recover.

Official lyric Video. Even though it's a lyric video, it's not that far from a music video since Lindsay is seen singing and playing guitar throughout.
I don't see Lindsay taking off. Not that Stoney Creek isn't trying since they were able to give this song a small boost in audience last week. But it's not in the top 50 on either MB or Billboard and hasn't gotten many adds the past three weeks. Plus this song itself is just not good IMO. The production is just way too much for me and it looks like country radio isn't taken to it either. It's a shame because she's a fantastic guitarist and I enjoyed "Trippin' On Us", but I think the label made a mistake sending this song out as her second U.S single.

I'm embarrassed for the people at KNIX here...they've been playing "Shut Me Up" in light rotation pretty much since it was released, but over the last week or so they keep playing Old Dominion's song "Shut Me Up" and then saying "That was Lindsay Ell with her new song 'Shut Me Up'". I've heard them say that Old Dominion's SMU was Lindsay Ell four times now. It kind of makes me mad, too. I mean, yeah, the songs have the same title, but for these people that work in radio, it's their job to know what's what. And when casual fans like us know more about current artists and the charts than people who work in radio, then I don't know what to think. I also saw on the Mediabase AddBoard last week that one station added Brantley Gilbert's "Hell Of An Angel" from his last album. They obviously meant to add "One Hell Of An Amen" instead. Just absolutely ridiculous.

^I can imagine the awkward moment when someone in the Valory Music promotion department calls up the station to promote "One Hell of an Amen" and has to break it to the program director that he or she has been spinning the wrong song.
"Shut Me Up" has been out since August and it still hasn't even touched the Mediabase chart. Stoney Creek is really working hard to get radio to play this. I even heard Lindsay on the Bobby Bones morning show giving a life performance of this last week and even with those extra spins she still didn't debut on the final Mediabase chart. I don't see this single lasting through the end of the year. I personally felt "Trippin' on Us" sounded like more of a hit and after two singles that didn't take off I'm afraid Lindsay may end up on the shelf with several other Broken Bow artists.

This one is done. It lost almost all of its audience (more than 1 million impressions) and fell from 51-60 on tonight's BB chart.
Maybe now KNIX will quit playing Old Dominion's "Shut Me Up", which is New & Active with 324k in audience...

Sad it's done. I LOVE the melody, her voice, and the production. It's perfect. I love Lindsay.

Not surprised at all to see this flopped as well. Both her singles have been extremely weak. I'm sure BBR with stick with her for a bit longer though and hopefully get her some good songs to promote her.
