I'd love to have an album version of "The Call" too, but if we only get one Garth/Trisha duet, I'd rather it be something different, since I think that "The Call" has probably seen all of the success that it's going to. I'm so loooking forward to this new album - probably more than I have ever anticipated a Garth album before.

I'm here for a Mumford & Sons vibe and absence of bro-country material and those veteran session players. But I would love a studio version of The Call. I think it's their best duet to date.

Well, the talk of the town is that not only is Garth doing his solo record and Trisha is tracking for her next solo record "Prizefighter" right now; they have mentioned also recording a duets album together as well. So there MAY be three records that come out. Only time will tell, but that was supposed to be in the works. IF that's the case then "The Call" could very well be on ONE of those records.

So if I am remembering correctly and if noting has changed then this is coming out this week. I am really excited to hear it. I am ready to have Garth on the radio again!

Y'all can agree with this if you want, but I must be the only one who is not excited for Garth's return. I don't hate him; he was a big part of my childhood and inescapable during most of the 90s, but I'm not expecting him to see monstrous success again. More than a whole lot has changed since then.

I think the first single will be a success, but he might have to adopt some modern elements into his new music to stay popular with modern radio.

Anybody know what time today this hits radio? Tomorrow at 7 am. Correct! And to clarify, it's 7 eastern, 6 central. "People Loving People" got 9 adds on Mediabase today already. I'm assuming that no stations have heard it yet because if Garth and RCA had let it out a couple days early, there's no way stations would be able to hold off on playing it. My interpretation is that they'll all get it digitally at 7am and no sooner, but 9 stations decided to report adds without even hearing the song yet, because they know they're gonna play it tomorrow no matter what.

I hope this is awesome (though I imagine it'll be a hit regardless). Definitely looking forward to this tomorrow morning (and since it's 7 eastern, I may be able to listen to it before I leave for work ).

That's from KMLE Phoenix's Facebook page. They're the CBS station here.

Well I just listened to it for the first time and I'm really not sure what to think. I could barely make out what any of the words were during the verses, and his voice sounded rather thin on the chorus.
I like Garth and I really want to root for him, but I'm rather disappointed in this after my first listen. Maybe I'll get a better feel for it after a few more listens, though..

I realize he's aged but his voice on this record sounds strange. It seems strained and thinner. Not what I was expecting from him.

His voice is definitely not corrected to the extent we're used to hearing on the radio. Almost as if it was recorded in one take to capture the raw emotion(?).
For a "message" song, he is extremely difficult to understand in the verses. Has anyone transcribed this yet? Overall I'm disappointed.
As for his new/updated sound on this single, it appears that 1999 Chris Gaines has morphed into 2014 Garth Brooks. Kind of full circle.

Kinda hope this is more Garth knowing his first song back will be a hit and him saving better material for the next releases. It's not bad, just nothing like what I'd expect for a return from one of, if not, the biggest country artist living.

The song sounds like "We Shall Be Free (Part 2)" which is probably not most people expected for his comeback song. I can hear the "changing evil" part of the song but this doesn't sound like Garth at all. I was expecting an uptempo song than something like "We Shall Be Free".

Yeah this song isn't very good. It doesn't sound country at all, and it is really corny. I can't see this getting top 5 airplay on the country charts, I just can't. I'll pass on the rest of Garth's new music after hearing this.

For a "message" song, he is extremely difficult to understand in the verses. Has anyone transcribed this yet? Doctor, you ain't got a pill For whatever's making this world ill You can't get forgiveness at the store And peace, it's a politician's war You won't find no resolution in the bottom of a bottle In the stars or Aristotle The only answer to the problem is
People loving people That's the enemy of everything that's evil Ain't no quick fix at the end of a needle It's just people loving people
Words aren't what they seem to be Talk is cheap and lies are free We fear what we don't understand And we've been scared since time began All the colors and the cultures Circle 'round us on a spindle It'd a complicated riddle But the solution is so simple
It's people loving people That's the enemy of everything that's evil Ain't no quick fix at the end of a needle It's just people loving people
You can pawn it off on kings and queens And those behind the curtain Say one can't make a difference In a world so full of hurting But I believe the remedy Starts right here with you and me
People loving people That's the enemy of everything that's evil Ain't no quick fix at the end of a needle It's just people loving people It's just people loving people It's just people loving people

I'll pass on the rest of Garth's new music after hearing this. There's a strong possibility of this being top 5 after this week. It will climb the unconventional way. Most reporting stations will play this at least every other hour and many will be playing it every hour. Refer back to "More Than A Memory."

I like this. The writing is very good in certain places and his vocals are honest. Subject-wise it will either be your cup of tea or it won't. I happen to agree with the sentiment of this song so it speaks to me on some level.
However, for me, where this suffers is sonically. It was recorded poorly and mixed even worse. His vocals are buried and the track just lies there. I get that he wanted to keep his team that was with him at the start - that's an admirable quality that is rare. However, it just sounds old and cloudy.
It will be interesting to see how radio reacts to this. Are they cool with being played by Garth? Or have they had enough of him thinking he's king of the world? Also, I wouldn't be surprised if there is some backdoor wrangling to stifle this by Scott Borchetta and his crew since Garth took his toys to Sony. Two egos that big will try crap like that.

I had a hard time understanding the words on first listen, and I'm generally underwhelmed. Not a fan of this for now.

I have to disagree with most of you. The song is fantastic and I'd take this any day over another "climb up in my truck girl, crack open a brewsky and let's ride around looking for other awesome people to hang out with". Is it his best? No, definitely not another "Memory". But it makes sense that he would change the lead single last minute in light of all that's happening in the U.S. and abroad.
Being a professional mix engineer, I do agree with the sentiment regarding the mix being off. Musically, there is a lot going on and the playing is top notch. But the final mix does take away from the actual song. I think that is what is going to turn people off at first. And knowing Garth (not personally), he isn't much for perfecting things. I'd say this song was probably recorded in 2-3 takes including vocals. Call it lazy or imperfect, but mistakes are what give music real life.
