The reality show is such a double-edged sword for her. It has been the best promotional vehicle for her; and she has used it brilliantly. She's like VH1's little black "it" girl. But it also has worked against her because radio doesn't take her seriously, and through the 6 degrees of separation, she has gotten on the bad side of a lot of her peers. I'm sure it's frustrating though, because she is one of the harder-working R&B singers currently out, but she still can't break away from what made her relevant to begin with. This. She has done everything she can with the platform she's been given, but it's not exactly one that is conducive to a long term career. And the fact that she's best known from being a regular on the contemporary version of Flavor of Love seems like it will hinder her from accessing traditional promo spots for up and coming singers. Her career is in a weird position because she straddles the line between being a respected, former hoodrat singer-songwriter bringing back "real R&B" and being a loudmouth, combative thot who is better known for industry antics.

Just in case there was still speculation about the inspiration for AWBAH, from the liner notes:

Damn, how'd I skip that?!!
She has so much potential to be on more talk shows, performances. That Rachet Ness isn't going to turn down anytime soon.

Yeah, I bought the CD and I always read liner notes so I noticed that Idris mention right away. I thought this was old news though? What ISN'T old news to me, however, is the Ryan Lochte thing so I had to go do some research. Damn!

Yeah. She teased a clip of "God I Get It" coming soon for 2015 a few weeks ago. The more I listen to this album, the more I love it! The reality show is such a double-edged sword for her. It has been the best promotional vehicle for her; and she has used it brilliantly. She's like VH1's little black "it" girl. I'm sure it's frustrating though, because she is one of the harder-working R&B singers currently out, but she still can't break away from what made her relevant to begin with. I agree with this to an extent, but ultimately if she had never done the show, her career would never have taken off to the point that she could even be putting out albums, so the limitations that it has brought really pale in comparison. Also, I don't think it's fair to say she's gotten on people's bad side because of being associated with the show; she has directly gotten on people's bad side by being abrasive and all around ratchet.

Yes, that's why I specified "isn't old news to ME" because this tidbit somehow escaped me. Next thing you know, pics of her and Beiber will pop up. She says she and Lochte were just friends but they prob smashed. #jeah!

The reality show definitely launched her career, but on the flip side it makes it hard for people to take her seriously (granted, her behavior on these shows and during interviews, on instagram etc. fuels that fire). She really needs to start establishing herself as a serious artist. I hope that's part of her overall plan, because these reality shows can only last so long. Regardless of her antics, I still find her far more tolerable than Tamar, ugh. Who is pretty much a hideous person on EVERY level. At least K. is funny.
K. is the real f**king deal. So talented. Way too talented to be relegated to a C-List reality show diva. This album really is a revelation... vocally, the production choices, melodically, lyrically, it just feels fresh and new to me, even though there's nothing particularly original about it. Hell, even the art direction shows she's a step above her peers.
I know she said she's moving to the UK for a bit to establish herself there, that should be interesting... if it ever happens.

What about the tour with Keyshia? She saw her album sales and realized she didn't need her.

Has the whole "Keyshia going to jail" thing blown over yet? Maybe that had something to do with it.

Well they were supposed to be touring together this month....which is probably why K's tour was set to start in Feb. But since Keyshia Myeshia is in idontgiveafuckaboutmycareerormylifeselfdestruct mode, I can see why it didn't happen.

Wait, "God I Get It" was supposed to be a duet w/ a country artist? Interesting. Every time I listen to that song I kept thinking the guitars and the melody reminded me a lot of a country song, so I guess I see where that came from now.

Problem is after two albums she's performing in the same exact venues she's been performing in since before she had any album out period. She's always going to have some locals that go out and cop her album but from here idk where she could go. By the time 2016 Grammys come around I'm sure the project will be almost forgotten

Ehh. I mean that's no different than any other moderately known R&B act. It's not like she's accomplished enough at this point to be headlining in major arenas on her own. She toured with R. Kelly and Robin Thicke in some pretty big venues during the last album's run before touring by herself and selling out most of her shows in smaller settings.

She's playing the same venues as other R&B females at her level (Fantasia, Brandy, Tamar, Keyshia, etc.). I don't see the issue. She's certainly not gonna pull in touring numbers like Mary, Beyonce or Alicia. But they had the benefit of being established acts with crossover success before R&B went down the sh*tter at radio. And given the current climate, she really doesn't have a chance in hell of ever getting to that level. Unless there's some huge renaissance of Urban/R&B music in the near future (FINGERS CROSSED).
I hope she comes to Pittsburgh, she canceled her show here last time. I don't wanna drive to Cincinnati... ugh. And I need to see those saddlebag hips in person!

Wasn't saying it was a bad thing, I'm just saying that K has said repeatedly during press pre album that she wanted her fanbase to grow and she's not going to be the bitter black chick....she talked about working songs at country radio and rock....when I listen to GIGI I clearly hear subtle country elements but by no means do I see Atlantic being able to work it unless it has a big country singer on it(which was supposed to happen). Her UK single having been written by Rock City was clearly a stab at again expanding her audience but when I hear it I don't see expand I see maintain. I love K and want her to do well and accomplish all she sets out to but again the album while good certainly is not the snatching wigs album that I feel can take her to new heights...if it does I'll be incredibly happy for her

The country FEATURE is happening in a form of a remix for the single release. "God I Get It" and "Miss You Goodbye" are the two singles she spoke about on twitter that would be released at the top of the year. On twitter, a fan asked her about the country feature and she said it's still happening in the form of a remix. So they REALLY are gonna try to work "God I Get It" to country and plus she plans on stretching this era too because these won't be the ONLY two singles we get from her this year.

Where is this release for the single though? I haven't seen an adds date or anything.
She dropped 2 music videos for songs she doesn't even want to go to radio, wth?
