Funny we haven't heard anything about them releasing new music right now but they have been with Blaster for a little while here. It's good to see them back with a new official single (not that "Summer Is Here" thing they had a couple months back). I don't expect this to do much (even though I haven't heard it) due to radio not supporting their recent singles outside of "Where I Come From" and the fact they are now on Blaster who has yet get a song into the top 30. Even when they were still on Columbia they were struggling with lead single attempts in 2009-2010. Hopefully this will be the MG material I loved like the stuff that was on their My Town and You Do Your Thing albums.

"Headlights" will officially impact radio on August 18. SourceI personally feel that MG's music took a sharp turn for the worst about 5-6 years ago and I really wasn't too surprised that they lost their place at radio (and at Sony). That said, I've always enjoyed most of their bigger hits, so I'm definitely curious to hear this one. I hope it's a good song and not similar to their most recent batch of singles.

So excited for new Montgomery Gentry music! I wish their music was more popular like the 2000's. Hope "Headlights" helps their career!

Here's 1:35 of the song. m.soundcloud.com/blaster-records/mgheadlightspreviewI don't know where to find the full version...but it's not bad at all. I despise the "summertime-naked" line, but besides that, I like it. Troy sounds great; not their best work, but if they want to get played by radio, this is the kind of song they needed to release.

Delivered to country radio this morning. There's a radio edit to the song as well.

I thought that Montgomery Gentry was on the same label as Colt Ford (Average Joe's)

not their best work, but if they want to get played by radio, this is the kind of song they needed to release. I haven't heard it yet , but this quote genuinely scares me. Certainly they have to realize their chances of any substantial radio play is next to nothing. Why not just return to actually making good music again?

^ This is pretty much what they did in 2011. Took time off, released a radio friendly single, and it went top 10.

I think they sound great on this song and hope it gets them back in the top 10 on radio. I love MG.
But here's the deal. This song is as bro-country as a lot of other bro-country songs that have been bashed here on PMBC. Does MG get a free pass?

^ This is pretty much what they did in 2011. Took time off, released a radio friendly single, and it went top 10. Which was followed up by #45 peaking song. Three years later and the musical landscape has degenerated even more. Stranger things have happened but I just dont see them even sniffing the top ten again.

Remember their on Blaster records who have yet to get a song to the top 30. "Where I Come From" I think was just a unique scenario of the planets aligning. It took forever for that song to reach it's top 10 peak and at any point could have ran out of gas. This could end up doing something similar but I feel that MG won't be garnering anymore hits at country radio. I do hope I'm wrong though because their fall off was so sharp and I miss the days they were staples on the charts.

^ thanks.
Troy sings the absolute hell out of this song, and I do like it, considering a 4 year old could have wrote the song. Lame lyrics, but the production/vocals are very good.

The way the guys' bro'ed up songs are going these days, I am extremely relieved that the headlights in question turn out to be on the car.

Bummer. I'm really disappointed in this one. The chorus is so loud and over-produced...Troy really sounds like he's screaming just to be heard over the loud guitars and wall of sound. The lyrics aren't that good either. Maybe this will grow on me a bit (I've always liked MG), but for now I see this being a station-changer. Hopefully some of the other new songs from their upcoming Blaster debut will better suit my tastes.

I'm a big MG fan but this is pretty generic. Nothing new, same old same old.

Writers are Wendell Mobley, Bob DiPiero, and Tony Martin. Source

"Headlights" is the winning song for Montgomery Gentry because I think it is really a good song and wouldn't be considered "Bro Country".

Does anyone think this song has a chance of charting? I hope it can get at least top thirty

Does anyone think this song has a chance of charting? I hope it can get at least top thirty Oh I definitely think it can chart. I just question if it can become a hit, which to me would be a top 20 single. Blaster hasn't gotten a single to the top 30 yet, so until I see it, I'll stay a bit pessimistic about it's chances. Though you could have said a similar thing about Average Joe's and MG got a top 10 single with them - though I still think that was an anomaly. Their name recognition will once again be their biggest ally.

Pretty nice number of adds on impact day for MG with 34 on MB. I still need to see Blaster get a hit before I'm going to predict one, but 34 is a pretty solid start if you ask me.

I haven't listened to this yet but I think if Blaster has any chance at getting a top 20 hit this should do it. MG have a good history with radio and they still have a good size fanbase that they can tap into.
I've always liked them so for me I'm hoping the song is good and I'd like to see them score another hit.

I haven't heard the full version yet but after a minute and 35 seconds of it then I'm fine with that. Not a fan of this one for MG, borderline typical "bro" references. They need to get back to recording GOOD music again like "My Town" and "Gone" (oh wait, that was 10 years ago or more.... when GOOD music was still being recorded). I'm also a little surprised to see Wendell Mobley, Bob DiPiero and Tony Martin's names on this one too... not their typical style of song to write.

Eddie and Troy were back in the studio with producer Michael Knox. They are almost done with their new studio album and first for Blaster Records. Depending on how "Headlights" performs, it's expected out in early 2015. "Headlights" will be available to iTunes on September 2nd. Source

I usually do not comment on songs; but this new goodie got me hooked from the beginning; and I have been listening to it non-stop over the past couple of days. This track is energy charged and the guitars are really loud! :) Agreed, not the standard country song. I love it, nonetheless. Cannot really second the remarks on Bro-C; and this song is as good as the ones referred to above. IMO, of course. Do hope that it goes Top 10 :); a #1 would be tremendous but unlikely with Winter approaching and most likely more smoothly fare preferred by radio nearing Christmas.

Personally, ever since I learned about Troy Gentry's bear incident, I have never been able to get back into Montgomery Gentry. To me that just showed what a coward he really is, and says a lot about his character. Kind of similar to how I always root against Mike Vick in the NFL (although that was a far worse situation). I personally wouldn't mind seeing this song flop because of that reason, it's just hard for me to root for these guys anymore, and it's a shame because they have some good songs in their catalog.

Pretty strong debut for MG considering they are on Blaster Records. Debuts at #52 on Billboard with an increase of over 500k in audience after 34 adds on MB last week. Perhaps country radio isn't quite ready to move on yet from their music.
