What are some songs that you think sound better when the curse words are substituted (or excluded).
For me:
Payphone - Maroon 5
I bought the clean version, because at the time, my parents didn't like me buying songs with curse words (they're ok with it now, as long as I don't say them (which I don't, expect when I'm on this forum but they don't know that mhaha even f**king though I really f**king try to keep f**king curse words to a f**king minimum, besides this f**king sentence, because why f**king not?)). And I just realized today that the chorus had 2 curse words in it. They seem unnessicary, and the chorus sounds better when they're replaced.
Thrift Shop - Mackelmore & Ryan Lewis
I prefer the sound of the replacements for all of the words (expect the one in the chorus).
Those are the ones that come off the top of my head.

Payphone (and the no-rap version as well!) Forget You Don't (I like the sound of the don't phhh with my love! :) ) Beez In the Trap Perfect Your Body (I hate the way the chorus sounds in the explicit version )

I actually prefer the explicit version of "Payphone".

Hollaback Girl
Uh-huh this my *TWEEEEEE* all you girls stomp your feet like this
And the monkey noises in This *OOHOOH* is bananas! B A N A N A S!
Gives the song a certain charm that it wouldn't have otherwise.

The swearing in the hook gives the song bite, and actually adds to that whole sort of frustrated/world weary lyricism which juxtaposes with the sweet as pie melody and stops the whole thing from being saccharine. It's toothless without it.

I can definitely agree with "Get Low". The explicit version just sounds... odd to say the least.

Black Eyed Peas - Let's Get It Started (I had an issue with the original word that they replaced) Dr. Dre feat. Snoop Dogg & Devin The Dude - F*** You (the chorus sounds weird with the word 'f***' being sung as fuh-uhhhh-khhh) Mariah Carey feat. Miguel - #Beautiful (the profanity was unnecessary here) Ma$e - All I Ever Wanted (see above) That was one of the first ones that came to my mind. Don't (I like the sound of the don't phhh with my love! :) ) Has the explicit version of that surfaced?

Britney Spears "3". I love the melody of "this" instead of "sin" in the pre-chorus in the censored version.

Lil Jon & The East Side Boyz - Get Low Ah, yes, I forgot about this one. This one I wish there was a version of both together. For example, I love the line "To the sweat drip down my balls," but I prefer the version with "skeet" repeated over and over instead of "motherfucker" and "God damn." So, yeah, basically a version that was this: From the window to the walls To the sweat drip down my balls All these females crawl To all skeet skeet skeet skeet skeet skeet All skeet skeet I got, I got what To all skeet skeet skeet skeet skeet skeet All skeet skeet I got, I got what

The Black Eyed Peas' "Let's Get It Started" is the only one I can think of because "Let's Get Retarded" was a ridiculous awful thing to sing. The clean version was still a shit song, but not as horrible.
Otherwise, I don't think I've ever preferred a clean version.

Don't (I like the sound of the don't phhh with my love! :) ) Has the explicit version of that surfaced? Probably an international version because he can get away with swearing anywhere else

I can't think of any right now, but Country music has a history of censoring songs that never needed to be censored, and thus dumbing them down.
I think the explicit version of "Payphone" is miles better than the edited one, and "Your Body" has no bite, whereas "f**k Your Body" has much different connotation, which, IMO, gives it needed that " bite."

I usually prefer the radio versions to a lot of the hip hop songs from the late 1990s and early 2000s. Rappers would re-record the lyrics as opposed to using other editing methods such as silencing and backmasking.
Some examples:
Nelly - "Country Grammar" Juvenile - "Back That Thang Up" Mystikal - "Shake It Fast" Jay-Z - "Can I Get A..."
Lil' Jon's "Get Low" is a case where I prefer the clean album version over the radio edit (shortened and extended) in addition to the explicit version. It's the same as the explicit, just with the profanities silenced.
Fast forward:
Cee Lo Green - "Eff You" or "Forget You" Drake - "Best I Ever Had" Maroon 5 - "Payphone" (w/rap) Trey Songz - "Heart Attack" and "2 Reasons"

I'll second "2 Reasons".
"Ladies and the drinks" just flows better than "Bitches and the drinks".

I personally love hearing all the "bleeps" in Big Sean's "Ass" feat. Nicki Minaj
