Discounted to $0.69 on iTunes for a limited time. Looks like they're starting early on this.

I would love for this to smash in the future. It's an amazing song and I loved it the first time I heard it. "Numb" does need to be released eventually as well. I wish it was $0.69 when I bought it lol.

This is awful. They should have released Teacher.

They're backtracking to this? I loved it when it first came out but it doesn't make sense to push it to radio at this point.

This is not a hit in any way, shape or form. Terrible idea to backtrack.
I don't think there are any huge hits left on this album, but there are songs that would perform better. Namely "Numb" and "Teacher."

Sorry but don't agree. First the song is not bad by any means, in fact it has a very interesting sound. It's not what you expect of a pop singer and it could fail, but if he really wants a long career a risk from time to time is needed.
And who is going to think that a song like Take me to church it would be a hit? Releasing formulaic could make you have a hit after a hit but unless you reach a certain status (like some pop divas) on single fail and you are toast.
It's not like Chains was released to radio before, they released the song to itunes when it did quite well and the video, but when they decided the first single to radio they went with Jealous.
And by the way, i don't like Teacher at all (maybe it's a grower, but i heard the song a couple of times and i don't find nothing special on it)

And of course if the reaction to Chains is not good they can switch to another single

Confirmed as the next single. Impacts January 20, according to Republic Playbook.

Bad decision. I like it, but it's burned on me a lot and it's probably too polarizing for a second single.
"Teacher" really was the safest option.

You can't build a career based only in safe choices.
I don't think it will be as huge as Jealous but probably it will do well, and it's a good song for winter.

You can start by making safe choices, then make riskier ones as you go. But who knows? This could pay off for him! I like the song, so I hope it does well.

You can't build a career based only in safe choices. Well, you can't build a career on nonsensical choices either. You keep talking about risk taking, but releasing a weak song as a single is only a risk because it's a bad decision. That's different than taking a risk on releasing a song because it's so good that it can transcend radio trends and become a hit in spite of not being radio friendly. That is not the case with this song IMO. And given that he's launching his solo career years after the Jo Bro's peak, with a whole new sound and an entirely new image. I'd say his risk taking is nearing it's threshold, he needs to play it smart as well. But clearly we disagree on the quality of this song, so agree to disagree I guess.

Yes, it's obvious we disagree about the song. The music market is way more unpredictable that people want to recognize. When All about that bass was released most people thought (me included) it was a weaker version of Mercy, and it terms of quality is a weaker version of Mercy, but it got a success that Mercy never had (in the USA, of course). I could undertand someone like Sam Smith not taking risks at first because he is not a marketable singer, but in Nick Jonas is almost the opposite, if he goes only for safe choices he is taking the risk of being took as another prefabricated singer (and being a teen star doesn't help either). He needed a hit single, and he got it. He made a really good promo. Now he has to offer a different sound on his songs. To be honest, with social media and internet, the risk of not surviving a flop are way less than in the past. It's true that not everyone is Rihanna who can have a good bunch of flops and always surviving without a problem, but Nick is looking his place as singer songwriter, so playing the safest choices is not the best for him in my opinion. Anyway, if this flops he can release another song soon

I think they are going to go with a 'riskier' single after "Chains", that is if he will be getting another single. Sadly, I don't think any of the singles are really going to help sell the album, no matter how massive their airplay and single sales are. Even the single sales will probably be on the low side. I worry that they will tack on a random rapper to "Chains" to give it Urban appeal and to possibly get some more sales out of it, but a song of this nature really doesn't need it.

I love this song but that video is laughable and totally random in the bad way. Well, Jealous video is as random as this (If not more). It was fast, i wasn't expecting this to enter the chart so soon and with Jealous still getting positive updates (i know i say that it hadn't a chance at number one but right now it's not so clear). Anyway it's a good sign

I didn't realize this was already getting airplay! Nick looks to have another hit on his hands.

This is really great. Much more interesting than "Jealous" and I prefer it tbh. Think he has another good-sized hit on his hands! Perhaps there'll be a remix with 2 Chainz to help the song out? Ok I'll stop.

Video is really cool. I love floating special effects and stuff. I would have picked a hotter chick to be in it tho...
