^ One may get away but for 1D it's been more like a herd! I honestly don't think their record label cares all that much about radio. 1D is one of the few acts that can sell a million+ albums and sell out stadiums based on their names alone. As long as that formula works, great. But how long can their label avoid getting serious with radio before it bites them in the ass? I know I was just naming an absolute SMASH from each album they missed out on. And they should take it more seriously, if they want the most profit out of them, radio is a key part of making money, and you can't rely on name forever... as some acts have already shown us. So they better get their s**t together if they want longevity. Also, I would imagine that when their contracts end, they won't be signing another and they'll probably go solo, what do you guys think? I mean, there's no way they will last too much longer, and I feel like it's time for them to stop touring and recording nonstop, take a deserved break, and try to make it as solo artists. Actually it came out last week they are in the process of extending their contract for at least 2 more studio albums after the current one is finished. www.cambio.com/2014/11/04/one-direction-extending-contract-for-two-more-albums/www.mtv.com/news/1987902/one-direction-taking-a-break/

If I'm being honest, and this is coming from a huge fan of them, there's no way all 5 of them will make it as solo artists. I could see Harry making it because he's the one people seem to actually know about. Maybe one of the other 4 could as well but that'd be no more than a fluke. Unless they decided to do behind the scenes work or something, I'm not so sure they'd find success with a solo career.

Like I said in the above post they aren't planning on taking a break and going to sign on for even more albums. But now let's think about 1D when they are in their 30s. Sure they could still be touring and recording on a smaller scale like the Backstreet Boys are. Or they could pull a NKOTB, take off a decade and then come back. Or they could pull an NSync and be gone for good. No not all 5 will make it solo. Look at Joey Fatone, he is the now the proud off camera announcer of Family Feud...didn't he take part in an album that sold 2.3 Millon in one week and sell out 5 nights at the old Giants Stadium just 15 or so years ago? Now that is a mighty big fall.

^You can legally listen to "Where Do Broken Hearts Go" as they released it to ITunes today. "Ready to Run" was legally released on ITunes" last week. I know, but I haven't preordered their album from iTunes because I wanna buy the actual CD, and I'm worried that if I go on YouTube to listen to them I'll find a super low quality version of the songs and it will make me not enjoy the songs as much listening to them next week when I know how they actually sound and not some crap recordings.

Like we all know 1D isn't going to be around forever even though I'd love it if they turned out to be this generation's Beatles, so regardless it'll be interesting following their careers after 1D aren't as popular anymore. I could definitely see them going the BSB route honestly.

I pray to GOD that they don't stick around forever. Sorry, but one day it will be old, and I will want to hear someone break from their management shell and become a star! And that's cool! I just hope they can keep a good sound going over the next few albums, but once that contract is up... I think they should call it splits tbh. I know not all 5 of them can't be successful (especially not Louis ) I just want to see how it would turn out. My money isn't on Harry, but it's on Liam and Zayn. Liam is a great talent for both singing and writing. Zayn could go the Pop/R&B route! Niall isn't a longshot either, as he's talented at playing guitar and his voice is good. I could see Louis being a songwriter, but not a solo star. And Harry is just so... boring compared to the others when it comes to his talent as one person rather than any 3/4 of the others in the group.

I think Harry would be successful in acting more than music. I don't know why, I could just see him surprising everyone in a big movie role. Liam and Zayn I could easily see being successful in solo music. Louis, I think he could do well in Comedy acting, maybe doing improv. Game show host maybe? Or an entertainment host on TV. Niall, he could be a breakout Irish Country superstar, lol! Actually I could see him being the lead of a band to an older version of 5SOS type music.
Personally I hope they go the BSB route and still are together 20 year later. They are my favorite Pop group since Hanson, who are still together too!

^I really have nothing to add. Those are my thoughts exactly. I think Niall would LOVE that.
Regardless, even after 1D break up and do their own things we will still be hearing from them in some way, shape or form. It'd be interesting to see Harry pursue a career in acting; I think Louis could feasibly do that as well. I think Louis might actually enjoy being a judge or something on The X Factor. I could see Liam, Zayn or Harry having a career in music later on.
If they do break up, I do hope they get back together occasionally, even if it's just for a TV performance or something. If nothing else, I'm sure they'll stay friends for a long time.

He does what he has to do because he's in a group and has a committment to the other boys, but when it's over, he's going to want to stay as close to home as possible. He's an introvert and a homebody. Harry is far from boring, as he's the most popular one of the band. He's learning with his writing, he's learning at guitar, and he has lots of friends in the business who would write with him and for him. I wouldn't count him out by a long shot.

Holy shit. I'm going to like this even more than Midnight Memories, which made me officially a fan. Girl Almighty is PERFECT. I like the clips from all the songs released from this project so far. Wicked excited for this now.

Not sure if this has been announced yet, but this week's Columbia promo newsletter indicates they'll be on SNL sometime next month.

"Stockholm Syndrome" is one of the best songs in their discography. Which also sadly means, it won't see the light of day.

I like the album, but I think Midnight Memories had more catchier songs overall.

The physical deluxe is no cheaper than 20 bucks everywhere. NO way am I paying that much for a CD when I don't even pay that much for my favorite artist. I'll get the standard and download the deluxe tracks.

I'm surprised they have this up for streaming this week. I expected it to be held back through the holidays.
And I'm kind of surprised to say that I don't hate this. It's a lot less bubblegum than their past releases IMO.
My favorites are Act My Age and Fool's Gold.

Halfway through listening to the album. I LOVE it so far. My favorite so far is "Where Do Broken Hearts Go".

The reason I like it is because of its lack of bubblegum. These kids weren't even on my radar until Midnight Memories although One Thing and What Makes You Beautiful were guilty pleasures. I legit don't hear one bad song on the new album, based on the clips. I just wish I could get a deluxe physical copy for less than $20. What exactly are they giving away to make it that expensive? Pubes? Dirty boxers? They have crazy fans who will pay that though, so it's OK. I didn't buy the deluxe of Midnight Memories either and never even wound up downloading the bonus songs, but these bonus songs sound good enough to have made the actual album.

After listening to this, I still have no idea how "Steal My Girl" ended up as the lead single.
If you wanted to do 80s rock with an obvious Journey influence on the instrumentals, Where Do Broken Hearts Go is the answer. It was less of a hard-rock/hair band song, but Fireproof also offered a classic rock touch.
If you wanted to follow in the mold of your own recent hits (eg Story of My Life), Night Changes was the answer.
I'm usually not one to diss the lead singles, as I often feel it's designed to be needlessly contrarian (no way Royals, Habits, etc aren't stand-outs from those artists), but I just don't feel like any argument could be made for why Steal My Girl is in the top half of tracks on this album.

No Control needs to be a single. Absolutely love it. One of their very best. Where Do Broken Hearts Go,Fools Gold,Spaces,Stockholm Syndrome,Night Changes and Fireproof are all stellar too. Great album. Fireproof should have been the 1st single but I cant see it being released now that they are releasing Night Changes which has a similar vibe.

Fantastic album - only a first-listen reaction, but I think it's easily their best one yet; I usually feel like there a few clunkers in the middle of each of their albums so far, but didn't hear them on this one. "Steal My Girl" isn't one of my favorites, so I'm glad we're moving on to the far superior "Night Changes."
Also cackling at how much "Change Your Ticket" sounds like the two The 1975 singles released here.

Zayn not being there for a performance has me worried. It's giving me Ginger/Spice Girls teas. It's probably nothing to think about too much, but, like the Spice Girls towards the end, they do seem really burnt out. The physical deluxe is no cheaper than 20 bucks everywhere. NO way am I paying that much for a CD when I don't even pay that much for my favorite artist. I'll get the standard and download the deluxe tracks. Their deluxe editions are always expensive because they have those big ass books with them instead of coming in a normal case, which is annoying because it raises the price, there's no way to get the deluxe tracks physically without them, and they don't fit with the rest of your CD's. I've always gone for the standard edition with them.

I'm not worried. Everyone gets a sick day now and then, especially this time of year. Zayn did it before when they were the opening act for BTR playing in America for the first time. He had to go to a funeral back then so he skipped a couple shows. I thought they did great on the Today show despite Zayn's absence.
I'm still loving the album and hoping they add Southern tour dates soon!

My Lord, could Fool's Gold be ANY more obviously about Taylor Swift? LOL. I love it though. This album is obviously their best. I won't hear anything else. I mean, it's immaculately produced and beautifully song. I hear real talent in their voices and can't pick out the usual weak links (Louis in general, Niall's thin, childish voice and..Zayn's zany "falsetto") this time. I continue to be impressed by these guys. Is there some place where you can see who sings which vocal lines? I have a feeling the best vocals are going to Liam, once again. Whoever that is in the beginning of Night Changes has the most promise for a solo career, based on voice alone. Oh...and is that Niall on the second verse? Don't tell me it's Louis sounded scratchy and perfect?!

Sorry for the double post but not really...I'm gonna need No Control as the next single, then Night Changes, then 18.
