Personally I feel like Ready to Run is the best song for the next single but Where Do Broken Hearts Go would be my second pick. Hopefully they go with one of those.

Everytime Ready to Run starts, I think it's Wake Me Up.

After a few listens, this is my favorite album from them. I don't know if "return to form" or "breakthrough" or another term would be appropriate, but this is much much stronger than their last two imo. For reference, I really enjoyed their first album, and was very surprised at how well produced and written it was. It was an extremely solid, and durable, pop album. I liked the second one at first a lot, but it burned very very fast for me. The songwriting was nowhere near the heights of the first, and the hooks mostly became very grating on repeated listens. It also sounded very cheap and thin, in comparison to the fullness of the first.
I found the songwriting and production on Midnight Memories to be very flat on the whole, which led to the album mostly being a sea of sound, especially in the second half. It also sounded cheap, although not as much as the second album. Both were very disappointing in that sense, especially after they broke that mold of how good an album from a youth act could sound with their first.
Moreso than anything, I really love the sound of the new album. It's actually kinda hilarious just how much better it is in this department than the previous two. It's very well mixed, better than most albums from pop stars that are meant to have much longer legs than a One Direction album. They've relaxed their sound and increased the quality, and it pays off in spades here. You can see this from the singles already (I've generally considered their singles to be good representations of the albums, and this keeps that going). The difference between songs like Live While We're Young and Kiss You, and songs like Steal My Girl and Night Changes, is that the second group increases on repeated listens and more strengths are revealed, while the first two show how thin and brittle they are on repeated listens. The songwriting on Four isn't that much above their recent output (there's nothing as shamelessly glorious as Stole My Heart), although it is a significant step both upward and outward, but it is helped immensely by the production, which helps smooth over rough edges instead of making them harsher.
A big part of the album's charm is that some of the best moments seem completely accidental. Girl Almighty and Stockholm Syndrome are among their very best and most interesting. And even Act My Age, as hilarious as it is, works.
I know it's more apparent than ever that their ties aren't as strong as they once were, but I hope they can stick it out for at least one more effort. They still show a good amount of promise in their current incarnation, if this album is any indication.

"Night Changes" is my 3rd favorite single by them. Only behind "Story of My Life" and "What Makes You Beautiful".

I'm thinking the singles should've gone:
1. Where Do Broken Hearts Go 2. Night Changes 3. Ready to Run 4. Fireproof
I think the singles will go:
1. Steal My Girl 2. Night Changes 3. Ready to Run

Ready to Run WDBHG is the obvious smash so keeping to tradition their label will make sure it never sees the light of day on radio. (RIP "Stole My Heart" "Tell Me A Lie" "Rock Me" and "Happily").

Here is WDBHG tonight from Xfactor! WOW! Their label are damn fools not to make this the next single! Complete morons! This was the best performance they have ever given on any TV appearance! And Ronnie Wood playing guitar with Niall? I'm floored! Here it is bigger

That. Was. Incredible. If this isn't the 3rd single I might march up to their management myself and punch them in the face.
Louis was sick yesterday and it sounds like he isn't quite 100% yet. That's my only complaint but not much to be done, and it was still a fantastic performance.

The Night Changes-No Control-Fireproof trio is the strongest part on the album imo. I'm liking the album more but it's still my least favorite out of the FOUR.

"Spaces" reminds me of a song but I can't put my finger on which one. I'm thinking a 90's rock song.

This is easily their best album and the one that gives them an identity the most. Long gone are the days of sugar cuteness and I love how 80s-influenced it is. Favorites include Where Do Broken Hearts Go (that performance was amazing at least), Night Changes, No Control, Fireproof and Stockholm Syndrome.
edit #1: Is it me or does the beginning of the chorus on Spaces sound exactly like Behind Blue Eyes by The Who/Limp Bizkit?
edit #2: WDBHG HAS TO be the next single and it'll probably be their biggest hit ever if released. It's the Heaven Is A Place On Earth of the millennium. :'(
edit #3: Louis is generally the least appreciated vocalist among the five of them but he carries the chorus on No Control almost all on his own (does the same thing stand for One Thing as well? I still haven't figured out who does the main vocals on the chorus on that one) and that is easily one of the highest moments of the whole album.

I absolutely love this album. I was a little underwhelmed with Midnight Memories on the whole, despite several standout tracks, but this album is far more consistent for me. Take Me Home is still my fave record of theirs, but this is a close second. "Stockholm Syndrome" is my favorite, but right behind it are "Night Changes," "Fool's Gold," "Fireproof," "No Control," and "Change Your Ticket." I've also really grown to love "Steal My Girl" since it's initial release and it's one of my favorites now as well... shame that it didn't smash.

They will make their Tonight Show with Fallon debut tomorrow night. I also have seen on Twitter about maybe an appearance on there tonight as well but my TV listings only has them listed tomorrow night.
Edit: They are on both nights! Here is a preview of tonight!

Holy S&(%! That TV special was perfect! The live version of "Girl Almighty" OMG! Them tricking fans dressing as park workers, interview on a roller coaster, recording in a hotel room (Niall??-You know what I mean if you watched), The bread truck to get out of the hotel, Seeing the sights in South America. All this in an hour with commercials! Best music TV special, ever!

My mom turned to it briefly because she wanted to know which one was being talked about for their hair all the time (????? apparently it was Harry?), then she saw one of them touch their crotch so she groaned and changed the channel.
But anyway the special isn't re-airing at all before the end of the year, according to NBC's schedule, but you'll probably be able to stream it on their site soon.

I'm going to check this out soon I think. I've liked everything I have heard so far. "Night Changes" is pretty good, as well as "Fireproof", "Ready To Run" and "Stockholm Syndrome". "Steal My Girl" has finally grew on me, and now I enjoy it.

Um...I just went back to play and sing Night Changes because I am obsessed and I want it to be my karaoke song and um..yeah...so I watched the Ready To Run performance on SNL. WHERE DID ZAYN'S VOICE COME FROM?! I have only seen him mumble and look lost for all his other performances over the last two albums but this...energized...semi-enthused Zayn was just...wow. Now I am not so sure if Liam is the strongest singer after hearing and witnessing what I just saw. Liam is more consistent but Zayn was on point during that performance. I think Niall is much stronger of a vocalist than I have previously credited him with being. Now, Harry, who I thought was up there in terms of vocal strength is hovering above Louis, barely. He's flat so often, it seems and has to put the most effort into sounding the way he sounds. The less said about Louise the better but he IS improving.
