That would be terrifying. I'm picturing it now. Let's say for example Modest Mouse finally finishes their long anticipated album and releases a lead single. Artie will start the thread. It'll either be "TBA (Modest Mouse)" or "Modest Mouse, TBA" with a poll Artie: Lead single from their upcoming album. How do you guys think it'll do? How many weeks will this spend at #1. drindie: Well, the thing you guys need to understand is that this will in all likelihood get a high debut on alternative, however whether or not it hits #1 remains to be seen. What is for certain though is that Billboard will not include it in their Hot 100 because it's too obsessed with rap, crappy pop songs, and country to let alternative acts in. So it will probably flop. novaleks: wut? no. Me/Pipa/Devin/American Idiot: Definitely looking forward to this. They put out some quality stuff a few years back and it'll be interesting to see how they fare in this alternative climate. (Song flops) Green Baron: ***** ******* INDIE ****** POPPY ******* ******** SCREWED THIS ******** BAND OVER ****** GTFO TOVE LO YOUR TAKING SPINS AWAY FROM ****** MODEST MOUSE AND LIKE SLASH AND THEORY OF A DEADMAN ********* INDIE POP GARBAGE Me: You need to accept this state of alternative (For like the thousandth time). Green Baron: Never novaleks: we get it Artie: *creates thread for rumoured second single before the album even gets released* Pen upon return: Artie, we've been over this a thousand times. You can't start threads for every single song you hear. Shadowscorp: I'm not too big of a fan of this, but at least they were around back when alternative was awesome in the mid 2000s I hope no one is offended by this, it's just a gag, not to be taken seriously as I like all of you guys. I actually like Modest Mouse.... But you're right, the second part is probably what I'd say. Oh and Artie Ziff's back? Damn.

Cody
I'll play along. First of all not offended. Actually it's good to make waves on forums. Good or bad. and I don't mind if you guys view me as the member who brings music politics on the table. Somebody should and I stick by it. Cody pretty much got it right. The one thing you guys forgot to add was that : I believe since Billboard names them the #1 alt act of all time: then they sure as hell are not gonna flop on the charts. Pop? yes, but it won't hurt its sales on the Alt nor mainstream charts . That's about all I would have added.
Now, Not poking fun at myself, but it's a whole lot more interesting then just for everyone to agree or see what happens. I'm pretty sure it's agreeable that it won't succeed on Hot 100? We just all have different reasons why we believe it won't.
I doubt I'll team up with Artie. seems a bit too general for my likes. No release date? No reference links? Does anyone know for certain new Foo Fighters is on the horizon?

I'm more offended that Cody didn't include me. Koinoyokan: I love Lorde and Phantogram, and Deftones are good but they don't need to chart on Alternative because heavy music should go on Active, and we need indie pop on Alt, but heavy music is also good? Idk?

Deftones are amazing but as long as they're pulling Top 5 hits on one chart, I'm okay. Alt has obviously changed. I'd personally like Crosses to have major success on Alt instead.

I like the added variety that Alt has to offer nowadays, they've opened my eyes to some amazing music. I like having Alt and Active separate cause there's so much more to listen to rather than back in the mid-2000s when the charts were pretty much the same save for a few groups. I'm not angry about Linkin Park and Seether not doing well on Alt because they're still smashing on Active.

I'm angry not so much towards Seether, because I don't like them as much, but Linkin Park have a rich history on the Alternative format and I think what they've done (pun not intended) is enough to justify smashing Alt especially when their material is as kick-ass as The Hunting Party.

I'm expecting a lead single as good as "The Pretender" and much better than "Rope".

I'm more offended that Cody didn't include me. I originally had a line for both you and Chuckles in there, but I removed them because I just don't think they blended with the rest of the joke well enough lol. Yours was something like: "Oh great. Modest Mouse came back after 7 years, but Tool still can't get up off their asses and make a new album. Anyways, this better not do any better than "Tempest" did on alternative, because that'll be complete bullshit." and Chuckles was something like: "As if this got robbed, while you got crap from the likes of Alex Clare and Lorde, laying down some of the biggest alternative hits of the decade."

The album opener supposedly has a preview out there. Similar to what they did with "Bridge Burning" last cycle.

there was a "sneak peak" video that I saw today, but it's really an 8-second Dave Grohl scream. The way they're stretching this out is killing me, I just want to hear the new material

Holy shiskabobs! I am indeed looking forward to new Foo Fighters, but welcome back, Artie! f**k, man. I really have to get Pen to come back on here now. Just to follow up with this, so Pen was down here visiting me for the weekend and to attend the Linkin Park/30 Seconds To Mars/AFI concert on Friday night in West Palm Beach. I showed him some of the current threads on here to see if he wanted to return. Unfortunately, for those who want him back, it doesn't look likely. He says he's not really interested in the discussion of what's being played on Alternative and Active right now and what should be as well as where songs might or should be charting as he's not interested in radio. He just likes discussing the bands he enjoys and why as well as finding out about new bands that may be similar. We'll see what his decision is as I plan to join Tunelab at some point in the remainder of my day off today. He says "hey" to all of you that might have known him in the past and to join in on the discussion on Tunelab as well. Speaking of the concert from Friday night, I thought I should note that between 30 Seconds To Mars and Linkin Park, we waited an hour and a half for Linkin Park to come on. They were supposed to hit the stage around 9:20pm and they ended up coming on at 10:10pm. People were pretty pissed because the venue has an 11:00pm curfew for concerts to end. Chester apologized after they came out and played "Guilty All The Same" and thanked the crowd for all staying, but the delay was for good reason. They ended up playing until 11:25pm and I overheard someone saying that the band gets charged $1,000 for every minute past 11:00pm that they play. We missed out on four songs that they played last night in Tampa such as "Given Up," "Points of Authority," "Castle of Glass," and a medley of "Leave Out All The Rest," "Shadow of The Day," and "Iridescent." Pen also noticed that Chester stood in one spot the whole time on stage and looked to be in pain while playing. We went to a 7-11 after the show ended and spoke to some guy that worked at the venue. He claimed that one of the band members fainted before the set. Yesterday morning, we did some research. Chester wrote on Twitter that he thanks the fans, doctors, and staff for the support or he never would have made it through the show. I'm thinking maybe him fainting wasn't true, but many people said he probably hurt his back. Scary stuff for sure that I've never seen happen before at a concert.
