Lose the annoying repetition and the electro drum beat and I think I'd really like this. As it is it's still one of Blake's better recent releases, but I can see it wearing thin on repeated listening. I do appreciate the fact that it is identifiable as a county song, and not just token elements either (it's the pop/hip hop elements that seem to be token). If country radio is going to recover from the bro-country doldrums, it's going to need the help of artists like Blake and Luke Bryan to expedite the process. This is a good step, hopefully this album will be more of a blend of new Blake and old Blake, because I found his last album to be a total trainwreck.

Thank you Clear Channel!!! You're awesome, NOT!!!! Tracking at #1 after only one day of airplay, but won't stay since Blake won't get ridiculous airplay like he did yesterday. Country No.1 Blake Shelton Neon Light +82591 Blake Shelton Neon Light 42 -- BLAKE SHELTON Neon Light 984 -- 984 -- 8.286 -- 1 Blake even had a higher debut in spins and audience I guess due to the song being released at midnight whereas Taylor's was released to Pop in the afternoon after her live stream. Good as far as radio goes, but people, for whatever reason, seem to be struggling to find this one on iTunes. I don't care what you think of Blake or the song, but someone with his star wattage shouldn't be outside of the Top 25 after nearly 24 hours of availability. kanimal, I didn't say I didn't like the song or Blake, I was just saying it is ridiculous to be getting that much airplay thanks to Clear Channel in 1 day and be tracking at #1 already but this happened before with Kenny Chesney/Tim McGraw back in 2012 for "Feel Like A Rockstar" which actually ended up debuting at #13 that first week out. I know other songs with Clear Channel deals. have tracked at #1 and yes they were Monday's premieres that would show up on Tuesday's update as #1 tracking because Monday is the first day of the new chart week which starts the tracking process for Billboard and ends Sunday Night at midnight if I am not mistaken. Oh I love Blake and his music, but I feel he doesn't need these type of deals which help him to debut higher and move faster up the charts. He is already big enough a star.

I see how my post could have been interpreted as argumentative, but it wasn't meant that way. I wasn't even responding to you in particular. I was just saying that even if someone felt "this song sucks," that wouldn't be enough to describe why a new song from Blake freaking Shelton wasn't making a dent on iTunes. Some of these new Brad Paisley songs suck, and they're still charting on brand recognition.

I was just coming here to say I was surprised it wasn't #1 on iTunes. Only at #9, which is great, but for a star like Blake. Hmm. I do really like Brad's new release though. and I will refuse to comment on Lee Brice's...

I was thinking about the Itunes condundrum myself, but if you think about it, they dont have the SINGLE on Itunes home Country page. Just the album, and when you click on the album then you can download NEON Light. I actually think that is what it is, otherwise this song would be #1 ahead of Aldean. Let's face it, some people are lazy LOL. Same goes for Darius's new single, even though Itunes has release date of Aug 25 (??) but you can download it already. It hasn't made the opening page yet, you have to scour for it. Itunes is strange indeed. I wonder if Apple makes those decisions on "marketing" and who gets front page, or is record labels have a say...

I'm really enjoying this one as well. Scratch what I said about the high notes in the chorus--he sounds great there. This is probably my favorite Blake single in at least 6 years. As others have said, it's an actual country song, and it sounds really good on the radio.
As for its position on iTunes, it's not doing bad at all. I think people get a bit too worked up about that sometimes. Blake does have a lot of visibility but he's never had too much cross-over appeal, even with bigger sellers like "Sure Be Cool If You Did" and "Boys 'Round Here". "Neon Light" might not be exploding right out of the gate but it'll be a solid hit for him, both digitally and at radio. Even though he still has a lot of pop/rock elements in his music, Blake has never had the cross-over appeal that others like Luke, Jason, and Florida Georgia Line have.
I would bet on at least another Platinum hit for him here, though, before all is said and done. And I think his album will do just fine...I'd guess a debut somewhere in the 175-200k range which is great for someone like him.

The iTunes download chart is just like a political poll ... it's not the only download site but its a very accurate sample of whats going on. From where he's sitting on the iTunes chart (#9) after 3 full days, I'd guess Blake is going to download 60 - 70,000 this week. That's a very luke warm first week for a first single from one of country's biggest and most high profile stars. I'm sure this will be another solid radio #1 from him, but it appears like this song is getting nowhere near the download response that several of the current top 10 songs got week 1.

Both Blake's new single and Darius Rucker's new single would be better without that annoying triple lyric repetition. That's the trend right now. double or triple repeating, it's a pop music trick. As for those high notes, they're amazingly good. Blake's pretty consistent with that (hardly ever off, even live, unless he's sick or super tired)

Which is all well and fine but it's still annoying to many and we really don't need any more pop influences on country radio these days. You really don't need to argue everybody's opinion.

I'll say I prefer the 3-peat to the seemingly endless "red, red, red, red..." of "Boys Round Here".

I like this one, the sound of it is so cool and fresh!! I don't care for the repetitive lyrics (seems like the writers couldn't think of anything else to say, so they just repeated some of them), but in my opinion, it's still a much better song than a lot of what is being played now (Chase Rice, Sam Hunt, etc, come to mind).

According to kworb's projections, Blake will sell only 28k first week!! This is a DISASTER for an A-lister.
Even if BB/Soundscan counts the album pre-orders as singles sales, the total would still be in the 35k range. That is still really terrible compared to superstars like Luke, Jason, "old man" Kenny, etc.

Heard this on the radio for the first time and it sounds really really good on the radio than the first time I've listened to it on Youtube. I'm onboard for this.

I have to think (someone mentioned this earlier) that the fact that they aren't selling it as it's own single is hurting it a lot. Still very, very low though, shocking really.

To be honest I can't get into this one. I don't like the production, and the lyrics leave much more to be desired.

I know you were addressing jhomes87, but I wanted to chime in and say I enjoy this song eons more than those three you listed. My one quibble with this is the prominent drum that starts the song off. I get what they were going after with it, it's a modern touch to blend with the more throwback song, it's just not one of the modern things I'm much a fan of.

I like this one but the repetition of some of the words could eventually kill it for me especially since radio will play it 42000 times a day

"Neon Light" is easily my favorite single from Blake since "She Wouldn't Be Gone" and "I'll Just Hold On". "Honey Bee" isn't terrible but it's pretty corny to say the least, and "Over" is one of the most generic songs I've ever heard. I know it went #1 but somehow I always avoided it and I don't think I've heard it once in the last 12-18 months. Definitely not a very memorable song. I think "Neon Light" works so well because of the production and because of its lyrics. The production isn't exactly sparse but for once we have a song where it's not so loud that you have to struggle to make out the lyrics. It's got a bit of a funky beat but it clearly is country. And the lyrics are country too--the man in this song is trying to get over his heartbreak, and the neon light at the end of the tunnel is his hope.

I'd have to agree with the above except this is probably my favorite Blake song since Who Are You When I'm Not Looking or Hillbilly Bone ( Yes Hillbilly Bone is a guilty pleasure of mine). Hopefully Blake can keep this up because I really don't want to dislike his music.
