No surprise, but Caleb Johnson's debut will be the lowest Idol-winning sales debut - last year's winner, Candice Glover, was previously lowest with 19k.

Lol what's the point of American Idol anymore, if the winners are opening at 10k... It's almost laughable that they spend months looking for the next star, and then they just drop the winner as soon as the milk them for the show.

So why is Troye Sivan releasing on a Friday. Is it because he's Australian and they're getting a jump start on that global release thing discussed in the other thread?

www.billboard.com/articles/news/6214545/guardians-soundtrack-targets-2nd-week-at-no-1 'Guardians' Soundtrack Targets 2nd Week at No. 1By Keith Caulfield | August 13, 2014 Meanwhile, Troye Sivan and The Gaslight Anthem are heading for high chart debuts. After jumping to No. 1 on the most recent Billboard 200 chart, the Guardians of the Galaxy soundtrack seems set for a second week at the top, according to forecasts from industry sources. The album topped the list reflecting the sales week ending Aug. 10, selling 109,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan. That said, it's too early to tell how many copies the album might sell in the week ending Aug. 17. What we do know is that Guardians of the Galaxy should sell more than any of the new albums heading for top 10 debuts. The Billboard 200's new top 10 will be revealed on Wednesday, Aug. 20. The biggest of the new arrivals on next week's chart looks to be either Troye Sivan's TRXYE EP, due for an unconventional release Friday, Aug. 15, or the Gaslight Anthem's Get Hurt (released on Aug. 12) Both could sell in the 30,000 to 35,000 range, with Sivan eyeing a possible larger figure. His EP will be released on a Friday, instead of the usual Tuesday, in order to give the title a global release date. (Friday is the day when new albums are released in Australia, where Sivan is based.) Working against Sivan's debut is how the EP will only have three full days of sales powering its chart debut. (SoundScan's tracking week runs Monday through Sunday.) Most new albums (released on Tuesday) get six days of sales in their first week.

The commercial performance of the Idol winners correlates with the show's drop in the ratings, so no surprise to see that anemic projection for this past season's winner.

www.hitsdailydouble.com/news/rumormill.cgiYOUR TOP 15: Disney's Marvel of a Mix, aka the Guardians of the Galaxy soundtrack, prepares to log another week at #1. Fighting for #2 will be Now 51 and the debut EP from Capitol's viral troubadour Troye Sivan, who will unquestionably have the top-selling debut. Our number below is based on Sivan's preorders, but as itβs currently #2 at iTunes, we won't be shocked to see it exceed these expectations. Youβll note that the House of Barnett will have three in the Top 10 (indeed, the Top 7) next week, as its aforementioned market share surge continues. Here's how it looks headed into the weekend: 1. Guardians of the Galaxy (Hollywood) 70-80k 2. Troye Sivan (Capitol) 50-55k 3. Now 51 (NOW) 50-55k 4. Frozen (Walt Disney) 40-45k 5. Gaslight Anthem (Island) 30-35k 6. 5 Seconds of Summer (Capitol) 27-30k 7. Sam Smith (Capitol) 24-27k 8. Godsmack (Republic) 19-21k 9. Ed Sheeran (Atlantic) 18-20k 10. Lorde (Lava/Republic) 17-19k 11. Linkin Park (Warner Bros.) 17-19k 12. Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers (Reprise) 17-19k 13. OneRepublic (Mosley/Interscope) 16-18k 14. Luke Bryan (Capitol Nashville) 16-18k 15. Eric Clapton & Friends (Bushbranch/Surfdog) 16-18k

^Yes. iTunes is having a $5.99 sale. That's why Linkin Park is up there as well.
Target/Best Buy is also having a big album sale.

It's OK, JBtV. I don't like to see you hurting like this. Now, everyone else join hands in a sing-along of the aptly titled "Let it Go."

Gaslight would sell the same regardless of what Frozen did. Methinks the people still buying Frozen are not the same people buying Gaslight.

I think my point was that in a thawed out world without 'Frozen', Gaslight Anthem would still be 30-35K, the only thing that would change is its debut ranking would be #4, instead of #5. The people buying 'Frozen' are probably not the same people buying this one.

I can understand being cranky if they were debuting at #6 instead of top 5 or #2 instead of #1 because of Frozen, but really there is not much of a difference between 4 and 5.

This is as you know very preliminary and things could change. The debut ranking looks like it will be Top 5. I agree, Frozen is blocking it from being Top 4.

www.billboard.com/articles/columns/chart-beat/6221698/troye-sivan-top-10-billboard-200Troye Sivan Set for Top 10 Debut on Billboard 200By Keith Caulfield | August 15, 2014 8:13 PM EDT The singer's 'TRXYE' EP is off to a solid start, while the 'Guardians of the Galaxy' soundtrack should hold for a second week at No. 1. YouTuber-turned-major label recording artist Troye Sivan is aiming for a top 10 debut on the Billboard 200 chart. Industry forecasters suggest the 19-year old's TRXYE EP, released on Aug. 15, could sell perhaps 30,000 to 35,000 copies by the end of the tracking week on Sunday, Aug. 17. That might be enough to make it the top debut of the week. Meanwhile, the Guardians of the Galaxy soundtrack should hold atop the list for a second frame, with perhaps 75,000. The Billboard 200's new top 10 will be revealed on Wednesday, Aug. 20. Sivan's album was unusually released on a Friday -- instead of the traditional Tuesday -- in order to give the set a global release date. Friday is the day when new albums are released in Australia, where Sivan is based. As noted in an earlier story, TRXYE's sales could suffer a bit because it will only have three full days of sales powering its chart debut. The Billboard 200 chart reflects a sales tracking week that runs from Monday through Sunday each week. Most new albums (released on Tuesday) get six days of sales in their first week. Sivan signed with EMI Australia in June of 2013, while he released an EP in the U.S. on EMI's sister label, Capitol Records. He has 2.5 million subscribers to his YouTube channel (with 110 million total views), 1.6 million followers on Instagram and 1.7 million followers on Twitter. (Of his Twitter followers, about 465,000 of them are based in the U.S., according to social media ratings firm Shareablee.) Sivan won't be the only notable new arrival on next week's Billboard 200, as rock band The Gaslight Anthem should also make a top 10 debut. The group's new Get Hurt could sell around 30,000 to 35,000. On SoundScan's Building chart (below), Guardians of the Galaxy and the Now 51 compilation are Nos. 1 and 2, respectively. The Building tally is a precursor to the final Billboard 200 ranking -- reflecting the first four days (Monday through Thursday) of SoundScan's tracking week as reported by six major merchants. As for the rest of the Building chart's top 10, the Frozen soundtrack is No. 3, The Gaslight Anthem's Get Hurt is No. 4 and 5 Seconds of Summer's self-titled set is No. 5. Sam Smith's In the Lonely Hour is No. 6 and Ed Sheeran's x is No. 7. Luke Bryan's Crash My Party, Lorde's Pure Heroine and Linkin Park's The Hunting Party round out the top 10 at Nos. 8-10, respectively. The surging Frozen, Lorde and Linkin Park albums benefit from sale pricing in the iTunes Store, where they are each discounted to $5.99. (Sivan's EP is not on the Building chart, as it was released on Aug. 15, the day after the chart's tracking period ended.) Billboard estimates that they make up about 85% of all U.S. album sales.

I thought I read LP's album is a flop That was very premature from Paul Grein.... climbing back to top 20 even if it's because of discount, shows the demand is still there.
