Slant gives the album 2.5/5 stars:

walkashame is really cute. the one song with the rapper would've been so much better without him, so i hope there's a solo version that will find its way on the net. the best songs imo are still the ones originally on the ep though (oh and lips are movin lol).

I kinda agree with Slant in the sense that her doo-wop flavored shtick is polarizing and a whole album sustained on mostly that is one that people will either love or be annoyed by. It works well for both of her singles and I expected it to pepper her album but I was expecting a bit more range in terms of musicality. She seems like she's capable of some whip-smart lyricism but she often tends to skew a bit too cliché.
That said, I still like her as an artist; just don't love her album.

I'd group her with Lorde in the fact that the album is very samey and there's a few songs I like.

3am is also really cute but i wish it went somewhere toward the end in terms of the instrumental.

So many potential hits. Definitely the best album of 2015 so far.

so far i have listed to about 15 seconds of the new songs since i am waiting to the actual release to hear the full versions. from what i can tell though is Bang Dem Sticks sounds kind of out of place with less of her usual retro sound . not sure whether i will like it as much as the others though and will have to wait and see on that.

As much as I despise "All About That Bass", something about her has me very interested. The rest of the EP was okay ("Title" being my favorite), so I actually will check this out when it comes out.

yeah this album is one of those ones where i can only listen to so much of it before taking a break because the doo-wop production feels very same-y. but each song on its own is usually great. the more i listen to "mr. almost" the more i hope for a rapless version. and "credit" is a great closer.

That bad rating from LA Times is annoying because the review is putting down the fact that the songs conflict each other in theme or something?

The album is... okay. The sameyness is frustrating, and the "retro" production sometimes has more of a Christmas album sound than a cool, old-school feel. Some of the lyrics (like that dated "swine flu" simile) are trying so hard to be cool that they fall flat on their faces.
Overall, I think it just has a case of debut-itis. I think she has it in her to put out a really great pop album, and this just wasn't it.
6.5/10

That bad rating from LA Times is annoying because the review is putting down the fact that the songs conflict each other in theme or something? -- What's more annoying is that the 'contradictions' they identify aren't even contradictions. "My daddy knows I'm a good girl / We all make mistakes in the drunk world." Is exactly WHY she can hold her head up high when doing the walk of shame. It's not a contradiction at all - it's an explanation. The "Dear Future Husband" bit isn't a contradiction either. She's certainly not saying it's a marriage of equals - she's saying it's a marriage of 'worship the ground on which Meghan walks, and maybe she'll give you...kisses.' Hold the door open for her, see her family more than you see yours, accept her when she acts crazy -- and don't you dare expect her to cook. It's not a NOBLE message - but it's a pretty clear one. -- I think it's clear no critic thinks this is an amazing album, but it also appears enjoyment of it hinges upon the extent to which one buys into "All About That Bass" as anti-feminist and the extent to which one thinks she's guilty of cultural appropriation. If it appears a critic truly has a problem with those things (and you can sort of tell by the way it's introduced), you'll notice that critic more rigorously attempting to find flaws.

I would give it a 8/10. It has its flaws, but I think for a debut it's good. Bang Dem Sticks makes my ears hurt. I hope Like I'm Gonna Lose You is a single, but that will depend on John Legend's people. Mr Almost could be as big for her, I could even see them giving it a country-pop mix to serve to country radio.
AATB - 10/10 Dear Future Husband - 10/10 Close Your Eyes - 6/10 3am - 7/10 Like I'm Gonna Lose You - 10/10 Bang Dem Sticks (she should stick with the throwback sound and leave this to Jason Derulo) - 3/10 Walkashame - 8/10 Title - 10/10 What If I - 7/10 Lips Are Moving - 9/10 No Good For You - 8/10 Mr. Almost - 10/10 My Selfish Heart - 7/10 Credit - 8/10
Meghan is polarizing and has been since AATB blew up. I'm not surprised the reviews of her album have been how they are, but there is no denying that she has a talent as a songwriter and singer. I'm excited to see what happens with her this year.

The John Legend duet should be a single at some point.

"Bang Dem Sticks" is definitely the worst track on the album. Shouldn't be on it at all, doesn't fit musically and just isn't that good. The standout tracks to me right now are all the songs from the EP and "Walkashame", "No Good For You", "Mr. Almost" and "Credit". I pretty much like all of them besides Bang Dem Sticks (and even that I can stomach a little bit). Definitely a fun and enjoyable album that I'll be having on repeat for the week because her melodies are way too catchy, the production is so perfect and old school and the lyrics are so fun and relatable.

I hate that they slowed the tempo down of LIGLY; the original was perfect.

This is cute, and a pretty solid debut. Not sure if the formula is sustainable for a second album, so her evolution will be interesting to watch.
Also, it drives me insane that this album starts with an "Interlude" instead of a "Prelude"

I love Walkashame!!!
Bang Dem Sticks is polarizing, some parts of it I like, and some parts I don't, I'm sure I'll grow to like it!
Most of the tracks were good, but forgettable imo, but I'd give it a 6/10 or 7/10.
