As i say, i don't like the song so i doubt i would like it even if it was sung by Sam Smith or Bruno Mars. I don't like his voice either, but i wasn't in love with Passengers voice either and that doesn't stop me from liking let her go.
And yes, there's some lazy quality in the way he sings the song, that i don't like either. Anyway, the song (at least the chorus) is catchy, but i find the other songs that are crossing from alternative (Riptide and Take me to church) way better than this.
The three songs are selling quite well, so it's impossible to predict wich one is going to successfully cross to pop (maybe even the three can do it, it won't be the first time). If i have to bet, this is the one with more possibilities because it's the most innofensive of the three

Well, I hope you're right as I'd love to see 'Riptide' and 'Take Me To Church' as well as 'Dangerous' cross over. One at a time I guess. Or let's hope anyway.

It's not common that a lot of alternative hits cross to pop at the same time, but i remember It's time, Madness, Little talks and Ho Hey doing it. This songs are selling well, so it's possible. Anyway i think Take me to church has serious hurdles, the song has a different structure, and a controversial lyrics and video. Comparing to that Stolen dance path should be smooth, but you never know sometimes songs that seem sure shots fail to make an impact and then you have songs like Pumped up kicks that became huge by surprise

The guy's voice is definitely going to get on a lot of people's nerves as far as Top 40 listeners go. If not for that I would say it would be a pop hit, but I think that could stop it.
Also is it just me or is this practically begging for like an EDM pop mix ala Summertime Sadness? I can totally hear that in my head when listening to it.

Oh no, stop the generic EDM remixes! Especially the ones that drown the original in a cacophony. Check the Flicflac edit though.
Personally I like the guy's voice, I think it not only fits but creates the mood of the song. Got a laid-back, a bit lazy stoner quality. But their whole album is like that tbh, and I find it absolutely fantastic for most of the time. Would people pay this level of attention tot he song if the singer had a clear tinkling voice? We won't know but somehow I doubt that.
I can certainly understand not everyone liking it though. But it looks like the majority of the people do, it wouldn't be a steady presence in the iTunes top 50 otherwise.
As for its pop prospect, it won't reach #1, come on. Maybe top 20.

I cannot stand this song, I tolerate Prayer in C, I have grown to like Riptide and Waves, but his voice just kills any chance I had of liking this.

Their new song Flashed Junk Mind sounds EXACTLY like Stolen Dance. I don't mean similar. I mean exactly alike. So even if this catches on, they're never going to have another single.

So even if this catches on, they're never going to have another single. they've already released a whole album in Europe close to a year ago, Flashed Junk Mind is just another song from it so it's not really "new". Also I don't think they were going to be anything other than a one hit wonder, most of the Europe-US crossovers aren't that successful for a second go around. But your enjoyment of Sadnecessary (the album) entirely hinges on how much you like Stolen Dance. The songs are very similar. I enjoyed Flashed Junk Mind and Down By The River the most from the album other than Stolen Dance.

"Down By The River," "Fairytale," and the title track are the ones that stood out the most to me. All sound similar to "Stolen Dance"...

The way to have a successful USA career for an european singer is really invest in that career. Promote in europe is easy, you have a big performance on tv, or put your song on a big radio station and the work is (partly) done. But the USA needs a lot more time and effort, is a big big country, so you need to invest time. We have recent examples of people who made it, like Ed Sheeran who really work hard to stablish himself. Even people who had it easier like Sam Smith (his first performance really did all the hard work) do concerts and promote his work.
If you have a hit in Europe, and you have the luck that it cross without you doing that much (wich is not easy but it happens sometimes) and you don't promote you second one, the chances are you end being a one hit wonder.
Ace of base is a good example of changing the path, the were big with All that she wants, but their second and third singles in europe weren't that big so they went with the sign on the USA and it really worked.
Stolen Dance reminds me of One Day by Asaf Avidan's One Day on the cathy/annoying department, i ended liking that song (i hate it at first, and i have to recognize that i really like it the video) so maybe i end liking Stolen chance, who knows

Its only CHR action so far is 22 spins on a Milwaukee station. Is this a good thing?

Was this delayed, or is it another case of Republic Playbook being errant?
Republic is back to listing this as "coming soon" rather than impacting 9/16.
At the same time, it's still listed as 9/16 on All Access and is blowing up at Hot AC, so I can't see why it would be delayed.
-- I've also grown to completely prefer this to the very similar "Waves." It's just tauter and catchier, plus it feels more organic - you can tell Waves is a remix, and you can tell this was composed this way from scratch.

Too many Alt songs are being pushed at once, so Republic is doing the right thing by moving this back.

Both feature similar, repeating guitar licks over low-key/restrained dance beats. Similar vocal delivery on the verses. Only major difference involves the separate, more crescendoing chorus on "Stolen Dance" (which is one of the things that makes it the superior song).

Waves is a big success here for the last months and i don't get tired of it, it's atmospheric, pleasant and feel good song, Stolen dance is starting to catch here, but even i tried i don't like the song. The voices are similar but i can't with the laziness that the singer puts on Stolen dance. I really don't know if i would like Mr Probz voice in other songs, but it fits really well on Waves. On a curious note, Stolen Dance is/was big in europe, but not in the UK where it wasn't top 20. On the Riptide/Take me to church/Stolen Dance, this is the one with more probabilities to impact on pop. Sales are not significatively different, but this is climbing really fast on Hot AC, way faster than the other two

Looks like it was taken off AllAccess at the last second, so looks like it was delayed then

Yeah, Republic Playbook switched its listing from "9/16" to "coming soon" earlier as well, as kanimal pointed out.

Apparently it's impacting tomorrow according to AllAccess, though Republic Playbook still says it's just 'coming soon'... so idk

Anyone know why album track "Stunner" is currently #14 (aka much higher than "Stolen Dance") right now? maybe because it was just released and it's riding off of the rising hype from Stolen Dance, so everyone who gradually bought Stolen Dance are instead all buying this at the same time.

Anyone know why album track "Stunner" is currently #14 (aka much higher than "Stolen Dance") right now? Likely due to album pre-orders; it was released at midnight as an instant-grat download (much like the new Jason Aldean, Florida Georgia Line, Hoodie Allen, etc.).
