Kurt Pardon my ignorance but what do HITS have against Atlantic? I'm still not exactly sure, though I hear it has something to do with Lyor Cohen? Their bias is really obvious when you look at things like label marketshare reports, though; they conveniently forget Atlantic every time, and if they're actually #1, they just won't post the reports until they're lower in the ranks. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

There's no way rob's album will debut as low as 10k. He has too loyal of a fan base for that.
Cradlesong debuted with around 122k in 2009.
Matchbox's album north debuted around 100k in 2012.
I'm predicting the great unknown will sell no less than 30k and no more than 65k.

I just checked iTunes for the first time in a week. His big day must by paying off...#1 on Pop and #6 overall. Really not bad at all considering he's about 20 years older than the other people on the pop chart and he has had NO airplay on Pop. As with the reviews, I've seen some better than others. I think it's interesting that people not liking it say it's not heartfelt. Huh? Again, as I thought, the lyrics and some excellent songwriting does kind of take a back seat to the production here and there but that doesn't mean the sentiment isn't there. People are funny. Here's a nice review. www.starpulse.com/news/index.php/2015/08/25/review-rob-thomas-delivers-on-third-al?ref_src=news_rss

Are you a Madonna stan, by any chance?
I like the album just fine, regardless of what critics or the general record buying public thinks and people are entitled to their opinion. I love the first song on the album more than any other uptempo he has ever done but it seems so...weird coming from a happily married man/father LOL. Although, Robin Thicke played the same lothario act (although for him it turned out to be real...)

Are you a Madonna stan, by any chance? Is this question meant for me? LOL! No, I'm not a Madonna stan but I do like some of her songs. Curious why you thought that? New obsession - "Steady" - This one took 4-5 listens but I really like it. It's very much the "old, edgy Rob" that I missed on Cradlesong. I'm glad he's back for one last hurray. :)

If we're making sales predictions, I'm predicting 60k. I'm hoping it will be closer to what North did its first week and sell 70-90k. I'll be really shocked if he doesn't sell at least 50k. Cradlesong sold 122k and North sold 95k. I know album sales are declining, but Rob's fans are older and generally still buy albums (at least more than younger people).

I wonder if his sales are being hindered from the fact he was giving out a free copy with every concert ticket? Or is that somehow being included?

If they redeem the code on the ticket and get a download is that a sale? I don't think it's that big of an impact but it could be a few thousand less if they don't count these "sales."

I'm shocked to see him only pulling these numbers. It's scary to see how much the album business has dropped off since 2009 and even 2012.
On another note, there's a new special music survey on Rate The Music about Rob, with Heaven Help Me and Pieces as the two choices. I wonder if these are being considered for single #3? I'm rooting for "Pieces" if that's the case.
There's so many good single choices on this album that it's really hard for me to understand why the uninspiring "Trust You" was chosen as single #1.

Just saw Rob last night, he didn't even bother playing "Trust You."
Just goes to show how badly that song flopped.

When Trust You didn't hit I thought Rob might could do 20-25k. I guess I was really in the ballpark. Billboard said 31k (I think that's album sales). So looking at the top 20 I guess it is what it is. A young pop star with a huge hit within the last two years came in less than Rob so that says a lot. If you aren't Taylor Swift, Adele, or a male from Europe selling albums is a struggle now. (Indie artists and rock bands seem to be able to make good debuts so good for them.) As for me, I'm really enjoying the album and I'm glad Rob went this direction for one last hurray in the pop world.

A little late on this, but I finally got around to listening to Rob's album. Honestly, most of the album is great, but there are ones that I don't really care for.
LOVE: "I Think We'd Feel Good Together" "The Great Unknown" "Paper Dolls" "Heaven Help Me" "Pieces" "All The Best Things" "Steady"
LIKE: "Trust You" "Hold On Forever" "Absence of Affection" "Things You Said" "NLYTM"
Still Good, but Don't Really Care For: "Wind It Up" "One Shot" "Lie To Me"
I really enjoyed this album.

Rob's wife had her brain surgery on Friday. Here's a twitter update from him last night.
Rob Thomas @thisisrobthomas · 12h12 hours ago Mari is finally back home now. It will be a long week but we are all hoping she recovers and finds some relief. Hard to say for now.
I'm sure Rob wishes his album had done better but put into perspective with other things in his life right now I'm sure he's not even thinking about it. Having said that, it does look like he his back on the road in the US for some more shows this Fall and maybe he has some other promo lined up as well.

Just saw Rob last night, he didn't even bother playing "Trust You." Just goes to show how badly that song flopped. His sound is really a relic at this point. Don't get me wrong, I've always liked his solo and MB20 stuff, but everything about him just screams 90's to mid 00's. He may as well be holding a sign saying: "I was relevant: 1996-2006."

The album's currently $6.99 on iTunes; back up to #63 on the main chart. Well, at least Atlantic did that for him while he has been out West performing on Ellen and I think visiting some radio stations. I'm looking forward to the new video. I guess there will be two actors in it portraying him and his wife and their life together in New York. The concept brings two things to mind for me...that it will really be a heartfelt video and tastefully done or the second option is that it comes out really cheesy. I hope it's the first possibility.

I am beyond obsessed with I Think We'd Feel Good Together and Lie To Me. Those two songs alone make this album my favorite of his.

Lie To Me really grew on me and is probably one of the better songs on the album. After having the album for awhile now and having gone back to listening to the radio again and then back to the album for a listen or two I think the two weakest songs for me are Trust You and One Shot. It will be interesting to see in his upcoming mini-tour (12 shows or so), what songs he does from this album.

His story sounds plausible. This will deservedly blow over before it becomes an issue, which I doubt it even will.
