I'm hopeful that the number of songs going recurrent will push this into the Top 40 either tomorrow or next Monday. If she can hold off The Cadillac Three, she has a good shot at it tomorrow.

I'm hopeful that the number of songs going recurrent will push this into the Top 40 either tomorrow or next Monday. If she can hold off The Cadillac Three, she has a good shot at it tomorrow. I've got her projected to land right at #40. Josh Turner might pass her, but she should make up for that by passing Canaan Smith (and of course there will be 3 recurrents from the top 10). The Cadillac Three likely won't be a threat--I've got Trisha pulling away from that one. If anything, she might have to worry about Gloriana's new one, which has had a big week thanks in large part to the Cumulus stations. The only other wild card is Brothers Osborne...if "Rum" re-enters, then Trisha would need to stay ahead of Josh, Canaan, and Gloriana in order to move up to #40. But I don't think "Rum" will re-enter unless EMI Nashville has been trying to convince Billboard all week that they aren't done with that song. It's bullet on Mediabase is only +8 right now and it gained less than 100k there over the last 6 days, so unless the label has been really campaigning for BB to re-enter it, I don't think Billboard will, as the gains have not been nearly big enough. But my projections place Trisha right at #40 with just under 2.8 million. I've got Josh Turner at #39 with just over 2.8 million and Gloriana at 2.3 million, although I wouldn't be surprised if they land closer to 2.4 or 2.5 mil (I went pretty conservative with them). I've got Canaan Smith falling below 2.5 mil and The Cadillac Three still under 2.4 mil. With a margin of error I can't be completely sure that Trisha will get that #40 spot (or perhaps #39), but I'll give her about a 75% chance of being T40 on tomorrow's Billboard.

I really hope that Billboard doesn't allow "Rum" to re-enter. That could hurt her chances of top 40 significantly this week, but I really don't think that will happen.

"Dirt" stayed on AND Gloriana got ahead, so it was pretty much a worst case scenerio this week. She also lost her bullet, but managed to move up one spot, to #42. I hope next week is a better week.

Yeah, I definitely didn't see "Dirt" staying on. I made sure to check the spins for that one, and it was #11 in spins on MB this morning, a full 174 spins behind Tim McGraw, and almost 300 spins behind Parmalee. FGL had already fallen to #8 in spins on last Monday's BB chart so I didn't think there was any way they'd be able to remain top 10 in spins (even though I expected them to remain top 10 in audience). But somehow "Dirt" finished #10 in spins on tonight's BB chart, a meager 38 spins ahead of "Shotgun Rider". And of course it didn't help that Trisha had a poor MB to BB translation this week. Hopefully "Prize Fighter" does better this week.

I love Trisha. I love Kelly. And I'd love to hear them both played heavily on country radio. However, I just cannot get behind this song. It is just so bland and boring and something about their voices together on this sounds off as well.

"PrizeFghter" is such a great song! I'm sad that it's not Top 40 though hopefully it gets there next week.

They have 30 second clips up of I Remember You, Met Him In A Motel Room, Your Husband's Cheatin' On Us, and You Can't Trust the Weatherman up on GhostTunes. www.ghosttunes.com/trisha-yearwood/ - beware of the autoplaying video

I have yet to hear this on the radio, but she did do it at the Garth show last night. I like it but it has no chance to succeed on radio sadly.

Finally today the song moves into the plus column for the week (Mon-Fri) on MB. It's up 2 spins and a tiny bit of audience, so the translation will determine whether she regains the bullet on BB. At least she's treading water instead of sinking below the waves. She's nowhere near the top 40 on MB so she can't get any help from countdown spins. At least it looks as if Rum is no longer a candidate for re-entry. So the BB top 40 is at least possible. At least there aren't a ton of new releases about to pass her -- maybe Billy C? Eventually Aldean will get there, but she might have enough weeks to gain enough chart positions before that happens.

Here's a question, how much do you think they're really pushing this song? The visibility of it is basically none with it buried on GhostTunes, not on iTunes, Amazon, Spotify or other services like those. There's no video, not even a live one from one of the tour stops. No public performances outside of concerts. She's did a handful of interviews in the weeks after it was released, but not much. When she does, they talk mostly about Garth or her cooking ventures instead of the music.
It just kind of feels like they pushed it out there and just said Here! with it and that's it. She has talked about the uphill climb she faces with new music since she's female and older, so maybe that's it? I don't know, it just doesn't make sense to me to sign with a major, record and release a song with another high quality (and popular to some) female on it and then almost pretend it doesn't exist. I realize that from the beginning it was going to be an real tough fight releasing this song in this climate, it's just weird.
eta: I see she is making a stop at QVC next week, one day for music and the next for cooking stuff.

Yeah, I agree that Trisha/RCA aren't pushing this nearly as much as they could be. Even though she's putting out an album this year, I do get the sense that music has taken a backburner for her in terms of career priorities. Not that I hold it against her in any way, but it doesn't seem like her heart is in this as much as it used to be. I'm still really anticipating her album though, as she will always be one of my very favourite artists, and I have no doubt that her new album will be excellent.
I'm optimistic about her Billboard top 40 chances this week. FGL will finally go recurrent. If she can pull ahead of Glorina, or if Hunter Hayes goes recurrent, she will hopefully make the top 40. If not, there's always next week, which will be album release week.

I realize that from the beginning it was going to be an real tough fight releasing this song in this climate, it's just weird. I'm a little surprised by the lack of a video -- that seems like a real missed opportunity, but then again, Garth didn't do one for "People Loving People," either. But I think the answer to your question about signing with a major is in the following quote from this Billboard interview:Between this and the fact that her first release from Sony Nashville only has six new songs, I think that someguy is right that Trisha's solo career is perhaps not her top career priority right now, especially with the rapid development of her cooking empire. I guess there's the question of why Trisha is bothering with new music at all right now, but I think that was driven by the coordinated signing with Garth, and perhaps by a willingness to synergistic-ally market the new album with her new cooking line, book, etc.

That makes a lot of sense. I do believe that Trisha's main priority is her cooking at this point, which I really don't blame her for. She has quite the empire going on there. I get the sense that Garth returning to music is the big family priority and if Trisha is involved, then great, but her solo career isn't her main priority.
I'm hoping that if Garth can have a big hit at radio, a Trisha duet will eventually be released as a follow-up, and she'll get a big hit that way.

I think that would have been a much better fit, actually. Garth's version is fine, but I would love to hear what Trisha and her big voice could have done with the song. I don't like Garth's as much as I was hoping to.

And Trisha is 50? Wow, she doesn't look like it at all.

Monday's album release day, so I'm hoping that she can somehow get it together and crack the top 40 this week, but I know that that's a (very) long shot. At this point though, I'd just be happy with her getting her bullet back so that she doesn't go recurrent. Since she's been below #50 on Mediabase for a few days, it's hard (for me at least) to tell exactly how she's doing. Jason Aldean for sure will pass her, and I would imagine that Blake Shelton probably has a good chance, as well.
On another note, I'm curious as to how her album will do in its first week. I'm not really optimistic at all, considering all of the things that it has going against it (she's a woman, over 50, been gone for awhile, doesn't have a big hit, isn't on iTunes...I'm sure there's more, too). I'm thinking 10k, but maybe that's too optimistic (pretty sad when 10k is 'optimistic').
I'm curious to hear the re-recorded hits, too. I wonder if they'll be pretty close to the originals, or noticeably different. I'm hoping for the latter, because there are already a few places to hear the originals. I hope she recorded "She's In Love With The Boy" similarly to how she does it live now these days (especially the 'while me and Junior have a talk part'). It'd be nice to have a studio version of that.

The album is projected to open with 10-12k, which is about what I had expected. Not great, but it is her third hits album (with a lot of the same hits), and all of the things it has going against it.
I do really like it though. The rerecordings of the hits are nice....you can tell that they are different from the originals (or at least I can as a big fan, maybe a more casual listener wouldn't notice it as much), but she still sounds excellent.
I'm actually hoping that they don't release a second single, if she really is going to put out a new album next year. I think that "Prizefighter" was easily the most radio friendly of the new songs, and if that peaked at #42, I can't imagine anything else would best that. I think that a single that didn't chart, or peaked at something like #57, would actually be worse for her in the long run than waiting to release a more radio friendly lead single next year.
That being said, I really like the new songs. "I Remember You" is beautiful, and "Your Husband's Cheatin' On Us" is a great bluesy song, but neither would have any chance at radio in 2014. "You Can't Trust The Weatherman" would probably be her best shot at a hit, but I still think that she should wait for a lead single from a new album, if she is releasing next year. If she's not, then I'd say that "Weatherman" should impact radio the first week or two of January.

Hit After Hit comes in at #7 on the country albums chart with 13,000 sold. Congratulations, Trisha Yearwood!
