Just heard this on iTunes, rather disappointed, especially with Sia's dull and dry performance.

this isn't radio friendly at all and probably won't do much if pushed, but I love his introspective second verse. It's going to be a sad day when Eminem finally steps out of the spotlight and retires, and that seems to be coming soon.
(or at least I hope it is because I don't think he has much left to say and I don't want him to slowly rap himself into obscurity)

I agree this isn't radio friendly (at least for pop). That said, it's good. Very good. That second verse. Shit.

Much like bey's new album, his last one came and went. He needs to slow down before he wears out his welcome.

I mean, do you think before you type or no? He has been around for 10+ years now, I don't think he needs to worry about that.

The album is a retrospective of Shady Records. He will release 1 disc of Shady Greatest Hits (D12, 50 Cent, etc.) and the 2nd disc is new Shady music but he will only be on ~5 solo tracks a couple of features. So it is like The Re-Up or the 8 Mile Soundtrack type thing.

Yeah, this is no big pop hit waiting to happen.
Reaching top 5 on iTunes isn't bad at all for a soundtrack single.

The album doesn't come out for another 3 months, so he's definitely going to have another single out in a few months, I personally like this song, especially when he says "I'd rather make Not Afraid 2, than make another mother fucking We Made You"

I really hope this song can make a dent on Pop radio. I think Sia's hook is actually pretty catchy, and I love that the song has a message. I will never understand why "Beautiful Pain" was not release to Pop radio. I know Em doesn't really care about being played on the radio, but that one had smash written all over it, it certainly wouldn't hurt to have promoted it. I thought "Headlights" was amazing too, but they never really tried too hard to make that one a hit either.

Does he ever release a single without a "featured artist?" For all his success, I would like to see how a 42 year old guy would fair on the pop charts without help from a current "it" artist of the moment. Not Afraid Rap God Bezerk All say hello. Not a song that I've heard....many of his big hits over the years has had a vocalist on it.

Plus, when was the last time Jay Z had a solo hit? He's another one. Yeah, these guys may have had hits 10-12 years ago by themselves but could they now? I'm not a super fan of either artist. I just know their old singles and I may click on a link here from time to time to listen to something current. But it just seems to me that they always have a "guest." It obviously works for them. Maybe Rob Thomas should try to get Adele or someone like here on a song next year and see if he does well at pop radio. Trivia fact - Billie Joe Armstrong and Rob Thomas were both born in Feb 1972; Em was born in Oct 1972. 1972 brought us several big male stars - all making different music.

Just because you haven't heard them doesn't make them any less of a hit. Not Afraid was a #1 (Debuted) song on the Hot 100 and Pop Charts, sold more than 5 million digital downloads, and won a Grammy. Rap God reached #7 on the Hot 100 Bezerk reached #3 on the Hot 100

Not a song that I've heard....many of his big hits over the years has had a vocalist on it. List of Eminem songs WITHOUT a featured vocalist that hit Top 10 on the Hot 100.The Real Slim Shady - #4 Without Me - #2 Cleanin' Out My Closet - #4 Lose Yourself - #1 (12 Weeks) Just Lose It - #6 Whem I'm Gone - #8 Crack A Bottle (ft. Dr. Dre & 50 Cent) - #1 (1 Week) Not Afraid - #1 (1 Week) Berzerk - #3 Rap God - #7 List of Eminem songs WITH a featured vocalist that hit Top 10 on the Hot 100.Shake That (ft. Nate Dogg) - #6 We Made You (ft. Charlemagne Tripp) - #9 Love The Way You Lie (ft. Rihanna) - #1 (7 Weeks) The Monster (Ft. Rihanna) - #1 (4 Weeks) clearly there's a big difference here, and the trend is only really in his last two albums. to say "many of his big hits over the years" had featured vocalists is just wrong.

^"Crack A Bottle" featured Dr. Dre and 50 Cent, but other than that, great list! yeah but they didn't sing on it, which is where the initial poster's statement was. I guess there's the beginning of 50's verse where he's sort of singing but they are both rap features, not singing features.

He rarely ever does any public appearances, especially compared to other A List performers. He is very low key

So? Again, that isn't the point of anything I'm trying to say lol. All I am saying is that he doesn't care about radio, not that no other act can do great without radio. Of course there are plenty of acts out there.

Yes, but there's a big difference in being a top 10 hit on billboard chart when you have big sales on your first week like Eminem and being top 10 on airplay charts. Taylor Swift made a lot of top 10's with Red songs when she released the album, some of them underperformed when they were released as singles. A big name can do some splash when release a new album, and Eminem numbers are generally very very big.
