Josh was one of the main people that I was waiting for new music from, and he didn't disappoint. I just hope radio plays this song!

I love this! But i worry, theres 2 problems with Josh. 1.He's neotraditional 2.He's NOT a bro(thank god) Hes the opposite of what radio wants but i still have hope that he can make SOME kind of dent with this hopefully at least top 20

Awesome! I love Josh. Always happy to have him on the radio, even though he doesn't get a tenth of the radio play or the respect he deserves.

The average fan, they aren't. So if the gatekeepers really dislike bro, they'll play this.

Yes!!!! Another Josh Turner song, just as good as the last 10 or so released!!! Just hope the song cracks the top 20..I don't know if Josh has the fan base anymore to have a successful single in 2014, as opposed to 2005 with his first #1, Your Man. - from the clip, this one sounds like a classic Josh song and hopefully the CD comes out in 2014, but if not I guess we'll have to wait until '15.

This single feels a lot like the stuff Joe Nichols recorded for "Crickets." It has a neo-trad feel with enough contemporary sounds to do well with radio.

@windmillsmusic: Confirmed Cuts and Co-writes for Josh Turner's upcoming album. Source"Bench Seat" (Craig Wiseman) - Puts a new spin on the classic country truck song. "Don't Mean It Ain't Broken" (Liz Rose, Josh Turner, Kris Tyler, Brian White) "Don't Tell The Girl Goodbye" (Tony Martin, Mark Nesler, Josh Turner) "Hers" (Jessi Alexander, Connie Harrington, Steve Moakler) "It's A Damn Shame" (Josh Tuner) "Lay Low" (Ross Copperman, Tony Martin, Mark Nesler) "We're Makin' It" (Jay Knowles, Josh Turner) "Wonder" (writers unknown) - A regret song about what would have happened in a relationship if the character in the song hadn't screwed it all up. Note: Just confirmed cuts. Doesn't mean all of them will make the final album.

This song is a little cliche, but it's still pretty powerful. Strong vocals once again from Josh, and definitely something I can relate too. I hope this does well for him.

Y'know at some point can we stop saying stuff is cliche (this is a general thought, not pointed at you dm2081). I mean cliches are cliches for a reason, because everyone knows and relates to them. I'm always fine with cliches if the song says those cliches in a unique enough way, either through phrases around them or melodies. If we were to expect no cliches every time, the songs would be ALOT harder to relate to!

Obviously most of the possible subject matter has already been covered these days, but there's still ways to make them sound less cliche. I'm not harping on Josh, I think it's a good song and I appreciate the subject matter, but the whole be out in the woods under stars topic seems to have been beaten to death lately. Josh had some previously fresher, more original songs IMO with "Time Is Love", "Why Don't We Just Dance", and "Long Black Train".

I'm liking the Rodney Atkins "Cabin The Woods" and Greg Bates "Lost in Caroline" imagery in this one.. Hope it does well!

Beautiful, beautiful arrangement on this one. The lyrics play on common themes but it's still a great song. It's not as strong of a song as modern-day classics like "Long Black Train" and "Would You Go With Me", but after one listen, I can already say that this is one of my favorite Josh Turner singles. It might be my favorite since "Another Try" or even going all the way back to "Would You Go With Me".
"Lay Low" has lyrics about getting away, but the overall feel is sort of wistful and melancholy, and for me it just really works. I really hope this can get Josh back into the top 10 at least.

This is very good. The production is a bit heavy, though it's done well, so it doesn't really bother me, and it sounds like it should translate well to radio. I already like it more than "Time Is Love," and I'm predicting that this will be another big hit for Josh.

Even though I loved the live version of this song, I was afraid that the traditional feel would not be good for Josh's radio chances. But after hearing the studio version, I think that they did a fine job on the arrangement and production; The latter is a tad loud but overall I think that "Lay Low" has a good shot to return Josh to the top 20, which I'm obviously hopeful of.

This sounds amazing. Josh found a way to make a familiar theme into something fresh and original. It takes his traditional style and makes it more accessible for today's country radio.
I hope radio still welcomes Josh with open arms. He might have the best voice of any active country artist. I didn't follow the charts in 2012 as closely as I do now, but why did "Find Me a Baby" only peak at #42 (Billboard) after his big hit "Time Is Love"?

When that song was out in late 2012/early 2013, there were many debuts from major artists, along with promising newcomers that had radio jumping all over for. I think Josh just got lost in the shuffle. Perhaps the fact that "Find Me A Baby" wasn't a good single choice IMO. Radio may have found it to be corny with it's lyrics, plus he was going to always have slower climbs anyway (even off a #2 single) and that song, with the competition at that time period, didn't help.

I can see "Lay Low" being a hit. It actually is much better than songs in the Pop Country trend. Radio should definitely want to play this.

I never got around to fleshing out why I'm skeptical that a true split in the country format is coming, but part of the reason was/is the cyclical nature of trends at country radio and the way that seemed likely to intersect with the backlash against country radio's party/truck/beer parade. What does that have to do with Josh Turner? I'll get to that in a moment, but it has to do with the timing of this lead single. Earlier this year, we saw Big Machine pull a widely pilloried Tim McGraw single ("Lookin' for That Girl") that didn't seem to be struggling at radio in favor of the more traditional-leaning, nostalgic and family-oriented "Meanwhile Back at Mama's," which did well. Tim has now followed that up with another single that eschews the beat-driven rock sound that has been all the rage at country radio for the past two years, and his album, for the most part, favors reflective, emotive fare with even fewer concessions to "bro country" than Two Lanes of Freedom. Meanwhile, Blake Shelton told Rolling Stone Country that with his upcoming album, he is "bringing back the country" and making more of an effort to sing about "stuff that I haven't addressed in my music as much as I used to, whether it's drinking songs, heartbreak songs or songs about how people treat you." Jake Owen's single choice came as a surprise to many of us because it is a rawer, more traditional vocal on a song that doesn't necessarily scream radio-friendly. And now, we have our trio of Chris Young, Josh Turner, and Easton Corbin all releasing new singles that, while featuring some nods to current radio environment (the singles from Chris and Josh in particular feature a driving tempo and arena-friendly production), showcase their neo-traditional vocal stylings. Of course, it remains to be seen how the latter four singles perform at radio and how all of the aforementioned singles/albums sell. But I posited earlier this year that change at the country radio format would start with artists determined to break free of the shackles of recent trends, and it seems to me that we're in the middle of a concerted push to do that now. And it seems to me that if major labels are signing off on the direction of these singles/albums, then they, too, must sense a market opportunity to capitalize on a return to mainstream country that sounds country and that addresses all aspects of life as country music has always prided itself on doing. Sure, the top-selling upcoming albums are still likely to be the new projects from Jason Aldean and Florida-Georgia Line, and those are not likely to stray too far from the sounds and orientation that have underpinned their success to date. But perhaps the days of the rest of the market following suit are winding down. And if that is the case, if country radio opens back up to a greater diversity of topic and country singles that actually sound country, then there will be fewer country music fans disenfranchised by current country radio. And if that is the case, then the impetus for a format split declines. Admittedly, even in that best case scenario, I'm still skeptical of George Strait's chances on current country radio. It still seems to me that current country radio is ready to push a generation of country artists off to the oldies format &/or Nash Icons, now that that exists. But it seems to me that if country radio trends back to country music, we're more likely looking at oldies/AC Country as a sub-format (much like it is now) embracing the breakout artists of twenty-five years ago and more, while the mainstream country format remains the go-to for everyone else (as opposed to a deeper split between a CHR-esque country favoring rural-themed rock, hip-hop, & pop and a Hot AC country featuring...country and country-hyphenates). To close by getting back on topic, "Lay Low" feels like a hit to me -- it's melodic, accessible, and identifiably Josh Turner by topic, orientation and style. I like it much better than "Time Is Love," which I found to be insipid. I hope that the timing is in fact right for the song, and that Josh becomes a consistent hitmaker on country radio again.

25 adds this week. Ties the new Trisha Yearwood for 4th-most-added (but the label is somehow able to get away with a Country Aircheck ad that says "Most Added," even though anyone can look at the end of the newsletter and see how it actually fared - and, yes, I know that the industry uses "most added" to refer to one of the ten most added songs, but it vexes me.)

"Lay Low" is such an excellent single for Josh Turner!! It fits his voice really nice and should be enough to be a hit single. " "I wanna hear raindrops falling down on a old tin roof" is my favorite lyric and it definitely reminds me of Autumn weather.

Never been a big Josh fan and with new music from some guys I really like (Aldean, McGraw), I didn't expect this to be a song heavy in my play rotation, but I've been burning this song up.
