Name artists you think are overrated, give a reason, and let's discuss. Let's try to keep actual stan wars out of this thread/be respectful of opinions, celebs, etc.
Ariana Grande - A pedophile's dream Taylor Swift - It's Taylor Swift Nicki Minaj - Silicone ass = talent? Iguanna "Iggy" Azalea - Silicone ass and fake southern American accent = talent? Drake - He doesn't actually sing if you think about it One Direction - Let's be real: There is only Zayn I'd say Madonna, but I've never checked out her stuff. She just doesn't appeal to me Elvis - Culture vulture Justin Timberlake - Slight culture vulture. Still not over the Janet t!t incident Jay Z - His verses are s**t now Jennifer Hudson - Screaming is not talent Christina Aguilera - Screaming is not talent
I could go on but I'd let you guys go now.

@spiritanimal - Katy Perry wasn't even a blip on my radar, and I mean that with all the shade in the world. I might have to add Lady Gaga for sales purposes.

I'd say Madonna, but I've never checked out her stuff. She just doesn't appeal to me How can you define her as overrated if you haven't checked out her stuff?

Beyonce ~ I like a couple of singles and she is a good performer, most of the time... I just don't get it. Mariah Carey ~ At least I can halfway understand with her sales/history and I enjoy a lot of her albums (mostly the early ones), but she's always been inferior to Whitney, Aretha, Celine, etc. to me. The whistle notes are pretty, I guess? Not here for the nasally whispering/orgasmic runs songs though. Justin Timberlake ~ Self-absorbed. Britney Spears ~ Like Mariah, I can actually understand why she's popular, but I do think she's overrated when people start treating her like she was artistically groundbreaking. She's not Madonna. Definitey above the Katy Perry's and Rihanna's of the present though. Katy Perry ~ Obvious reasons. Rihanna ~ Just as bad as Katy Perry, but for some reason is liked more because of a really horrendous personality? Sam Smith ~ I don't dislike him, but I don't get the Adele comparisons at all. Demi Lovato ~ She is sort of an afterthought, so maybe not overrated? I don't like her, regardless. She does this weird thing with her lower notes that makes her sounds like a drag queen and always sounds awful live.

Taylor: Good songwriter, awkward performer with little vocal talent. Don't get it. Kanye: Talented, yes. Overrated, hell yeah. Adele: I like her, but I don't think she's as amazing as most say she is. Nirvana: Groundbreaking, sure but IDG the excessive praise for this band Beyoncé: I love her, but even the press calling her Queen B is f**king annoying Britney: Adorable, likeable personality, but still a studio creation. Really don't get how she became an icon.

Britney: Adorable, likeable personality, but still a studio creation. Really don't get how she became an icon. It doesn't really matter who created her or the artist behind "Britney Spears". Whoever you choose to be responsible, it doesn't really change the quality of the artistry, material, or otherwise. Even if the artwork isn't explicitly a result of you, you have to then consider that she's a part of the artwork being presented. So ultimately it's a moot point. Not saying you can't find her overrated, but the above is why she's an icon. Whether or not she was a studio creation is irrelevant.

He also sings sometimes (Hold On We're Going Home, Find Your Love, etc.) but is primarily a rapper. He is good at both. Madonna - Are you kidding? Jay Z - Agreed regarding his most recent releases but his material from 1996-2004 is pretty stellar. Jennifer Hudson - Are you referring to AIATYING? Because it's one of the best vocal performances of the 21st century. Christina Aguilera - I know this one is debated but her vocals on her 1st 3 albums are great.

Then I'll revise this and say I find the praise for her artistry and the artist behind it a tad overrated. I can concede she's iconic, though.

Imagine Dragons. Most of their music bores me and/or has an extremely high burn rate. I don't get it.

I've checked out a few of her songs. Especially those from the 80s, and wasn't impressed enough to go any further. She does nothing for me.

Demi Lovato ~ She is sort of an afterthought, so maybe not overrated? I don't like her, regardless. She does this weird thing with her lower notes that makes her sounds like a drag queen and always sounds awful live. Justin Timberlake seems very self absorbed. But he's pretty good at hiding it I guess. That is one of the worst opening posts I have ever read. That's nice. It's probably been said a thousand times, but College Dropout was Kanye's best. I don't like to talk about Bey very much because it almost always turns into a stan war, but I think she's a good artist. The main reason a lot of people don't like her is because she is too mainstream, in-your-face. Even when she's not touring or recording, people don't seem to get a break when it comes to her. But she has good vocals. Name artists you think are overrated, give a reason, and let's discuss. Let's try to keep actual stan wars out of this thread/be respectful of opinions, celebs, etc. Nicki Minaj - Silicone ass = talent? Because it's one of the best vocal performances of the 21st century. Christina Aguilera - I know this one is debated but her vocals on her 1st 3 albums are great. I listened to some songs like "Moment 4 Life" which were good. Super Bass was okay. I think she needs to redo her music style. And not have as much gimmicks. Maybe then I'll buy an album. *Ye shrug* Drake is okay..at best. Nice beats though. No I'm not kidding with Madge. "AIATYING"? What's that? (I don't check for Jennifer like I used to so I'm completely clueless as to what you're talking about.) I feel Jennifer's vocals are great for Broadway plays and was expecting her to go that route after DreamGirls. But in a "natural setting", i.e. awards shows, I'm not impressed, but it's most likely just me. The same can be said about Christina. And I agree her first songs were cool as shit. I started liking her again after I saw Burlesque honestly. Can we add Adam Levine to the list?

I think there are selected songs that him and his group have been involved in that could be described as such, but overall he is underrated.

I'm surprised so mushy people have mentioned Katy. For the most part, I've yet to hear anyone giving her much praise, let alone overrating her

Originally a hit for Jennifer Holliday in the 1980s.

That movie is the reason why I think she should have gone and done Broadway. Something about her performing like a regular singer doesn't click as much as the thought of her lighting a play/another movie musical up.

Kelly Clarkson and P!nk. Too many pseudo-inspirational boring breakup songs.
