811 SAY YES Elliott Smith
Released: 1997 album: Either/Or (1997)
How crazy life is that he and Jeff Buckley, two of the best singer-songwriters of their generation, would be lost so soon.

I'm finally getting to this! Here goes: 900. "Save Room" - John Legend: I really enjoy what I've heard from John (his new singles + "Ordinary People") so far. This, however, is way better than basically everything I've heard by him, including "All of Me". "All of Me" was killed by overplay, even if it was good. Anyways, this is fantastic. It sounds so fresh. *added to playlist* 899. "Hard to Handle" - The Black Crowes: I had no idea this was an Otis Redding single! It sounds amazing in this version, so I'll definitely have to check his version out. This is so good though. Another really fresh sounding song. *added to playlist* 898. "Brandy (You're a Fine Girl)" - Looking Glass: I really like the sound of this one. It caught me from the first few beats, but then the vocals started. They took it to another level. I really like this one. The backing chorus on the chorus is great. Nice choice. *added to playlist* 897. "Time Has Told Me" - Nick Drake: Oh, this is an interesting change from the last few songs. I really like his vocals and how laid back this song is. *added to playlist* 896. "Summertime Sadness" - Lana Del Rey vs. Cedric Gervais: I love the inclusion of this one. I feel like my drunk comments sum this up best: Landmarx, I'll analyze later, but I really appreciate your inclusion of "Summertime Sadness". Lana is perfect and so is her remix. If if didn't love your list (and you as a poster) already, I most certainly do now. Lana is one of my favorite artists of all time and I'm actually surprised to see her here. Then again I'm not, however, as your taste is flawless. And I know I'm drunk, but I do mean this. <3 <3 *already in playlist* 895. "Hang Up My Rock and Roll Shoes" - Chuck Willis: This is really, really good. It's fun, and it has a nice vibe. *added to playlist* 894. "I Got a Line on You" - Spirit: I really like the instrumental on this one. The vocals are nice, too, but the instrumental is more pleasurable. This one is also fun. Nice selection. *added to playlist* 893. "A Child's Claim to Fame" - Buffalo Springfield: I like this one more than the other Buffalo Springfield song that was included. I don't know, maybe it is just livelier. Anyways, the point is I like it. :) *added to playlist* 892. "MoneyGrabber" - Fitz & the Tantrums: Older material from them! I've only heard their newer material ("Out of My League" and "The Walker" are perfect imo), so it is really nice to hear this. It is good, and I love it. I'll have to explore their discography more, especially since this one is so different from "Out of My League". *added to playlist* 891. "You're Makin' Me High" - Toni Braxton: Toni Braxton. <3 I love her, and I love this one. It isn't my favorite from her (that would be "Un-break My Heart"), but this is pretty close. Too good. *already in playlist* 890. "Just a Little Too Much" - Ricky Nelson: This is too good. I love the vibe, and his voice is really, really good. It is also very sweet. Another fun one, I'm so glad you included it. *added to playlist* 889. "People Who Died" - The Jim Carroll Band: I wasn't expecting this one to sound like this! It's.... interesting to say this list. I think I like it. It is upbeat, which I tend to prefer in music. The theme is so weird though. I don't really know what to think of it, lol. The instrumental and the theme don't seem like they would work together, but it is what gives this one its charm. Final conclusion: I enjoy it. *added to playlist* 888. "Hurdy Gurdy Man" - Donovan: The name of this one is interesting. It is a strange transition from "People Who Died". It is softer, and the vocals seem distorted. This is my least favorite of the set so far, but it is still good. I feel like this one will be nice for busy listening, as I have said about many others. *added to playlist* 887. "The Rockafeller Skank" - Fatboy Slim: I've only heard this once, and I didn't care for it the first time. This time is considerably better. I really like how there is so much going on. Nice choice. Also, I hope "Praise You" makes it in. Too good. *added to playlist* 886. "Don't Take Your Guns to Town" - Johnny Cash: Johnny Cash. <3 You already know I really enjoy his work. I've never heard this one, however. I'm really glad I'm getting a good representation of his discography. I really how it tells a story, and captures that cowboy theme. Nice choice. *added to playkist* 885. "I Hear You Knockin'" - Smiley Lewis: Oh, his voice is interesting (in a good way). I really like the classic vibe of this one. I just appreciate the inclusion of 50's songs in general. I haven't heard much from this time period, and I have enjoyed most of what I have. This isn't an exception. *added to playlist* 884. "Silence is Golden" - The Tremeloes: I really like how their voices work as a chorus. The chorus (like the actual chorus) is my favorite part, and this was just a really nice listen. *added to playlist* 883. "Forty Miles of Bad Road" - Duane Eddy: Another instrumental! I don't have much to say about it, but I like this one. *added to playlist* 882. "Young Americans" - David Bowie: David Bowie! I don't know a lot of his discography (I'll have to listen), so it is nice to get to hear something new from him. I don't like this as much as say "Let's Dance" or "Fame", but I still really like it. 881. "Tell Me a Tale" - Michael Kiwanuka: Apparently this one is really recent. Oh, how did I miss this one? I've never heard of him, which is a shame. His voice is great, and the song is just perfect. I'll have to look into more from him. *added to playlist* 880. "Jimmy Mack" - Martha & the Vandellas: Martha & the Vandellas. <3 "Dancing in the Street" and "Heat Wave" are classics. This one is really good too. I just really like their sound, lol. 779. "Impossible Germany" - Wilco: This is really mellow, and I appreciate that it is. It's relaxing. Nice choice. *added to playlist* 778. "Flava in Ya Ear" - Craig Mack ft. The Notorious B.I.G., L.L. Cool J, Busta Rhymes, & Rampage: Another weird transition, lol. Anyways, I really like old school rap and hip-hop, and this one is really cool. I'm sure the inclusion of the remix is better than just including the original. *added to playlist* 777. "Just Out of Reach (Of My Two Empty Arms)" - Solomon Burke: This one is nice. His vocals are really good. The diversity in this list is really evident between this, "Tell Me a Tale", "Jimmy Mack", "Flava in Ya Ear", and "Impossible Germany" all being in a bunch. Lol. Nice choice. *added to playlist* 776. "The Dangling Conversation" - Simon & Garfunkel: I've really like everything I've heard from them, and I like this one too. Their music is really relaxing, and I really like it. *added to playlist* This set is one of my favorites already. I really hate to cut it short (because I'm so behind on this, lol), but I figured a nice group of 25 should cut it. I'l probably try to get caught up later in the week, as the next few days are crammed with tests. Anyways, nice selections, and I look forward to listening to the next batch. :)

Something for me to look forward to later today, then! Or, you know, some other time. 820 - Harrison's solo catalogue has many a strong single, and this is undoubtedly one of the best. I will never tire of it. 819 - Never heard of it or them before. So cool. I am better for having heard this. 818 - One of so many a great song by them. Nice choice. 817 - Love it. I like many of Genesis's big hits from later years, but songs like this and "I Know What I Like (In Your Wardrobe)" are the ones that just connect on that deeper level. 816 - Excellent selection from one of rock's early greats. Of her early period hits, this is likely my favorite. 815 - Had no idea this song had caused issues for the group... Wikipedia'ed. Interesting. But I love this song and always will. 814 - Heh, a nod to Burl Ives. I can dig it. 813 - Know the song, but don't think I knew Phillips recorded it. Awesome rendition. 812 - Not well versed on Scott Walker's solo material, but this song lives up to the reputation. I approve. 811 - Excellent. 810 - Yeah, love her version of this. It's perfect. Not that Orbison's is any too shabby. 809 - Very nice way to end this installment. Thanks for continuing the series!

811 makes me tear up every time I hear it. It reminds me of how much I hate myself, it's just so emotional and sad.

Finally I'll make some more progress on this, lol.
875. "South Street" - The Orlons: I really like this, and how upbeat it is. It has a really nice vibe, and their voices work together well. That sax is everything. Good choice. *added to playlist*
874. "I Just Wasn't Made For These Times" - The Beach Boys: The Beach Boys! <3 I love so many of their songs (how can you not?), but I've never heard this one. It doesn't disappoint. It isn't near my favorite from them (I think that would be either "Good Vibrations" or "Wouldn't It Be Nice"), but I like the change of pace from what I've heard from them. The instrumental is really nice, especially how it switches up so much. *added to playlist*
873. "I Think It's Going To Rain Today" - Randy Newman: This is really good. Slow, but good. His voice is great. It has a nice sense of emotion to it. I haven't heard this song in any form, so I'm glad you included it. Nice choice. *added to playlist*
872. "If You Were Here" - Thompson Twins: I really like the production on this one. The vocals have an interesting effect on them too. This song just has that classic 80s sound and I love it. *added to playlist*
871. "Last Goodbye" - Jeff Buckley: I only know him from "Hallelujah", which is amazing. This, however, is also amazing. I really like how different it is from "Hallelujah". I'll have to check more of his discography out. *added to playlist*
870. "Together Again" - Janet Jackson: Janet! <3 While this isn't my favorite from her ("That's The Way Love Goes"), this one is really close. I love the production, and her vocals are on point. The Velvet Rope in general is just too good. The video for this is one of my favorites from her. I also really like the dedication of the song to her friend. *already in playlist*
869. "Harper Valley P.T.A." - Jeannie C. Riley: Childhood! This was a staple for our drives. It is really good, so I didn't mind it lol. I really like how the protagonist of the song fires back at the judgmental PTA. This song is a classic. *already in playlist*
868. "Heaven Is A Place On Earth" - Belinda Carlisle: First off, I had no idea that she was the lead singer of the Go-Gos. That was an interesting fact I learned today. Second, this song may be the epitome of cheesy, but it is perfect. I'm so glad you included it. It is one of my favorites songs of that entire decade. It just sticks with you. *already in playlist*
867. "I Had Too Much To Dream (Last Night)" - The Electric Prunes: This is one of my favorites that has been introduced to me through your list. I just really like it. I especially really like the introduction of it. Oh, the portion where it picks up is good too. It is just an all around keeper, so I'm glad to see it here. I'm also kind of shocked to see that it was released in 1966. It sounds ahead of its time. *added to playlist*
866. "Bus Stop" - The Hollies: This one isn't my favorite, but I like it regardless. The vocals and the instrumentals work well together to create a good vibe. It'll be nice for casual listening. *added to playlist*
865. "Brand New Lover" - Dead or Alive: I prefer "You Spin Me Round" (childhood classic), but this is really good too. Maybe I should check out more of their discography. I love this genre, and they are two for two with me. *added to playlist*
864. "Take Me In Your Arms (Rock Me A Little While)" - Kim Weston: Oh, I love her voice. This sounds so familiar, but I can't place it. I also love the inclusion of another Motown tune. I had never heard this, and I'm glad I did. This genre still remains one of my all time favorites. Too good. *added to playlist*
863. "Never Ending Song Of Love" - Delaney & Bonnie: I wasn't into this one at first, but through the course of the listen I grew to enjoy it. It has a pleasant mid-tempo sound, and I just like the theme. This is one of my favorite new listens. Great choice. *added to playlist*
862. "Express Yourself" - N.W.A.: Old school rap! I also know this one, or at least the chorus of it (even if it is sampled). I really like the inclusion of this. This song itself is really good, but the eclectic nature of this list helps to keep the entertainment factor high. I can see why it is regarded as one of the best hip hop songs of all time. I'll have to check out more of their material. Nice choice. *added to playlist*
861. "I'm Tore Down" - Freddie King: I do know this one! It is one of the ones I didn't realize that I knew though. Anyways, that instrumentation is too perfect. His soulful voices are amazing as well. I'm glad you included it. *added to playlist*
860. "Basket Case" - Green Day: I am shamefully not familiar with much of Green Day's discography, particularly their older side of it. Thus, I'm glad this is here. I like it more than most of what I've heard from them. *added to playlist*
859. "If That's Your Boyfriend (He Wasn't Last Night)" - Meshell Ndegeocello: Oh wow. This is really, really good. I really like her vocals, and they work really well with the instrumental (which has a really rich sound already). So good. *added to playlist*
858. "Blue Monday" - Fats Domino: I've heard of Fats Domino, but I had never heard anything by him. Obviously a mistake. This is too good. His vocals are my favorite part of the song. *added to playlist*
857. "Hello Walls" - Faron Young: This one isn't my favorite, but his voice is nice, and it allows me to enjoy it. It'll make for a good relaxing listen. I do enjoy this genre as a whole, however. *added to playlist*
856. "Oh Happy Day" - The Edwin Hawkins Singers: Oh, I know this one. The vocals on this are really nice. I'm not really religious, but if I had to pick a favorite hymn it would be this one (due to childhood experiences). This version makes it so much better. The chorus is so good. Nice inclusion. *added to playlist*
855. "Magic Carpet Ride" - Steppenwolf: I know this one! I had forgotten about it though. I just really like it for some reason, and I'm glad you included it. That instrumental segment is really good. *added to playlist*
854. "Get Down On It" - Kool & The Gang: Kool and The Gang is really good. I know this one, and I really enjoy it. I just really enjoy their sound as a whole. "Celebration" is probably my favorite from them. *already in playlist*
853. "Don't Call Us, We'll Call You" - Sugarloaf: I like this one. The vocals are great, and I really like the instrumental too. The dialing sounds really help to give the song flavor. This is a pleasant listen. *added to playlist*
852. "All The Small Things" - Blink-182: Another one I knew. I never really cared for it when I first heard it, but I have grown to like it recently. It makes for a really fun listen. I don't know why I disliked it, though. Nice choice. *already in playlist*
851. "Rockin' Pneumonia And The Boogie Woogie Flu (Part 1)" - Huey "Piano" Smith & The Clowns: This one grabbed me from first listen. I really like how upbeat it is. Just an all around great listen. *added to playlist*
850. "If Your Girl Only Knew" - Aaliyah: Regretfully I don't know much of her discography (I intend to change this soon), but everything I have heard from her has been amazing. She was such a talent. I hadn't heard this one, but it is a great listen. I really like Timbaland's earlier production, and Aaliyah's vocals are great. The chill vibe of the song really helps me to enjoy it. It's a shame I can't add this to my playlist.
849. "Lonely Days" - Bee Gees: See comment about Aaliyah. I do know their Saturday Night Fever related material and "Tragedy", however. This is so different from everything else I've heard from them, and it leads me to want to listen to more. I really like the emotional ups and downs, as you said. *added to playlist*
848. "You Make Me Feel Brand New" - The Stylistics: I know this one! I didn't realize that I did. I will have to check out the other song you recommended. This is too good. Totally agree with your comments. *added to playlist*
847. "Ready Or Not" - The Fugees: Another one I know, although only from a UK number ones countdown. I need to look more into their discography. I really enjoy it, and I'm glad you included it. Lauryn Hill's vocals are my favorite element of the song. *already in playlist*
846. "Mr. Brightside" - The Killers: Again, you comments are on point. I love The Killers, and this is a nice standout in their discography. I'm so glad they were represented here. *already in playlist*
845. "Luka" - Suzanne Vega: This is really good. Her voice is nice, and the narration is great as well. *added to playlist*
Anyways, that wraps it up for tonight. It was a pleasure listening, and I hope to finish this set soon. The list still remains amazing, Landmarx! :)

My comments are no problem, Landmarx. I really like following along and being able to discover new music. :)
844. "Sixteen Tons" - Tennessee Ernie Ford: This is weird but I really like it. The snapping adds a nice effect. I found myself snapping with it, lol. The lyrics are interesting too. Good choice. *added to playlist*
843. "Rock The Boat" - The Hues Corporation: I think I know this one actually. Anyways, regardless of if I do or not, I really enjoy this one. The production is upbeat and fun, which makes the song a really nice listen. The chorus is infectious. *added to playlist*
842. "You Beat Me To The Punch" - Mary Wells: Oh, she did "My Guy". I haven't heard anything else from her, so this is a nice chance to hear something else. I really like it. It isn't as instant as "My Guy", but it sounds like a grower. It is still a great song, regardless. *added to playlist*
841. "The Last Farewell" - Roger Whittaker: This is okay, but more on the dull side for me. He has a nice voice, and the story isn't bad. I don't think I would seek it out to listen to it on a daily basis. Lol. This could make for a nice relaxing listen, though, and I just love expanding my library, so I'll go ahead and add it too, *added to playlist*
840. "Some Nights" - fun.: This is one of my favorite songs of 2012. It's just great. I like it better than "We Are Young". It deserved to smash, and I'm glad it did. I'm also glad it is here. *already in playlist*
839. "Let The Little Girl Dance" - Billy Bland: Oh, this is nice. It has that nice retro feel to it. It isn't "bland" at all. ;) Anyways, great choice. The instrumental is great. *added to playlist*
838. "Society's Child (Baby I've Been Thinking)" - Janis Ian: I really like this one. Her vocals are so good, and the instrumentation is quirky, which keeps me interesting. It has a really mellow sound to it, which I like. The buildup to the chorus is great. Another new listen favorite. *added to playlist*
837. "Watermelon Man" - Herbie Hancock: Oh, I know this one. I'm loving the inclusion of another instrumental song. Nice choice, even if it is a tad long. It'll be good for relaxing. *added to playlist*
836. "The Passenger" - Iggy Pop: Oh, I'm pretty sure I know this one! I know I've heard it at least once before. I had forgotten about it until now, but it is a good choice. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. *added to playlist*
835. "Can't Hardly Wait" - The Replacements: This is one of my favorites so far. I was hooked from the start. I just really like it for some reason. Fun listen, good choice. *added to playlist.
834. "Day Is Done" - Peter, Paul & Mary: I've never heard this one, but I like what I have heard from Peter, Paul & Mary. This one doesn't disappoint. It is a really nice listen. The chorus is my favorite part. Oh, the clapping at the end too. Perfect ending. *added to playlist*
833. "September When It Comes" - Rosanne Cash: This is really good. I love Johnny Cash, so it was nice hearing him on it. She also has a really nice voice, and the song as a whole is just pleasant. I figured she was related to him, but I had no idea she is his daughter. *added to playlist*
832. "Li'l Red Riding Hood" - Sam The Sham & The Pharaohs: This is... interesting? It is just a fun listen, and I think I enjoy it. Lol. It is nice to listen to a song that isn't as serious every once in a while. The retelling is interesting. *added to playlist*
831. "You Talk Too Much" - Joe Jones: I really like his voice. The song itself is a fun listen. The lyrics are funny, and very truthful about some people. *added to playlist*
830. "Shining Star" - The Manhattans: I didn't realize I knew this one! Whatever, it's a classic. The chorus is beyond perfect. I'm so glad this is here, and I'm glad it was brought back to my attention. *added to playlist*
829. "Ventura Highway" - America: This isn't my favorite, but it is a nice listen regardless. Again, the chorus is my favorite, although the "doo doo do" parts are great. *added to playlist*
828. "I Want Candy" - The Strangeloves: I've never heard this version before, but I really liked the Bow Wow Wow version. This is far more fun than that one. Your comment sums this one up nicely. Fantastic choice. *added to playlist*
827. "It's In The Way That You Use It" - Eric Clapton: I really like the vocals on this one. I can see how it would be considered a classic had it been released earlier. Nice choice. *added to playlist*
826. "Heavenly Day" - Patty Griffin: Beautiful. Thanks for this Americana 'meal', Landmarx. Her vocals are so, so good. The last minute or so of this song is everything. *added to playlist*
825. "Trouble Every Day" - The Mothers Of Invention: This is really good too. I like the vocals (especially how they are layered), but I also really like the instrumental. Just an all around great listen. *added to playlist*
824. "Have A Little Faith In Me" - John Hiatt: This is one of my favorite new listens so far. His voice is great, and I really love the piano. Do you sound like a broken record talking about underrated artists? No. It's true. *added to playlist*
823. "Back To Life (However Do You Want Me)" - Soul II Soul: Perfect. This song is so good. The chorus is infectious. I actually knew it, but I didn't realize it. Anyways, it is a great choice, and I'm glad it is here. *added to playlist*
822. "They All Ask'd For You" - The Meters: I like this one. The whole song is just a fun listen. I like the animals theme, lol. *added to playlist*
821. "I Stand Accused" - Isaac Hayes: His vocals are really soulful, and I love it. I also love how relaxing this one is. The theme is really nice, too. *added to playlist*
820. "What Is Life" - George Harrison: I like the guitar riffs that you mentioned. I just really like this one, period. Good choice. *added to playlist*
819. "Mean Machine Chant/Mean Machine" - The Last Poets: Oh, this one is strange but I really like it. The quirkiness of it grabbed me from the start. The silence towards the beginning of the song took me by surprise, and then the song started again. I love the instrumental on this. Great choice. *added to playlist*
818. "It's All Right" - The Impressions: I know this one, and I love it.It was a childhood favorite of mine. It is such a feel good song, and it has a great message. Fantastic choice. *already in playlist*
817. "The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway" - Genesis: Phil Collins. <3 I enjoy his vocals, especially on his solo work. They're nice here too. This is a really interesting listen. *added to playlist*
816. "Sweet Nothin's" - Brenda Lee: Oh, I do know this one due to Kanye West. However, I much prefer this. Her voice is really nice, and the production is cool. I've only ever heard "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree" by her (I knew her name sounded familiar, I had to look it up), so it is cool to hear something by her that isn't holiday related. I'll have to listen to more of her discography. *added to playlist*
815. "Smile A Little Smile For Me" - The Flying Machine: I like the chorus on this one. It is one of my favorite slower songs that you have included. *added to playlist*
814. "Funny Way Of Laughin'" - Burl Ives: Another artist I only know from holiday music, it is nice to hear something else from him. I like his vocals, and I like the song more than pretty much all of the songs that I have heard from him before. *added to playlist*
813. "Home Is Where The Hatred Is" - Esther Phillips: This is too good. Her voice is fantastic. The instrumental is so relaxing. Love this. Great choice. *added to playlist*
812. "Big Louise" - Scott Walker: This isn't an instant love, but I feel like it'll grow on me. I think it just because it is slower. I can appreciate his voice, though. *added to playlist*
811. "Say Yes" - Elliott Smith: This is really chill, and his vocals are nice. I like how short it is too, because it keeps me interested. I appreciate the inclusion of this. *added to playlist*
810. "Blue Bayou" - Linda Ronstadt: I've heard of her, but I haven't heard too much from her. I do need to look more into her discography though, as I really like her vocals on this one. The chorus is great. *added to playlist*
809. "Lonely Teardrops" - Jackie Wilson: I like how retro this sounds. The "shoo do wop wop" parts really help to make this song a pleasant listen for me. *added to playlist*
I hope I don't sound like too much of a broken record in these, with me not knowing most of these and all. I'm looking forward to the next batch! :)

Great set, as always. I try to sample some of the songs I don't know, but couldn't do that this time because of the excellent inclusion of "Heaven Is A Place On Earth"!!! <3 It's just been on repeat in the background....truly amazing! <3
Can't wait for the next set!
