Her next single featured on her Title EP dropping Tuesday.
Fatima has choreographed and directed the video for this song as well.

Love the vibe and sound of this again. Wish the lyrics didn't come straight from the 50s, too--I think it would have been cooler with a more modern approach. Could still become a wedding staple because it has such a cute and infectious melody and production to it. Very happy-sounding.

Good song, consistent, from a musical standpoint, with what she did on All About That Bass (save for less calypso influence).
But the message is far less notable - actually sort of lame. It wouldn't be a Top 10 hit on its own.
So the success of this will tell us whether All About That Bass got itself over as a star or Meghan Trainor over as a star.

Waaaaaaaay catchier than "All About That Bass" on first listen, despite the former being such a grower. Love the "modern Motown" vibe and how classy this sounds. Could still become a wedding staple because it has such a cute and infectious melody and production to it. We're agreeing again But yeah, this would be an excellent choice for the bride and groom's first dance.

This vaguely reminds me of this: The song better have similar co-writers or they've got some lawsuits. Those are REALLY similar. That being said, Olly's song was also a huge retro pop song so he probably borrowed from the same influence.

Claude Kelly and Steve Robson produced this song; I wouldn't be surprised if they worked with Meghan as well.

This sounds like a smash, but I wonder if her full-length album will have the same sound as its two singles. I don't think that would be a good idea.

This is instantly catchy for me. I love this. I hope this can smash. Meghan has such talent, and a very nice voice. So far, she's two for two.

Waaaaay more instantly into this! She's going in the right direction for me. But wow, new single already? She/her label seem to be trading audio premieres in exchange for EP press. This one actually premiered on Perez Hilton yesterday, and he's been promoting the hell out of her (almost to a comical extent). MTV posted the title track (Title) today. (it's also really freaking good...and has a rap verse) That said, the reception to Dear Future Husband was huge at her live shows, so it makes sense to start hyping this as a second single. I also think it makes sense to get new music out there so that she's not immediately written off as a one-hit wonder. Definitely doesn't make sense to do the Nico & Vinz strategy of making none of your other songs available in the uS.

I prefer All about that bass, this is too retro (in all the senses of the word) for me, but it's catchy enough to be a good follow up. I remember almost everybody screaming one hit wonder when all about that bass was released but i'm almost sure she will get at least a decent second hit

Let's not lose sight that both Olly & Meghan are sampling Dion's #1 Classic...that's the influence that you're hearing. I'm sure they've paid up on all the rights. But, dam this Trainor trying to bring us ALL back to the 60's (let's not make this a THING)

The only credited co-writers on "Dance with Me Tonight" are Olly Murs, Claude Kelly and Steve Robson, and I'm preeeetttyyy sure none of them wrote on "Runaround Sue."

This is a lot like the Olly song; I feel like I should be singing that over this instrumentation. The song is cute, but I don't expect much of an impact. Thematically, it's lacking in a way "All About That Bass" isn't. The latter while retro sounding still feels fresh because of the lyrics and message.

I really like this; it puts that stupid "Bass" song to SHAME.

I really like this; it puts that stupid "Bass" song to SHAME. I feel like this always happens with safer, less memorable, but still solid second singles. I obviously can't tell someone which song to like more, but it bothers me a little when people ignore that the polarizing element of the big first hit--the thing that might have made that person hate it--was why it was so disruptive and successful. There is no universe in which "Team" was a more effective song than "Royals." No universe in which "Black Widow" is more effective than "Fancy." Could you like Team better than Royals? Sure. Black Widow better than Fancy? Of course. But since this is a board devoted to discussing the commerciality--not just quality--of music, I feel like you have to be mindful of that when calling something better or worse. And definitely no way this is better than "All About That Bass." It's good, but as I and others have said, it just pales in comparison from a thematic and resonance standpoint. The lyrics are all fun, fresh and even sexy at times, but there's nothing that's going to enter the zeitgeist the way lyrics like "that bootay bootay," "bass" "i'm bringing booty back" and "my momma she told me" did. Again, I'm a huge Meghan fan, and I really do love this song. I just feel like this idea of liking the safe second single better than the disruptive first single is kind of cliched.

^^^ Excellent post.
I like this quite a lot, I think it's really cute, but I agree with you. And I agree with your point: You can like "Team" or "Black Widow" more, but it doesn't have THE THING that made the first single disruptive smashes.

This isn't too bad. Way better than "All About That Bass". This reminds me a lot of "Dance With Me Tonight" by: Olly Murs.

Somehow, this reminds me of an Eliza Doolittle song. And also that Olly Murs song.
