Well, it won't be the first time it will be an overreaction to ironic lyrics, i remember Where have all the cowboys gone back in the day. It's curious because people never react to other type of lyrics, Steal my girl has really outdated lyrics, and half mainstream rap songs have offensive lyrics, and i remember a recent Trey Songz single who used a derogatory misoginisty line in the chorus and apart of the usual he is so handsome i never heard any other commentary Even the skinny b****s lyric is not necessary an insult to all skinny girls (even without the just playing) alot of songs have creepy lyrics if you actually analyzed them and i would agree so are some of Meghan's though i am a fan of hers because i like her sound, songs, vocals, personality and some of her lyrics are also quite clever. M5's Animals has the creepiest, ickiest lyrics in ages of a pop smash and it didn't stop that. There's nothing wrong with the lyrics on this one. If anything it's her saying to a potential suitor "yeah I know I'm kind of a pain in the ass, here's your fair warning."

There are a lot of creepy lyrics in music, Animals is a typical stalker song like Every breath you take was in its day. Animals gets extra points for its creepy video. I remember a hit in the 90's by Nick Cave and Kylie Minogue which was a haunted and beautiful ballad about a love crime (and the video was beautiful and creepy at the same time).
Anyway, there's a big difference between telling a story in your song (even if you use first person) and advocating for that behaviour.
I don't know the reason, but the truth is some people feel the need to be offended by Meghan (which it seems a innofenssive girl). Rap an hip hop are full of deeply offenssive lyrics (and of course there are songs like Trey Songz's Smartphones that simply offends inteligence) but for some reason pop singers have the ability of offend way more people sometimes not even intentionally

I will never get over the radio censoring of "Candyman". Crazy double standards for female pop singers.

Thematically, this reminds me of a modern-day pop version of Shania's "Any Man of Mine".

That is a very good and cute video. This one happens to have replay value to me, because it has that cute and funny scenes, as well as this is a good and catchy song. Meghan never disappoints me with her videos. I like it better than the Lips Are Movin video, but all of her videos are well done, and the song is great. Let's see if this can have a lot of success like her past two singles. I'm hoping.

Annoying video. The idea is cute in theory but it's also kind of... I don't know, hypocritical given her whole "body-positive" schtick (turning down the guy 'cuz he's not strong enough or whatever).

I don't know, hypocritical given her whole "body-positive" schtick (turning down the guy 'cuz he's not strong enough or whatever). yeah, that scene felt a little weird...but it's not like the guy she actually picked at the end is some big, buff, beautiful model. I think the carnival guy's fail was more about "if you look/act all big and tough, but can't back it up, I'm not interested" the guy she chooses is (debatably) the least physically attractive, but I think the message is that he "got" her the most - just bring me a pizza to enjoy together at home. don't make some super-fancy tiny meal, don't try to impress me with strength you don't even have, and don't take me on a boat...because I get sea-sick/you're not a very good sailor?

Still funny seeing all the "this sounds like 'Dance With Me Tonight'" comments on YouTube.
It's ridiculous that people know an Olly Murs song that never made a dent in the US but not a classic like Runaround Sue.
The video itself is pretty solid. Not as instantly memorable as All About That Bass, but it's funny, visually stunning (she's 3/3 in terms of capturing color) and exactly what you'd expect from the song.
Definitely the best of the recent anticipated pop videos (Style, One Last Time, I Really Like You, I Want You to Know, etc).

I like the video and starting to warm up to the song. It got from 'i hate it' to 'it's okay". Hope she sends this song top five for the third time in a row.

I like this interpretation. I think her drooling over pics of the guys still makes her look shallow, but I guess that was needed in order to get the PoF product placement in....

You are forgetting that not all comments are from the USA (she is a global artist now) and Olly Murs is big in UK and Ireland and some european countries, so there are a lot more chances that people know Dance with me tonight than Runaround Sue

The video is really cute and visually pleasing, tbh. It's colorful, but not the "give you seizure" colorful, all the right color in all the right place, I guess.
About making the same song become a hit the third time, I think Meghan is doing a great job in it, tbh. If Katy Perry could become an international popstar with 9 #1's in US by doing it, why not? It's better than trying to put out something different and ending up like Carly Rae Jepsen despite having a pop perfection as an album. Like someone had said in I Really Like You thread, why be a one-hit wonder when you can make a lasting carreer out of it?
And by the way, if a guy or girl bring me pizza to propose to me, I will say yes without thinking much.
