From Billboard: Lecrae vs. Jhene Aiko for No. 1 on Next Week's Billboard 200
Rapper Lecrae is battling R&B singer Jhene Aiko for the top slot on the albums chart.
Grammy-winning rapper Lecrae and rising R&B star Jhene Aiko are both on course for the No. 1 position on next week's Billboard 200 chart.
Industry sources forecast the former's new album, Anomaly, to sell around 75,000 to 80,000 in the week ending Sept. 14. Aiko's latest, Souled Out, might shift around 70,000 to 75,000.
The Billboard 200's new top 10 will be revealed on Wednesday, Sept. 17.
Both Lecrae and Aiko have visited the Billboard 200's top 10 once previously: Lecrae did it with 2012's Gravity (No. 3) and Aiko sailed into the region with 2013's Sail Out EP (No. 8). Lecrae has also scored five No. 1 albums on the Gospel Albums chart, stretching back to 2008's Rebel.
Other albums heading for sizable debuts on the new Billboard 200 include Ryan Adams' self-titled album (40,000 or so), Lee Brice's I Don't Dance (40,000) and Dustin Lynch's Where It's At (35,000).

YOUR TOP 15: Competition for the #1 spot on next week’s HITS Album Sales Chart remains tight between Lecrae and Jhené Aiko. A third player (and this week’s chart champ), Maroon 5, may enter the race come Monday, thanks largely to a bundled offering from Ticketmaster. Meanwhile, no fewer than eight new releases will debut in the Top 10. Here’s how it looks headed into the weekend: 1. Lecrae (Reach) 75-80k 2. Jhené Aiko (Def Jam) 70-75k 3. Maroon 5 (222/Interscope) 55-60k 4. Ryan Adams (Blue Note) 38-43k 5. Lee Brice (Curb) 38-43k 6. Jeezy (Def Jam) 30-35k 7. Interpol (Matador) 30-35k 8. Dustin Lynch (Broken Bow) 28-32k 9. Banks (Harvest) 27-30k 10. Robert Plant (Nonesuch) 24-27k 11. Guardians of the Galaxy: Awesome Mix, Vol. 1 (Hollywood) 23-26k 12. Rittz (Strange Music) 21-24k 13. Vance Joy (Atlantic) 21-24k 14. Frozen (Walt Disney) 21-24k 15. Ariana Grande (Republic) 21-24k In other news, the new Apple Watch will not make reading this website any more bearable. (9/11p)Poor Ariana.

Yup. Frozen out of the Top 10.
Not a bad drop for Maroon 5.
Wow. All of the Top 15 sell over 20k.

3 huge hits and a promo blitz unlike anything I've seen in a while, and Ariana is already out of the top ten? She seems to be performing about even with her first album which is good at least, but the higher-ups had to be expecting more than this.

I know its just an EP, but Meghan couldn't pull bigger numbers? That's crazy. I would think she would be in the race for the #1 spot considering how huge her hit is. Smh That is OUTSTANDING. She has almost no recognition factor as she has not had many public appearances and only has 1 song. For her to get 10,000 people to spend more than $1.29 on something from her is amazing

I'm a little surprised by Ariana's drop as well. I thought she would still be Top 10 with 30 thousand in sales.

Ariana's drop does not surprise me. I honestly feel the bad press that her brother is receiving could be affecting her sales. If her brother was actually a decent human being, it could have worked in her favor and she could have gain a gay following due to her brother being openly gay. However, his mouth will do more damage for both of them than help them in the long run.

The issue with AG is that she has 3 Top 5 singles and people have opted to buy singles and stream. That isn't necessarily a bad thing. Selling albums isn't necessarily the be-all. It's OK to be a singles artist.

Her brother, Frankie Grande is on Big Brother and anyone who watches that show knows that he always makes a colossal case of the fact that Ariana is his sister.

Especially with album sales what thy are these days. Digital-track sales may not be as profitable, but perhaps streaming compensates for that.

Her brother stinks but I don't think enough people know he exists for that to have that much of an effect. Ariana needs to right the ship on her press and just keep releasing hit singles. I wasn't really disappointed with her opening week but her overall numbers shouldn't already be leaning toward treading water with her debut.

I think they play hand in hand because her bad press is about her diva-ish way and things like that can be witness in her brother on a show so it is a bit hard for her to dispute it due to a family member displaying it on national television every week.

All 4 of the songs on the trainor EP are in the ITunes top 100 so apparently people are buying them individually and not as the full EP. Of course they have no incentive to buy it as an EP because Epic decided to price it at the equal price of buying the singles separately. So it's not that there isn't interest there for her

I had no idea, but I can see where it certainly doesn't help her. I still don't think it impacts AG's sales though - if that were the case single sales and streaming would be down significantly, which is not the case. I think the bigger issue with AG is that they try to dress her provocatively (like "Problem" single cover) and she is clearly not comfortable with that - see "Problem" video. Let the girl sing - not every female artist needs that kind of image to be success. (Problem would've been a smash regardless.) While I didn't like her first era music, I think this direction has been very positive and really like what I've heard. Oh, yeah, I forgot about the Sam & Cat debacle from a few months ago. That was definitely bizarre.

I wonder how much Michelle Williams will sell. "Journey To Freedom" is currently at number 65 on iTunes... maybe 10K?
Also who knows whether holding "Say Yes" a couple months would have been a better idea.

www.billboard.com/articles/columns/chart-beat/6251428/lecrae-anomaly-chartsLecrae Leads Busy Week for New Album ReleasesBy Keith Caulfield | September 12, 2014 9:41 PM EDT Lecrae's new 'Anomaly' album could be one of eight debuts in the Billboard 200's top 10 next week. Rapper Lecrae is not only aiming to nab his first No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 next week with Anomaly, but his album could be one of up to eight debuts in the top 10. Industry sources forecast his album to sell around 80,000 copies by the end of the tracking week on Sept. 14. He could finish just ahead of Jhene Aiko's new Souled Out (perhaps 70,000) and Maroon 5's current No. 1, V, with maybe 70,000 as well. Earlier, Aiko's forecasted sales were slightly closer to Lecrae's, giving the appearance of a possible race to No. 1. The gap between the two has since widened. The Billboard 200's new top 10 will be revealed on Wednesday, Sept. 18. Also on tap for top 10 debuts: Ryan Adams' self-titled album (40,000), Lee Brice's I Don't Dance (40,000), Interpol's El Pintor (35,000), Dustin Lynch's Where It's At (30,000), Banks' Goddess (30,000) and Robert Plant's Lullaby and… The Ceaseless Roar (25,000). Whew! On SoundScan's Building chart (below), Lecrae, Aiko and Maroon 5 are Nos. 1-3, respectively. The Building tally is a precursor to the final Billboard 200 ranking -- reflecting the first four days (Monday through Thursday) of SoundScan's tracking week as reported by six major merchants. As for the rest of the Building chart's top 10, Brice, Adams, Lynch and Banks come in at Nos. 4-7, while Jeezy's Seen It All is No. 8. Interpol is No. 9 and Vance Joy's new Dream Your Life Away is No. 10. NIELSEN SOUNDSCAN BUILDING CHART Rank LW BB 200 Artist Title 1 NEW Lecrae Anomaly 2 NEW Jhene Aiko Souled Out 3 1 Maroon 5 V 4 NEW Lee Brice I Don’t Dance 5 NEW Ryan Adams Ryan Adams 6 NEW Dustin Lynch Where It’s At 7 NEW Banks Goddess 8 2 Jeezy Seen It All: The Autobiography 9 NEW Interpol El Pintor 10 NEW Vance Joy Dream Your Life Away The Building Chart reflects the first four days (Monday through Thursday) of SoundScan's tracking week (which ends Sunday) as reported by six major merchants: iTunes, Trans World Entertainment, Best Buy, Starbucks, Target and Anderson Merchandisers. Billboard estimates that they make up about 85% of all U.S. album sales.

Anybody else pretty sure HDD will have Jhene at #1 but billboard will have Lecrae? HDD always under counts numbers from Christian releases. While he may not be explicitly a Christian rapper on this release, he is apparently giving a strong showing at Christian retailers.
Btw, does anybody know where HDD gets their numbers from? I assume it's not soundscan

I think it's from a record label.

Currently listening to Jhene Aiko's album and listened to BANKS's 2 nights ago. Both of them great debut albums, especially BANKS's. It's a shame that she'll just barely make the top 10 so I hope Jhene gets the #1.

Is Michelle's "Say Yes" getting any airplay on any formats? I Love "Say Yes" and immediately purchased it on ITunes and have been jamming to it ever since.

Maroon 5 held up stronger than I thought. Because they're giving away the album for free with their tour tickets: Those sales shouldn't count.
