Or MHCTYN and Anywhere just weren't great singles/songs. MHCTYN was a cover that most young people had never heard of. And I think the melody of that song is just awful. Parts of Anywhere were just lyrically bad: (1) "Hey I'll bag while you scan . . . " (um, what?) (2) "Yeah, we can go AAAAAAnyyyyywhheeeerreee." (The whole song was pretty much one word held out.) (3) "We can go anywhere. Love will lead us there." (Cheesy to the BONE. And cliche. Sounds like a Twilight fan wrote it.) "My Heart Can't Tell You No" didn't do so hot on radio because it was a "dark" song following another dark song. It was just not the right time to release that single at all imo. That said, it did reasonably well at connecting with people because the video got a lot of hits for a country song and it did pretty well in streaming, too. I love the song but I think "Anywhere" should've been the second single from Stronger, because she needed something more uptempo and radio-friendly to keep her momentum up. As for the lyrics of that song, I don't find them bad at all. I'm perplexed that so many seem to hate the way she drags out the word "Anywhere," but for me it's a catchy hook and it works very well. Lyric #1 is clever to me because she's saying "Let's make this go quicker: I'll throw the stuff in the bag while you scan it so we don't waste any more time." I actually tend to think the song is pretty great lyrically; there's a lot of lyrics I really like. But to each their own. (Song quality has nothing to do with why that failed though -- it could've been bigger than MHCTYN if it had been released after ALBS and had healthy promotion, which it didn't).

Just listened to this one from All Access for the first time today because I wanted to check out The Railers song and saw this one on there too. Unfortunately I can't give praise to this one at all. I'd be shocked if it breaks Top 30, just seems very "blah" to me and I really like Sara actually, I just don't think RCA has steered her right. I know that she's been focusing on writing a lot of her own material lately and am curious to know if this is one she co-wrote; but if it is then she needs to go back to cutting great songs that were written by outside writers (then again that's my advice for just about EVERY artist in Country music these days HA, with the exception of a few)
My bad, I just noticed that it was written by outside writers. I'm actually a little surprised because Andrew Dorff and Nathan Chapman are solid writers, but to me this song isn't up to their typical hit style or status.

Ad in Country Aircheck today - maybe it's been there all week, but I just noticed it today. "BraCountry. It's for real" lol. I remember Sara using that term in an interview a while back. Cute they're using it in her promo. So happy to see they're promoting this!

Do they usually create ads like that for Sara's singles?

The bra country term was actually coined by Terri Clark if I remember correctly. But at any rate, I love the ad and I share in the excitement of seeing that RCA is trying to stir up some interest early on.

Do they usually create ads like that for Sara's singles? This is somewhat common for RCA to do for many of their artists. When "Slow Me Down" was charting in the top 25, the label consistently had "convert now" [to higher rotation] ads in the daily Aircheck emails until the song finally fell off the charts. They also had ads in recent weeks for Love and Theft, Chris Young, Jake Owen, etc. Lately though most of the ad space in Aircheck Today has been taken up by the Broken Bow Music Group, and there have been more ads for Arista and Columbia artists than for RCA. But it's not super uncommon to see RCA advertising their artists' singles as well.

That's how we may view it on here because we scrutinize these kinds of things (the GP doesn't follow "the stats" so closely). But to her she's put out an album she is very proud of, had a Top 20 hit with a single she's very proud of, and has been enjoying her life whether it's on stage during the Slow Me Down Tour or when she's doing all the family-oriented stuff she always makes time for. It's so easy to judge and say she's not had that great of a year, but I think she's at the happiest she's been so I am not surprised that she's had a great year in her eyes.

I saw that Sara's Facebook thank you post was sponsored, and then noticed that a few people were tagged in the post including Robin Roberts. That sent my antenae up and I found the press release from a few weeks ago where Robin announced her new production company. She has a Thanksgiving special and 2 reality shows in the works. My guess is that they are working together on a project, perhaps reality-based. Sara has been creating her webisodes for years highlighting the funnier parts of her life. She has personal brand recognition as a creative artist who is funny and engaging and not afraid to laugh at herself. Robin is a big country music fan and a big Sara fan so it makes sense to me. While bro country rules on the airwaves, perhaps Sara is diversifying her brand. She is also going to be on the ABC show Nashville. Not sure if she is performing but she said she was playing "herself". The camera loves her so if this is the direction she is taking it is pretty astute.

I found nothing about it specifically when I searched online to verify it, but someone edited her Wikipedia page recently to put that she'd be singing "Put My Heart Down" on the show as a duet with someone.

The new one "If It's Love" is so dang catchy. I'll say, it's uber-drama, but the music is actually much better than I'd have ever thought it'd be...also seeing Charles "Chip" Esten is cool, because I used to love seeing him guest on Whose Line is it Anyway?

While that would be awesome, Robin Roberts & co. could just be tagged in that status because they were in the video. Maybe RCA sponsored it for additional promotion of PMHD.

I thought about that as well, maybe in the next few weeks she'll stay consistent with adds instead of one big week upfront? The coming weeks look weaker in terms of singles going for adds so I'll hold out some hope but I won't hold my breath.

And cliche. Sounds like a Twilight fan wrote it.) So, regardless of what's happened historically, I'm excited about PMHD. The lyrics are strong and meaningful, it has a catchy melody, and Sara sings it wonderfully! Hopefully no one at Country radio--since this apparently happens--will be like, "OMG. Sara hasn't had a single out at radio in a while. So that means I can't play this new song because that would just be too difficult and my brain would fall out." Good songs peak low all the time. Sara's long break between singles IMO, is just too much to overcome here. There's also other factors like competition that you have to take into account, especially with a female artist which country radio has been very picky and choosy lately about who's female singles to break through. I'm certainly not saying that "Put My Heart Down" can't go at least top 20 as I do think it was the best radio friendly option, but there's plenty of plausible reasons to be pessimistic. So far my pessimism is justified from the 16 total adds on "Put My Heart Down's" impact day.

This is New & Active again on Billboard tonight with 311k in total audience, but that's only up 70k from last week when this song was also listed in New & Active.
PMHD only got 2 more adds on Mediabase today. At this rate, the song will be lucky to even crack the top 60. Unless we see some substantial improvements in the next couple of weeks, I'm thinking that a chart run similar to "Anywhere" will be the best this one can do.

I'm thinking the same thing, which is so frustrating because I think it would've done something had it been released six months ago when Sara needed a new single.
At this rate though, I doubt it does crack the top 60. I don't even know what I think she should do at this point. She made a fairly strong album with radio ready material, so that wasn't the problem. Radio even got on board with the first single, so interest was there, at least initially. This was a major case of the promo really dropping the ball and killing the momentum.

You have more to blame than that. You have country radio not playing women. Especially women who aren't in their 20s. You have Sara releasing decent material, but nothing spectacular. And as for me, while I still enjoy her music, I grew tired of her political rants and don't care for her much as a person. That last one is probably not a big reason she isn't as successful anymore, but it's why she lost me as a fan.

According to Sara's Facebook she's on the set for the music video for "Put My Heart Down" she looks BEAUTIFUL. Hopefully between the music video & Nashville appearance the song will get a good start.
