Music video is out!
So not only does this song sound just like "Birthday" but its video has the same concept. Katy Perry surprised people at their birthday parties, and Maroon 5 surprises people at their weddings.

I really liked the video, it's what they needed after the goresexual video of Animals.
And no, this is not like Katy's Birthday at all. I love Katy's videos, but Birthday was like a bad joke

The video just seems so staged and fake. It was kinda cute, but not the direction I was hoping for the video. It's on par with the Birthday video for me in that it's good for one or two views and that's it.

The video's so corny. Also, I liked this for a minute, but it gets really grating. Something about the chorus is really off.

I hate the video. At least Katy's didn't seem so staged. There's no way you'd crash a wedding like that.

#34 on iTunes
As much as I love "It Was Always You", it feels a little too similar to "Animals" to be an interesting follow up single. The "beat-driven dance tune backed by guitars" vibe is heavy in both songs. I think they just wanted to show off something different for a change.
"Sugar" is completely different from pretty much anything Maroon 5 has ever released as a single, both in terms of sound and theme. A straightforward, upbeat, HAPPY, love song. Not the usual, "love/hate/it's complicated" song that they release as singles 99% of the time.
Plus, after the dark "Animals" video, they probably wanted to lighten things up.

The video is a bit cheesy, but it isn't all that bad. However, I did LOL at certain parts in the video because of the people's (staged?) reactions.

This really might be my least favorite M5 single ever. I might be forgetting one, but man this is boring and lifeless. However, I see it being a hit and hopefully giving enough momentum to the much better songs sitting on the cd.

Love this. Probably my favorite single so far this era and my favorite single from them since One More Night.

Definitely, but it's already zoomed to #9(!) on iTunes. Clearly, it has resonated with ppl. M5 executed the concept better than Katy, who should've released either: five separate videos from each party or a much shorter version. This is certainly an nice contrast to Animals, which I thought was great.

Yeah, this song is way better than "Birthday", his voice just works better, and the lyrics are better!

Blargh. This really does sound a lot like warmed up "Birthday" leftovers and that video is so self-indulgent and fake.

I don't remember the last time a song skyrocketed from out of the top 100 to the top 5, purely off the release of a video (it is just the video, right?)

I'm surprised too. Especially since the video wasn't even good or special.

They honestly lost my support last era, but they have successfully regained it this time. The material from the two eras seem so interconnected and similar to me that all of the singles could easily be from the same album imo. There's not exactly a drastic (or even minor) musical departure here.

I'm surprised too. Especially since the video wasn't even good or special. I agree, i like the video, it has a feel good vibe (totally necessary after the creepiness of Animals) but it's not Bad Romance or Chandelier, nothing to keep people talking, so that big jump in the sales is a surprise (because even the song is getting good updates on pop and hot ac are not big enough to justifie such jump in sales)

The only thing that differs is that "Birthday" (the song) makes me want to puke, but this somehow doesn't. Weird.

I've seen a reference to the video and a bunch of different sites like USAT, TVGuide, Rolling Stone, Huffington Post, CNN, Yahoo, etc. It's literally everywhere.

This isn't bad, but my God, I don't think I've ever heard Adam's voice sound more grating than it does on this chorus. Yikes.

Top 3 on iTunes already? And 200+ updates? Color me pleasantly surprised. This is one of my faves on the album so the smashing is alright by me. I'm ambivalent about the video, but it seems to be working wonders. Wow.

I like the song and video, but it doesn't remind me of "Birthday", it reminds me of "Last Friday Night".
