By that i mean non polarizing. You know he goes back and forth between songs that are risky and safe. This is as safe as it gets. Reminds me of something Chesney would record. Yes, Chesney might've recorded it but Church has also recorded songs like this in the past ("I Love Your Love The Most" "Drink In My Hand" and obviously "Springsteen"). yes... that is what is meant by "safe" when I saying going "back and forth" between safe and risky.

Here's the first video I've seen of Talladega from the new tour that has pretty good sound quality. You can really tell the crowd is enthusiastic about this one. And here's a 26 second time-lapse video of them setting up the new stage for the Outsiders world tour. Pretty cool.

Up to #22 in just its 5th chart week. "Cold One" only peaked at #20, and it looks like "Talladega" could out-peak that already next week. I think at least one top 10 song will go recurrent (and maybe two), and Eric is also within striking distance of Rascal Flatts, David Nail, and Chase Bryant. He probably won't pass all of them but I think he can move ahead of 1-2 from that little group.
I fully expect this to be a big #1 hit when all is said and done (I never had any doubts though, not even after "Cold One" barely scraped the top 20).

Any word on if and/or when we will get a music video for this? I bet it would be great.

One quick general note.
If you haven't seen the Outsiders tour featuring Eric Church, Dwight Yoakam and tonight in Memphis Brandy Clark. GO SEE IT! Fantastic tour top to bottom. I've seen Eric perform numerous times, bu t he really is bigger and better than ever before. For a guy a like me ( darn pun), it was so cool to see the progression since I followed Eric way back when he performed at Southaven, MS Snowden Grove Amphitheater all the way to tonight making his Fedex Forum debut. A very fun experience overall.
Also for those that haven't seen Dwight live, it may take a couple songs getting used too , but his show was great as well from songs performed all the way to his famous footwork dancin' along that stage.

^^^ I second that. I've seen Chesney/Luke Bryan/Aldean/Blake Shelton all in concert....not one of them is as entertaining/explosive as Eric Church is live. He's come a long, long way. I was never really a fan until the "Carolina" album, and ever since, he just keeps releasing tremendous material.

"Talladega" has already matched the #19 peak of "Cold One" on MB this week. It has increased 1163 spins and over 10 million in audience over the past two weeks (though it's clear that the house cleaning right now is benefiting many songs right now, especially in this part of the chart). I fully expect this to get Eric back to the top, and it should move up to #16 next week after leaping Chase Bryant and David, and the free falling Brantley, as well as Chase Rice going recurrent.
This one is also a huge favorite of my Dad who told me last week that this is his favorite Eric single since "Sinners Like Me". He also said that Eric is one of the best at nostalgia songs and I concur.

Nostalgia songs are always a favourite theme of mine, and Eric does it so well on this song. That's probably why it's my favourite of his since "Springsteen", which also has that theme.

Great music video. I really hope this song can get multiple weeks at #1, it deserves it.

Nice video. I liked the concept a lot and it reminded me of Kacey's "Merry Go 'Round" video with all the vintage clips.

Great video-emotional without being sappy, IMO. Also, I like Eric's outfit

You know this song was kinda "meh" for me when it first came out. The more i listen to it however, the more i love it. A great nostalgia song. I'm happy this is top 10 and No.1 bound. The video to this also heightens my love for it

On the rolling chart, Eric Church has a four spin lead over Carrie Underwood. However, she is at #4 while he is at #5.

Eric is very hit or miss for me and this is definitely a song that I enjoy. I feel like there is this song, Springsteen and Give Me Back My Hometown which are all great songs. On the other hand there is The Outsiders and Cold One which are horrible and annoying to me. I know that he has a lot of other songs too and I could list all of them as either Great. or horrible

I am admittedly not the biggest Eric Church fan, but this song is nice! I could see this growing on me some more :)

Wonder what they roll with after this has peaked. If I was a betting man, I'd guess this (in no order)
Roller Coaster Ride Broke Record Wrecking Ball, Man Who Was Gonna Die Young or Dark Side

I think A Man Who Was Gonna Die Young or Like A Wrecking Ball would be the two best choices for radio. I personally love the ladder, it's got a real nice easy going feel to it. I fear that A Man Who Was Gonna Die Young would just be too slow for radio, and would probably see a similar fate as What We Ain't Got is having right now. I think they should push Talladega long and hard because i don't see any other singles coming anywhere near it's position on the charts.

Really glad to see this reaching near the top of the charts by now. Hopefully there'll be some room for Eric to get another #1 this era with this song.
I also find it surprising that it's the first single that I at least moderately enjoy from The Outsiders. From my perspective, the title track and "Cold One" were pretty polarizing and got old fast while "Give Me Back My Hometown" is, has been, and always will be, somewhat underwhelming, but I heard it everywhere I went, nonetheless.

I would love to see Devil Devil get released. It sounds like a radio smash. Rollercoaster Ride has to much going on kind of like Cold One.

How hard is EMI willing to get Talladega to #1 now that the duet with Keith Urban has been released?

What are the chances of Eric Church hitting the Top 40 or even top 30 with this song? 'Cuz this is the one of the best country songs I've heard since I started to listen to country music.
