I'm a little surprised that radio warmed up so well to "Give Me Back My Hometown", after what happened with "The Outsiders" (getting an hourly airplay deal for a very 'uncountry' lead single that ended not being promoted any further by the label after a few weeks). I can't see them giving him two passes during this album cycle, no matter how good the material is. Meaning, I doubt a sixth single would be given much of a shot if "The Joint" is the fifth single, and stalls out in the 40s or ow 30s.

I understand the notion that Eric doesn't really care about radio success and likes to play risky when it comes to some of the songs he's gotten to release, but this would be pretty pointless sending "The Joint" to radio. Sending radio-friendly fare to country radio not only gives you and your label some financial and "good will with radio" benefit, but it allows you to stay relevant on radio which helps out the fans who support you and want Eric to see success for many years to come. "The Joint" would only get some controversial buzz from the type of song it is and that's about it. I can't see that as a song radio would be fine playing in even medium rotation and I think there's no shot it would get Top 30.
"Roller Coaster Ride" is the best option here IMO, followed by "Like A Wrecking Ball".

"Talladega" is now #1 on the Indicator chart, replacing "Til It's Gone" and leaping over "Something In The Water", which holds at #2.

We have a new #1 on Mediabase: 2 1 ERIC CHURCH Talladega 7726 7476 250 56.015 Ya, but will it stay #1 now til Sunday to be officially #1??? I wouldn't declare this #1 just yet as Carrie is getting a push this week and had the better gain and spins today. Also Eric is not tracking at #1 on Billboard's RTT as Luke is now tracking with "I See You". Too early to say we have a new #1.

Think "This Is How We Roll" in 2014.

Even though Eric is #1 on Mediabase right now, I'm thinking Carrie will come out on top on Sunday. And even though Luke is tracking #1 on Billboard right now, I'm thinking that Eric will come out on top of Monday's Billboard chart.
I think Carrie will peak at #3 BB/#1 MB. Eric could conceivably get 2 weeks at #1 on Billboard (Monday the 26th and Monday the 2nd) and 1 week at #1 on Mediabase (Sunday the 1st) before Luke Bryan takes over; OR, Eric might only get 1 week on each chart, likely #1 on BB on Monday the 26th and #1 on MB on Sunday the 1st before Luke takes over the Billboard #1 spot on Monday the 2nd.

LOL. Clearly they don't care how the next single fares on radio, then. Nothing against "The Joint," but on an album full of non radio-friendly songs, "The Joint" is probably the least radio-friendly. Sometimes when I'm listening to the album, I wonder why it stopped all of a sudden and then realize it's just this song - it's so quiet. It has no chance of doing anything on radio, regardless of what genre it's sent to. I agree with tim - releasing "The Joint" wouldn't be brave or risk-taking. It would just be stupid. I'll hold off on fully believing this until there's more official confirmation, though.

Broadway re-tweeted the following:
Perhaps a hint that Eric's label won't care when "The Joint" bombs, simply because he's also on "Raise 'Em Up"?
I still think it's a dumb move though, and I'm one of the ones who loves "The Joint".

^It would make sense if Raise Em Up was on both artist's albums, or was a bonus track on The Outsiders, but the success of that song won't drive Eric's album sales. Release The Joint as a 6th or 7th single, but not coming off a single that just restored your momentum.

Nah...wrecking ball has been front runner to be next for a long time. The joint talk is just internet chatter, I think.

I mean, yeah I guess there technically is since a song can get to #1 on the rolling chart during the week, but if it doesn't end there on Sunday evening, it's not called a #1. Hope that makes sense. Lol

Lol Reminds of 2012 when Gloriana made it to #1 for a day or 2 with "Kissed You (Good Night)" but got knocked off from it too soon to be declared a #1 but it did peak at #2 for them.

All I will say is that I am looking on various radio stations and seeing a LOT of airplay today for Carrie and Eric together, not as much for Luke so the battle is on. I am requesting like crazy for Carrie and hoping she peaks at #1 on both charts. Still having some hope.

Plus, her last BB #1 was in 2012. Church and Bryan had #1s last year. 'Bout time Underwood has a BB #1.

2 1 ERIC CHURCH Talladega 7741 7532 209 56.431 4 2 CARRIE UNDERWOOD Something In The Water 7775 7271 504 54.317
Looks like Underwood will get the MB #1. In fact, she is ahead of Church in spins already. Sorry, Eric Church.

It's looking promising that there will be a split on charts this week. Carrie will get the #1 on MB and Eric will get BB. Then the next week, Carrie will drop hard because of the push, Eric will get his week at #1 on MB, but Luke will begin his first of 2 weeks on BB, because he is gaining audience fast. That' sets FGL up nicely to get to #1 on both charts with Sun Daze.

With Talladega moving into the pole position on the airplay chart this week, Eric Church needs one more #1 hit to make it on the list of those artists with the most #1s. He would be the 124th artist to do so.

Talladega Unless you don't count The Only Way I Know (w/ Jason Aldean and Luke Bryan) then Eric seems eligible

So, Eric Church WILL be added today after chart highlights come out this afternoon. Thanks for catching that.

"#1 and holding strong"
Going for a second week at the top? I think it's possible but if this was the case, I don't see why Arista wouldn't keep pushing Something in the Water. They have clearly already given up on it, but regardless I would like to see more songs get multiple weeks at the top, as opposed to the merry-go-round at the end of 2014.

The "#1 and holding strong" ads don't make sense to me, at all. Luke Bryan is less than 1 million behind on Billboard, a gap that could be made up (if Eric starts falling) in a single day. And Eric is at almost 50 million in audience, which is one of the biggest weekly audience sums we've ever seen. A few songs have hit 50 million in the last 16 months, but that's it. So I would think that Eric has reached the ceiling, and even if he still had some room to grow, Luke Bryan is so close to him that the natural course of things would almost certainly have "I See You" taking over at #1 next week.
The only thing I can think of here is that, with sales, streams, and airplay so close together between Eric, Carrie, and Luke, perhaps EMI Nashville feels like they have a chance to get "Talladega" to #1 on Hot Country Songs as well?

With Sun Daze backing off a bit this week, it appears that the next two weeks could be spread out between Talladega and I See You. I think one of them will get 2 weeks at #1, and I'd be willing to go with the former because of the already high airplay levels achieved by Talladega. It'll be curious to see a) the audience and spins update tomorrow for Talladega and b) How Sun Daze monitors it's increases this week. I'm sure Fla Ga Line don't want to get blocked by Luke again from achieving the #1.
