Honestly, Capitol may need to go 5 singles deep for "Riser" to have a shot as a single. I do know DIERKS wants it as a single but I definitely see the label wanting "Five" or "Sounds Of Summer" being released to follow-up "Say You Do." I don't see how "Riser" gets released following up the mid-tempo ballad as radio will see it as two ballads in a row. That being said, "Here On Earth" has a bigger chance cause it has more of that uptempo feel to it (both "Here On Earth" and "Riser" do have a sort of U2-like vibe to the instrumentation). I agree with Matt, I just don't see another slow song following Say You Do. Five would without question be my pick in that case, but Sounds of Summer would be just fine as well (though quality wise it isn't on par with the first 4 singles of the album). Here On Earth is fantastic, but even in the best placement I just don't see it catching on at radio - too deep for modern radio (sadly). The time to release Riser would've been in place of Say You Do, I'm just not sure there's room for it as a single now.

This is my favorite song on the radio right now, and by a good bit over anything else. I'm loving it and glad it was chosen as a single.

According to his tour manager (@tmtomaddison) he is singing something they've never done on TV tonight on Letterman. So, it's also not Riser.

Yeah, I was just coming to say that apparently Tom forgot they performed Riser last year on the View. Oh well.

I'm not reading too much into it. I think it has more to do with the Grammy's than anything. :(

Anyone knows who does the female backing vocals at the end of the song?

so, I have been watching this wonderful song slowly make it's way up the charts... as i'm no expert, can any of the chart-watchers weigh in on where this is likely to peak? is Dierks looking at a 3rd consecutive (and deserved) #1?

I do love the album Took me from indifference to his music to putting him at the top of my 'next to see live' list. As far as chart position; I'll guess #1. I hear this a lot on my station, which is usually a good predictor, since they are a 'safe' station in general- i.e. 'status quo'.

He's my favorite live act (perhaps it's bias, but he is REALLY AWESOME LIVE). So much energy. Anyway, I am a little wary of saying this will go to #1, but right now I think this has a better shot at it than 'Drinking Class'. It has a bit of a cushion over 'Raise 'em Up' and they're both gaining similarly now that REU has settled in. I would love to see this hit #1, obviously, as my favorite song on the album. Riser is still getting unsolicited airplay at a handful of stations, and Dierks played a benefit last night in Nashville and Riser was back in the set list. I literally have everything crossed that Riser will be the next/final single from the album, even if it's not "safe" for the time of year. Screw safe! Dierks has been known to take risks before, and I'd love to see one taken so Riser gets its time in the spotlight.

To me, right now it seems this has at least a 90% chance of going to #1. The song just behind this is "Raise 'Em Up," another Capitol Nashville song, so Dierks has nothing to worry about there. All the big hits from Cole Swindell, ZBB, and Sam Hunt will be finished by the time this gets to top 5 airplay levels, and the weaker hits from Darius Rucker, Chris Young, and Lee Brice are all already way too high to last long enough to be still around when Dierks gets "up there." There's actually a large gap both right in front of this and just behind "A Guy Walks into a Bar," so this will enjoy some really good timing. The only scenario I can imagine where this misses #1 is if Capitol tries to hold back "Raise 'Em Up" and ends up getting both this and the Keith/Eric duet blocked by "A Guy Walks into a Bar." (Same situation as last summer when "Yeah" blocked two Sony songs.)

Riser, the CD could go gold if a fifth single would be released later this year. 309,000 copies have been sold thus far. I know Say You Do has been on the chart for half a year.

Say You Do did not feel like such a big hit, but I think that, thanks to the relative weakness of the top 10 right now, Dierks probably has a chance at a #1 here. I mean, by the time SYD gets closer to the penthouse both ZBB and Sam Hunt will be on the way down, with Chris Young and Darius long gone by then. I don't see Lee Brice as a threat and the closest pursuer Keith/Church is 4 mil behind and promoted by Capitol too.

This is closing in on Lee Brice's "Drinking Class" quickly. It'll be great if Lee Brice peaks in the top 5 and maybe this ends up with two weeks at #1 on at least Billboard, though I'm not quite sure how likely that is yet. Either way, this is definitely looking like it could pass up the Lee Brice song in the next one to two weeks, which I wasn't quite expecting.
I really hope "Five" is the next single. That is a definite smash, while "Riser," despite charting earlier this year from unsolicited airplay on a couple of stations, sounds like it could flame out below the top 10.

So, I was driving up to northern Arizona today, and once I got into the mountains I lost the stations from Phoenix. So I started scanning through to find another country station, and lo and behold, a station from Payson was playing "Five". I literally freaked out. It was the last thing I was expecting to hear.
Dierks is from Phoenix so maybe that's why (and Payson is a little less than 80 miles out), but it was so cool. And the next few songs on that station were all really good ones: Rodney Crowell's "Lovin' All Night", Kathy Mattea's "Listen To The Radio" (crazy that they picked this one; it only peaked at #64 on Billboard, and it's not like Kathy didn't have a bunch of other big hits in the late 80's/early 90's for that station to pick from), Josh Turner's "Would You Go With Me", Lee Ann Womack's "Send It On Down", Brad Paisley's "I'm Gonna Miss Her", Alan Jackson's "Gone Country", and Eric Paslay's "She Don't Love You".
I didn't listen to the end of Paslay's song because it got all static-y and I lost that station too, but man, that was a good stretch of songs.

Don Williams had a song out called Listen To The Radio (#3 in 1982). Kathy Mattea's first top ten was Love At The Five And Dime (#3 in 1986). Williams sang back up on that one. Can you say full circle? For those wanting to hear some Mattea, here it is:

He, I thought it was kinda funny that "Say You Do" increased 184 spins and leaped "Take Your Time" (+6 spins) for #1 on the Indicator Chart.

I'm actually a little bit worried that he's performing "Riser" on the ACM's, simply because it makes me think Dierks was told by Capitol that they wouldn't be able to commit to "Riser" as a radio single, thus leading Dierks to lobby to perform it at the ACM's. Or maybe I'm over-thinking it, and this is an endorsement of "Riser" as the next single.

I still have a feeling "Sounds Of Summer" is the next single or even "Five", and this is just a one off for "Riser", just for some time in the spotlight.
